00:00This isn't usually a very busy place.
00:06It's nice to see you visiting your father.
00:09Especially today.
00:12Until that day, help us to honor Samantha by living with purpose and hope.
00:18May we face each day leaning on your strength and love
00:22as you faithfully sustained Samantha all the years of her life.
00:26Comfort us with memories of her vibrant spirit.
00:30Inspire us through the legacy she left.
00:33We place her spirit in your hands.
00:36Thank you that neither death nor life can separate us from your great love.
00:42We look forward with longing to the day we are together again.
00:46Amen.
00:49I now invite you to share a memory or remarks on our beloved Samantha McCall.
00:54I can't believe he actually showed up.
01:00Jason needs to be here.
01:04Thank you all for being here today to honor my sister Sam.
01:30It was always the four of us.
01:53My mom, me, Christina, and Sam.
01:59The Davis girls turned Davis women.
02:02A bona fide force to be reckoned with.
02:05Individually, of course, but especially together.
02:11We could certainly make noise, as I'm sure that everyone in this church can attest to.
02:18But of the four of us, Sam leaned more towards quiet.
02:24She was patient, open, the best listener.
02:30No interruptions, never any judgment.
02:34When I was prepping for my first trial as an official lawyer, it was Sam that I practiced with.
02:39I was too scared to go to my mom.
02:42I think that Sam heard that opening statement 35 times at minimum.
02:49She told me to slow down, make eye contact, and take up space.
02:57Something that Sam was really good at.
03:00I mean, she might have been small in stature, but why could she command a room?
03:05And her advice, I mean, always spot on.
03:09And she only gave it if you asked for it.
03:13Sam was really good about trusting people to find their own way.
03:17Probably because growing up she needed to find hers.
03:23I can't put it into words how much I will miss my sister.
03:32That fourth set of arms, bringing it in for a Davis girls hug.
03:37It'll just be three sets of arms now.
03:40But I know in my heart that Sam is still with us.
03:45Holding us.
03:47Supporting us.
03:50Loving us.
03:52And she always will be.
03:56We will always be Davis women.
04:00No matter what.
04:15Molly was so right.
04:18When it came to support, she offered it in spades to everyone.
04:26And no one needed it more than me.
04:29I think everyone here can agree that I have a special knack for getting myself into trouble.
04:36But when I did, Sam was always there.
04:40She arrived to my rescue.
04:43And she would get me back on my feet, tell me I was strong, I was capable.
04:50And she'd also remind me she was right there in case I needed her.
04:54Just in case.
04:56My own personal safety net, really.
05:01And when the dust would settle from whatever chaos I had gotten myself into most recently,
05:09the really special thing about Sam is she would never judge you.
05:15And she was like that with everybody.
05:18She believed in second chances.
05:22And she taught me, no matter how big you mess up, even if it was in a spectacular fashion,
05:30that you could always pick yourself up and just keep going.
05:34That you could do better, that you could be better, anytime you wanted to.
05:40You are not your mistakes. That's what she always used to say to me.
05:45Sam was...
05:47She's just the best.
05:51The ultimate big sister.
05:54The protector.
05:56The trailblazer.
05:59Yeah, I...
06:01I will love and miss her forever.
06:08Mom, where's Lucas?
06:11I don't know.
06:14My brother must be feeling awfully popular right now.
06:19This is my first time visiting his grave since being back in Port Charles.
06:24I'm sure he appreciates it.
06:27Julian may not have always been a good man.
06:30He made mistakes.
06:32Terrible, life-altering mistakes.
06:35But one thing I know for certain.
06:38He loved you.
06:41He loved you.
06:43And Sam and Leo, his children meant the world to him.
06:47I believe that.
06:49I wish I could honor him by attending his daughter's funeral today.
06:53It's best you're not there.
06:55No, I know. I know, of course.
06:58Out of respect for Sam's family, I chose to stay away.
07:03That's my reason for not being at the church today.
07:08What's yours?
07:11Samantha McCall was one of the first people to...
07:15ever befriend me.
07:17And I mean that quite literally.
07:22When I was younger, I related to fantasy and computers
07:28better than I did people.
07:31But as fate would have it,
07:33events led me to meet Sam,
07:36and through her, my dear friend Jason.
