00:00Addison hello. Hi. It is so nice to see you here. Have you a person?
00:04Thank you so much for stopping by and letting us know what you have going on in life
00:07There's so much happening for you right now. You gotta be so excited
00:10I am I'm so excited to talk to you because again
00:13It's been so fun to watch your journey and see everything that's been happening
00:15I've been so eager to just check in with you and see how life's been but we're in LA right now. You live here
00:21It's obviously been chilly
00:24You're from Louisiana originally, right? Yeah
00:26You go back at all. Yeah, I'm excited for the holidays to go back. That's really family. Oh my gosh
00:32Is it cold there in the winter?
00:35Like I don't know it's pretty hot there generally for the most part
00:41Really hot and humid. So I feel like when it's that's why I said and it's anything below like 70
00:47It's pretty cold for me because I think it's just so hot there so much of the time but randomly it'll snow
00:53Okay, but like not real snow it's kind of a blue moon lands on the ground and then goes away
00:59Yeah, absolutely. I want to get down there so bad. We have a station there that we're on
01:03I haven't been able to to go down there and visit yet, but I always hear so many good things about it
01:07What's your one like you have to go and do if you're in Louisiana?
01:10Definitely like New Orleans. Yeah is the place you must go to
01:14Beignets. Oh gotta have some beignets in the morning coffee
01:19Jazz show maybe it's a good must
01:23swamp tour
01:25What's in the swamps down there they got gators. Yeah. Yeah, we're here in studio. You wanted to do something like this, right broadcasting
01:32Yeah, I went to LSU for
01:35Three months
01:38What do you want to do I think I just wanted to
01:43Be on TV, I think that was kind of a main thing for me or just talk and
01:48And perform I think that was just always a goal for me and I think when I was growing up I
01:54Grew up competitive dancer. So I thought that was gonna be something I would do no matter what and
02:00Then it kind of as I was getting older
02:02it became less realistic to just like Oh move to a big city and you know chase those dreams, but then
02:09Somebody had told me
02:11Like you have to do something realistic and I was like, okay
02:15What's a way I can you know get into the entertainment industry
02:19Without just saying oh, I want to move to LA and audition for things or you know start a music career
02:26Things that didn't seem very realistic to most people in my hometown
02:30And so journalism was one of those things because I loved
02:33Aaron Andrews and like Kelsey Langer and I loved sports so kind of seemed like oh, this is a good way in you know
02:40yeah, and
02:42So funny cuz I did the same thing. I want to do sports broadcasting so bad
02:45Then I fell into the music side of it
02:46But then this past year I got to do the Olympics and it's like it's so funny how life goes full circle
02:50Yeah, do that too. You saw Snoop Dogg on the thing be out there doing I don't know what he knows about like lacrosse
02:56But you know that just shows you yeah, I don't know if I would
02:59Do it. I do know a lot about sports that like football. I know a lot about football
03:03I know a lot about baseball. Yeah, I feel like I could figure it out if I got thrown into the scenario, but I prefer
03:12You know the art side of it all when you get to your side quest era. I just start doing all that stuff
03:16But you're doing a lot right now. What's like your favorite thing that you're doing right now? I'm really into fitness
03:21Mm-hmm. I like working out my favorite thing to do right now other than obviously create because I think worse
03:27But that is such a you know broad area for me. Mm-hmm. I love making music. I love acting I
03:35Love dancing. I think they all felt fall under this umbrella of creating and performing
03:40And so anything under that realm
03:43There's no
03:45No limits, you know, nothing's off limits. Tell you what's off limits for me. I'm so done with Pilates. Have you done those?
03:51Yeah, I love ones where people are just like I'm the guy where the leg is like going crazy
03:58But I do Pilates somewhere else and I love Pilates, but I prefer running. Yeah. Oh my gosh, that's good, too
04:05Running stuff. Yeah start going for you know, you can you do a marathon?
04:09Is that a goal of yours at some point? Yeah, actually, I would love to do a marathon
04:16Now we know they'll be doing the marathon with me I want to do a marathon
04:20There's a Disney marathon. Oh my gosh sign us up right now
04:25Is it at Disney? Yes
04:27Disney it's through the park
04:29It's like stop and halfway through and do rides or something. That's so crazy
04:32I think they have something it starts really early like before the park opens and then you run until the park opens
04:39I think do you know about it?
04:43An interest I I just love I love challenging myself
04:48Yeah, and I think fitness is like somewhere that you can never really find a cap. Mm-hmm. We'll see
04:55I know I think Pilates was my cap
04:57After that, but the run Disney thing. I feel like you'd have enough serotonin from like Mickey looking at you
05:02Yeah, just go the food stops. Maybe it could be really fun or just like ruin the run
05:07I absolutely destroy your Star Wars turkey leg. I would do mid mid mile a turkey leg
05:14Oh my gosh, if you stop in the first mile for a turkey leg, it's over
05:212.5 in that's so funny. Well, it has been so cool. I mean we've been watching your life
05:25It feels like for so long and it's been so cool to see your journey
05:28How in your eyes would you like kind of describe your evolution to how we got here? Um, I think a
05:36Lot of growing up I was just talking about it recently, but I feel like you know
05:43Everyone can relate to this feeling of when you start something and it feels new
05:48It's like you want to say yes to everything and it feels
05:52Like maybe it's partially because you're like, well, let's go away or like are these you know
05:58Things that are lingering just passing by and am I gonna miss them?
