00:00and Bob Love meant so much to the Bulls in those days, 81 years old.
00:04Great story, Bob Love.
00:06Oh, you know what?
00:06He had a stutter and he had to overcome that.
00:09I was at something where in his latter years, he was a Bulls ambassador.
00:13Yes.
00:13So he would be around the community.
00:15Yes.
00:15This is probably 10 to 15 years ago.
00:18I was at the Tribune.
00:19I was covering something and he was one of the speakers.
00:21And I have to say that I'm sure that he told this story time and again.
00:24And if you want to read it, Sam Smith on Bulls.com has a tremendous
00:28tribute because Sam was close, I think, with Bob Love and really respected him.
00:33Bob Love, after his playing days were over and he was a great Bull,
00:38was in financial hardship, went bankrupt.
00:41A leading scorer in Bulls history for a long period of time.
00:43Yes.
00:44And yet, in spite of that, he was down on his luck in Seattle,
00:50went to work as a dishwasher, a busboy, making like $4.45 an hour.
00:55Right.
00:56And couldn't overcome the stutter.
00:59Yes.
01:00And then he found out in Seattle help for it, a therapist that helped him get past it.
01:07And then he became somebody who would talk about his story as an ambassador.
01:11He took this group.
01:12I forget where it was, but this group, it was probably a lunch crowd.
01:16They were moved by the way that he talked about.
01:20Right.
01:21What he went through.
01:22And it was impossible not to be.
01:24Ton of respect for him.
01:26Big loss for the franchise.
01:27And 81 years old.
01:29Rest in peace.
01:30Yeah.
01:30He apparently had a long battle with cancer.
01:34So it's sad to, you know, we stand on the shoulders of giants and that organization.
01:42He was one of the first superstars in that organization and a great player.
01:47And as you say, a great ambassador, a lovely man, like a very,
01:52a very nice person, really good guy.
01:56Bob Love in all of my dealings with him over the years.
02:00And yeah, I figure from my childhood.
02:02I always had that reputation as being just a real great guy and terrific ambassador.