07:42At that time, the hierarchy, the pecking order of life
07:47was such that tech nerds were decidedly at the bottom,
07:54and cool chicks that rode motorcycles in scaled buildings
07:59were at the very top.
08:01And that was Sam. Cool to the core.
08:05But she never used that status.
08:10I'm not certain she ever knew she had it.
08:14Because Sam took people as they were.
08:20She just took me as I was.
08:24Jekyll appreciates Fair Samantha's efforts,
08:27but none of her praise made even a dent with Maximista.
08:30I think I should put you on a really good workout,
08:32and we'll build you up a little bit,
08:33and it'll make all the difference in the world.
08:35You just put yourself in my hands, Spinelli.
08:38We are gonna build those muscles,
08:39and we will certainly have fun doing it.
08:44Sam offered me genuine friendship and respect.
08:50I so treasured that, and all that came with it.
08:55Most notably, the confidence
09:00to fall in love with the woman of my dreams.
09:03I was never able to fully express my gratitude
09:06to her for that.
09:10But my fervent hope is that whenever she saw
09:12Maxi and me together, she knew.
09:19Fair Samantha, my dear friend,
09:25you will forever be missed.
09:34Sam was strong, and a fighter.
09:40Boy, could she pack a punch.
09:43Figuratively speaking, of course.
09:45You're the one leaving here a loser.
09:47You lost Jax, you lost Sonny,
09:50and now you lost Jason.
09:52But they're all three still in my life.
09:54You're the footnote, so hit the road, Sam.
09:58Don't come back.
09:59I don't have a problem with that.
10:01But before I go...
10:04When life knocked Sam down, she always came back swinging.
10:09And I really admired that about Sam.
10:12I don't know if I told her that.
10:14I hope so.
10:16Sam and I had a complicated relationship,
10:18and it took a while for us to become friends.
10:22But even when we were on opposite sides,
10:25I respected her.
10:27And the thing that impressed me the most about Sam
10:31was how she loved with her whole heart.
10:34Every ounce of it.
10:36Her sisters, her mom.
10:40Her partner.
10:42And most importantly, her children.
10:45Your mom was amazing, and she was strong.
10:49And I don't know if anyone's told you lately, but so are you.
10:54You carry that strength that she gave you,
10:57and she'll always be with you.
11:01I was at the church this morning before the service.
11:05Danny came in.
11:07So early.
11:09I think he wanted some time alone before the funeral.
11:13Poor kid. Losing his mom.
11:17When he saw me, he got really upset.
11:20Why?
11:22Danny thinks it's my fault his mom is dead.
11:25Is it?
11:28Like Carly, Sam and I had our highs and lows.
11:33Back in the day, they were mostly lows.
11:37Mostly lows?
11:39Why are two thugs terrorizing me and my boys in the park?
11:42They pulled a gun on us.
11:44Anything could have happened, but you don't care.
11:46As long as Jason doesn't get to be with Jake.
11:49What?
11:51You didn't think Jason would tell me?
11:53He trusts me.
11:55And he knows what kind of trash you are.
11:57Well, I guess that's a fair trade.
12:00You got Jason's kid, and I got your husband.
12:07We clashed. Almost on instinct.
12:11We hurt each other a lot.
12:14But I can honestly say that I don't regret any of it,
12:18because it made the place we got to that much sweeter.
12:23And it taught me a lesson.
12:25One that I hope to pass on to my own boys.
12:29And that's if you're not getting along with someone for whatever reason,
12:34maybe it's because you just don't understand them.
12:38Maybe you should look deeper.
12:41That's what Sam and I did, and we ultimately ended up respecting each other.
12:47We went from being bitter rivals
12:51to co-parents raising our children,
12:54to friends.
12:56And I'm proud of that friendship.
13:00I wish we could continue growing together as women and mothers,
13:08but I hope you know I will always be grateful for where we landed.
13:14Thanks, Sam, for all of it.
13:21I've known Sam for a long time.
13:25She, uh, she was always a good friend to me.
13:31Called it like it was.
13:35I like that.
13:38You were never unsure where you stood with her.
13:44I knew she was fun and fearless,
13:48but what I didn't know was how heroic she was.
13:53My sister Lulu was dying,
13:56and only a liver transplant could save her.
