00:00What's up, I'm Kian, I'm at Reddit, I record all this, I'm about to select my top 5 albums that I don't have on vinyl yet. Let's go!
00:11Gorillaz, their first project. Honestly, I feel like every time I do anything like this, where it's talking about my favourite albums, I always grab a Gorillaz album because they're in my top 3 favourite bands ever.
00:22They're one of the first bands I was ever introduced to as a kid, and I think the thing I always say about them to people is I find them so hard to define as an act.
00:33They've dabbled in hip hop to techno to rock, and I feel like some of my favourite bands are people that kind of genre blend, and I feel like these guys are one of the original people who were just able to take stuff from everywhere and make their own thing.
00:48So, Rainbow is my Radiohead. Again, I kind of could have picked any Radiohead album just because their discography is pretty crazy and they have so many classic albums, but one of my favourite Radiohead songs is on this album, House of Cards.
01:02I remember my older sister was the one that played me that song for the first time, and I feel like I really fell in love with it after she played it to me.
01:12Generally, this album, when I listen to it from start to finish, feels like a bit of a journey, and I love an album when it feels like it can kind of take you somewhere, so yeah, Rainbow is my Radiohead.
01:23Surfer Rosa by the Pixies. Obviously, classic songs on this record, whereas My Mind is obviously a banger. It's been in so many places, whether it's ads, movies, playlists, it's just a good song.
01:38It's one that I feel like I don't really get to keep hearing, so again, Pixies, various records of theirs had songs that I wanted to lean into and try to find the sound for the record. They're generally one of my favourite bands.
01:53So, Disintegration by The Cure. In particular, The Cure was a big reference for making my album, particularly in a lot of the more drum machine style drums and bringing that punk element into some of the stuff.
02:08So, it's super cool. I feel like they really created their own sound. This album in particular, I feel like it was a really good fusion of a bunch of their sounds, and they had kind of been working on their early projects, so yeah, The Cure, Disintegration.
02:23We have Rewind Fire by The Strokes. A couple songs on this album that I actually bonded with some good friends over, just talking about how we all liked these songs. So, 1251 by Atelier. These songs, I never really fully listened to The Strokes a lot, and then I think two years ago, I kind of dived into their discography, and this album in particular was the one I feel like I connected with the most, sonically and just lyrically.
02:51I think one thing I love is their sound is so raw, but also their songs are really well written. Yeah, love it.