14:00My brother and I both hoped that, uh, that we could help,
14:04but that didn't work out.
14:09Lulu was running out of time.
14:13You see, the thing is, we needed a miracle.
14:18And...
14:21Enter Sam.
14:23It was when she found out that she could give my sister a fighting chance,
14:28she didn't hesitate.
14:31She agreed to donate right then and there.
14:34And then she did.
14:37Sam McCall saved Lulu.
14:43She saved her life.
14:47And I hate that in the process,
14:51she lost hers.
14:55I can't tell you why Sam was taken from us,
14:59but I can tell you this.
15:02My family will forever be in her debt.
15:08Uh, hey, everybody.
15:12I hit a bit of a rough patch a few years ago.
15:19It was a pretty dark time in my life.
15:23I couldn't really see a way out of it.
15:26It was a challenge, really, to put one foot in front of the other every day.
15:30And then Sam showed up.
15:34And then Sam showed up.
15:37She didn't step in because anyone told her to or anything like that, as far as I know.
15:42She just did it because she saw that I was, uh, I was really struggling.
15:47And she wanted to help me.
15:50She told me I could rebuild my life.
15:54What I couldn't do was take all the bad things that had happened and use that to give up.
16:01She said, what you have to do is you got to take all that stuff
16:04and you got to use it to propel yourself forward, to keep going.
16:09So that's what I did.
16:12Honestly, I don't know.
16:15I don't know where I'd be today without Sam.
16:18I'm, uh, I'm admittedly a little slow on the uptakes.
16:22I don't know whether it changed from friends to something more, but it did.
16:27It did. And ultimately, uh, Sam and I, we began to fall in love.
16:35You said that we would know when the time was right.
16:38Don't you agree?
16:40I think that we need to control our own fate and decide for ourselves.
16:47Okay.
16:49Let's do it.
16:50Okay, well, are you sure?
16:52About moving in?
16:53Yeah.
16:54Yes.
16:55Yeah?
16:57We were in love and we threw our beautiful kids together
17:00and made this mashup of a family and a home.
17:04Sam was the best mom.
17:09And she was the most incredibly supportive partner.
17:19But she also happened to be the most badass, hard-nosed, in-your-face outfielder
17:24the PCPD softball team had ever seen.
17:27She gave me and, uh, and our children their absolute best.
17:33Always.
17:35Always honest.
17:37And always fair.
17:40And as Christina said, she was big on second chances.
17:45And she was my...
17:48I wanted you to be my third, fourth, and fifth,
17:51but I know you'd tell me to just be grateful for what we had,
17:54so that's what I'm going to try and do.
17:57I, uh, I've become a better man because of Sam,
18:02for loving her and being loved by her.
18:06So I'm going to do what she told me to do in the beginning
18:09and take everything that's happened and, uh, keep going.
18:18I love you guys.
18:25You always have my heart.
18:28And I love you.
18:33I could be responsible for Sam's death.
18:36We won't know for sure until we get the autopsy results.
18:39Do you think it'll make a difference?
18:41What do you mean?
18:43I'm just wondering if, no matter what's in the report,
18:46you'll still carry a sense of guilt.
18:49I'll always wonder what more I could have done for my sister.
18:55And I think Danny will too.
18:58Scout will access Dante, anyone who loved her.
19:02That's quite a burden.
19:04I can carry it.
19:06Should you have to?
19:09I performed surgery.
19:11I take the hit.
19:13You know, Lucas,
19:15I happen to know a little something about guilt myself.
19:20I guess it runs in the family.
19:23Maybe you ought to consider changing your last name to Jerome.
19:27Sam was my stepmom.
19:30Not that I ever called her that. She was always just Sam to me.
19:35But she was also a mom to me.
19:38I know that because I remember what it feels like to have a mom.
19:42Someone who understands you, who listens to you,
19:47who gets annoyed when you leave your wet towels on the floor,
19:51who brings you popsicles when you're sick with a sore throat.
19:55A mom, she treats you differently not because you share DNA,
20:01because she thinks you're special.
20:05That was Sam.
20:09We had our own handshake.
20:11I know you said it was just for us,
20:14but I hope you don't mind if I teach it to Dante and Scout too,
20:18before I forget it.
20:21I don't want to forget...
20:24anything.
20:27Sam gave me a lot,
20:29but by far the best thing that she gave me was my brother and sister.
20:34Dad and I got a family when we really needed one.
20:38And even though Sam and my dad never got to make it official,
20:43that's what we'll always be.
20:46A family.
20:50She is my sister, and she's missing.
20:54You saved her more than once. I know you'll save her again.
20:59You took all of me.
21:01I have access to everyone you love.
21:04What happens next is on you.
21:06I'm coming for you.
21:07And you will pay for all the pain you caused.
21:10I'll be waiting.
21:16We have 24 hours to charge him.
21:18So you better get going.
21:19It's going to be a fight and blood.
21:21There's no feeling like a guilty verdict.
21:26Sam...
21:32She knew better than anyone that I'm not big on public speaking.
21:37But I admired her so much...
21:42that I'm up here.
21:46A lot of people loved her, and I was one of them.
21:51I just want to say that I'm grateful for the years we spent together.
21:55I'm grateful for...
22:03our son...
22:06who we both love very much.
22:10I'm grateful for Sam.
22:12She taught me a lot...
22:15about life.
22:17She was one of the bravest and toughest people I've ever known.
22:22I'm up here because I just, I really want her kids...
22:27to know how special she was.
22:29That she mattered to so many people.
22:32Including me.
22:40There's no one like your mom.
22:46No one.
22:55I wasn't going to speak today.
22:58I thought it'd be too hard.
23:01It is hard, but...
23:04it's important for people to know who my mom was and what she meant to us.
23:09I asked my dad for advice on what I should say.
23:13He told me just to talk about the things she loved.
23:18So, here goes.
23:21My mom loved to go fast.
23:25Doesn't matter what she was driving.
23:27Motorcycle, a car, a go-kart.
23:31As long as she was wearing a helmet, she'd say.
23:34Not in the car.
23:36Although, she probably would have loved that.
23:41She loved a good leather jacket.
23:44Black, obviously.
23:47She said a good one lasts a lifetime.
23:51So, Scout, we're going to keep hers so you can wear it when you're older.
23:56She loved Chinese food.
24:00Especially from Noodle Buddha.
24:02She always made us read out our fortune cookies.
24:06I thought it was lame, but I did it anyways.
24:09Because it made her happy.
24:13I loved to see my mom happy.
24:17But most of all, my mom loved us.
24:21Me, Scout, Rocco.
24:25Although, we'll miss hearing her say it every day.
24:30We know it.
24:33That's what counts.
24:47I've been where you are, Lucas.
24:51In fact, I'm there right now.
24:53It's a territory I wish I were not so familiar with.
24:56We are not the same.
24:59No. No, we're not.
25:03Your stay is temporary.
25:06But right now, today, in this moment,
25:09when you are feeling so isolated and misunderstood,
25:15please know that you're not alone.
25:18I'm here for you.
25:21Just like my brother would want me to be.
25:27I don't normally need notes to talk about my girls,
25:30but I'll pretty much talk about them any time to anyone who will listen.
25:35But these are not normal times.
25:39And I was worried that I would forget
25:43because I'm so sad.
25:48And I don't want to forget anything
25:51because I want to just get this right
25:54because my exceptional daughter deserves that.
26:04Sam and I weren't always in each other's lives.
26:10I didn't meet her until she was an adult,
26:14an adult shaped by some pretty heavy and serious circumstances
26:20that somehow she transcended into fierce self-determination
26:27and strength and kind-heartedness.
26:33I so regret missing her childhood.
26:39And I wish I was there to raise her.
26:43But I have to tell you
26:46that the two greatest joys in my life
26:51were us finding each other and then choosing each other.
26:57And they say you can't choose your family.
27:00And they say you can't choose your family, but we did.
27:07My brother met his end far too soon.
27:12But in one way at least, Julian was a lucky man.
27:17How so?
27:19He died before his daughter did.
27:22And burying a child is a pain I wouldn't wish on anybody.
27:27And I'm glad he was spared that.
27:30By the time my father died, I had no use for him.
27:35He made too many toxic decisions.
27:37He burned too many bridges.
27:40But I am grateful that I am for Sam.
27:45I had one hell of a sister.
27:49You had one hell of not, too.
27:53I know.
27:58This is a little dicey right at the beginning, but...
28:02I mean, mother-daughter relationships
28:04can be complex even in the best of circumstances.
28:08Where's your compassion?
28:10I want you to look at her.
28:12Because I can't make you induce labor,
28:14but I can, by God, make you see the price of your selfishness
28:17because it's easy to ignore death when it's not staring you in the face
28:21when it's down the hall in some corridor
28:23when it's somebody else's child.
28:25I want you to look at my daughter!
28:27Okay!
28:28I want you to do it!
28:29I want you to do it!
28:30Okay, she does!
28:31I will induce my labor for you, okay?
28:34Ow!
28:35Ow!
28:36How it tastes, my baby.
28:39But we hung in there, and we walked right through it.
28:43And we got to the other side.
28:46And it was a real love story.
28:50An unbounded love story.
28:54I didn't just love my daughter.
28:56I really, really liked her.
28:59She wasn't just my daughter.
29:01She was my friend.
29:03And I knew that my leather-clad beauty
29:07would have my back at any given time.
29:10I don't know if I could have even raised you guys without her
29:15because she was our anchor.
29:18And I had a couple of times where I became completely unmoored,
29:23and she grounded me.
29:26She put her arms around me,
29:28and she held on to me until I could steady myself.
29:33And that's when I realized,
29:36She held on to me until I could steady myself
29:41because her belief in me was unflappable.
29:48It was unshakable.
29:51And I don't know if she really ever understood how powerful that was.
29:59I don't think any of you probably know what it's like
30:02to have an adrenaline junkie for a daughter.
30:05It's kind of scary.
30:07And she did not shy away from danger, which I did not love.
30:12But I will say, after every exploit,
30:16which she mercifully didn't tell me about until after she tackled it
30:19and she was safe and sound, but after every single exploit,
30:23I was so impressed with her.
30:29I'm so proud of her.
30:32I am so proud to be her mother.
30:37So much so that I have decided
30:41that the only way to honor my beautiful, brave girl
30:46is to be brave like she was.
30:49And so I have decided that I will not grieve long,
30:55and I will not get lost in sorrow,
31:00but I will hold her in my heart and let her go.
31:05Send her off on her journey

31:27we ask for your comfort to surround us.

31:33sustain us in the days ahead,
31:35and may your presence be felt in our hearts as we grieve.

33:07They say that love and grief are forever intertwined.
33:13And now I know that's true because my heart feels like
33:18it's breaking and bursting.
33:24Listen, pooch, what I'm about to do,
33:28it ain't gonna be boring.
33:30Ain't gonna be pretty either, but it'll sure beat
33:35this run of bad luck I've been having.
33:37Let go of me!
33:38I am not gonna hurt you!
33:39You kidnap me at gunpoint and force me to drive
33:41in the middle of nowhere, and I'm supposed to trust you?
33:42I got to get out of town!
33:44I want to say the magic words to you right now.
33:46It's gonna make all of this all better for you.
33:49All I can tell you is that I am here,
33:51and I'm not going anywhere this time.
33:56Thanks, Mom.
33:59You gave orders to let me win.
34:04There is only one thing I can do.
34:07And what would that be?
34:10Reciprocate.
34:12I have to take my GED test tomorrow.
34:14Yes, and I haven't studied for anything.
34:16No, so I'm probably gonna fail.
34:18Would you mind if I screamed?
34:19Because you're just standing here being all calm
34:21and insufferable.
34:22Maybe I could help you pass your test.

34:27Get out of the car!
34:32I got you a thank you present.
34:36Okay, these are gorgeous.

34:50Oh, you're pretty strong, too.
34:53Oh, God.
34:54What?
34:55I think we just had a girlfriend moment.
35:05You look familiar.
35:10Hold the bat tight.
35:13You're smiling.
35:15Does that mean you approve I look like a money Carlo jet setter?
35:25I love you both so very much.
35:30You know, life doesn't pull any punches,
35:33and sometimes people have to fight
35:35for every scrap of joy they get
35:37because of that fight.
35:39We need to cherish every single moment.
35:41So, here's to the Davis family, past, present, and future.
35:50To family.