06:02And so I think in the beginning I was like really big. Yes girl. I want to say yes to everything
06:07I was even talking about my style. I think it was like a funny thing
06:11I remember a few years ago people would be like, oh my god, she has no taste no style. I'm like
06:16Sorry, I was excited about everything that was getting sent to me
06:19Like I was just wearing whatever I got cuz it was just so exciting
06:22and so I would just you know get a package from a
06:25Random brand and I'd be like I'm gonna wear everything in here because it was so exciting and new
06:30But then as I got older and as I've gone
06:34deeper into my career deeper into myself and gotten more comfortable with saying no or maybe
06:41Accepting that sometimes things
06:44Need to pass you by for other things to come up
06:47I really like honed in on my style and my personal tastes and interests and I
06:53Found it more valuable. Mm-hmm that way
06:55Totally like there's such a value in scarcity, right and like making sure you choose those things that you value and you know
07:02I actually love so I think you know, it's such a part of being young and of course thrown into Los Angeles
07:08There's just so many options and it's like gotta try everything, you know, and then find what I like
07:14What's like college for so many people and you don't really get that so you got to like experiment and try different things and yours
07:19Was just a bunch of you know
07:25Gosh I can't imagine the amount of boxes you get for like everything, you know what I mean?
07:29I feel like I've gotten better at it though, cuz I actually will now
07:33It feels really wasteful. Honestly, it's like kind of a burden to an extent
07:40Do you ever do like care packages for people like
07:43And that is fun because I think it's it's always funny
07:47To see what people like choose because they don't feel inclined to keep everything obviously
07:52But they're you know, see what they pick and like and it's always fun. But yeah, I do
07:56I think I've gotten better at just being like, you know
08:00gifting I almost rather like purchase something because then it feels more
08:06Essential and like valuable, you know, and I always feel like kind of guilty and I just get gifted too much stuff
08:12Yeah, it's alright fine. Grandma. You're getting a Birkin this year
08:16Amazing my grandma would love that. Oh my gosh. Well, congratulations on so many things. First of all diet Pepsi
08:23It's been an anthem for so many people myself included. It's so fun. It was a perfect summer song
08:28So congratulations on the love for that. What's it like?
08:30You know hearing people actually sing every single lyric and like you're hearing it on the radio. What's that ride been?
08:37Like it's been crazy. Also, it's funny seeing because I think diet Pepsi
08:41Is the song I
08:44guess out of the two that I've recently put out that
08:46The lyrics like people make their own kind of version of the lyrics to and people think I say Costco chain
08:52What?
08:54And honestly, I posted an Instagram story about it and I was like, oh, you know, I don't say Costco chain
09:00I say cross gold chain, which is grammatically incorrect, but
09:04It made sense to me and it makes more sense than Costco
09:09It's saying better than gold cross chain, honestly, and that's why I was like, let's just change it and who cares
09:15but hearing people say that it's Costco chain is funny and
09:18Could have been totally
09:20applicable in that scenario
09:22Like in in which to hit you up and make it
09:26Nice story. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I didn't think about that
09:31Everything the Costco guys and like how that would be a whole thing, but
09:37Thinking that at all, but I was no like actual Costco. Also, they have like good ice cream
09:41It's like Ikea vibes hot dog the pizza. It's all dollar. Yeah, not an ad for
09:48It is a great place find establishment
09:52Your buddy Charlie XCX helped you out with that song especially the title
09:56What was it supposed to be called before diet Pepsi?
09:58It was initially just gonna be backseat, but it was just I knew that that wasn't right and I think we didn't really know
10:05What it was gonna be called
10:07myself and the two girls that I wrote it with but
10:11Yeah, I think when I played it for Charlie, she just immediately when I said I've seen this song
10:17She was like what why isn't the song called diet Pepsi? And I was like, I don't know
10:21I like I don't know is that just crazy and she was like no you should a hundred percent call it diet Pepsi
10:25And I think at that point I was kind of like, I mean, why would I doubt Charlie?
10:30She's always right about so many things and and she's really smart
10:34And yeah, I was kind of like I'm down to name a type of saving. It's really interesting and cool fits
10:39Oh, well, what a good person to have Charlie who's like not just gonna be like, yeah
10:44I love love the song go with the title who actually gives you advice and feedback
10:47Yeah, helping you at all with new music or anything you're working on right now
10:51We've we've done sessions and wrote together but a lot recently I've been
10:57writing with the two girls that I I did diet Pepsi and aquamarine with but Charlie is always someone that I'm you know,
11:06Inclined to play music for and get her opinion on because she's so honest
11:10Like you said, she's gonna actually give me advice that's real and not just say oh wow
11:16It's so amazing. Everything's amazing, you know, and that's always pretty valuable in this process. But
11:22Yeah, I mean, I'm really lucky
11:26Charlie because without her I definitely wouldn't have had the confidence to write diet Pepsi and aquamarine
11:33Because she put a lot of trust into me whenever we wrote von Dutch remix
11:37and so that was a really big game-changer for me when she
11:41She kind of just said to me
11:42I trust your taste and your vision and I want to hear what you have to say
11:45And I think that changed a lot for me because I was pretty insecure about it. Yeah songwriting is a funny thing. Absolutely
11:51It's a funny thing. I don't know if you ever tried it
12:00Who knows absolutely
12:02I mean, it's so good to have those people right like and shout to speaking of von Dutch a G cook with the the Grammy
12:07Nom, so exciting for them. So cool. He deserves it. Oh my gosh, and obviously Charlie killing it
12:13You feel like you found your people like in how important is it to you know
12:18Have those that you can work with creatively like you already mentioned the confidence, but how is it to find that group?
12:23I mean, it's really special. I think when you trust people's tastes around you. It's always a safe space and also
12:31there's so much they have so much credibility in time and
12:35creating things that surpass what people are expecting or
12:39Just
12:41trusting their instincts and I think that's pretty rare is to find people that
12:45Fully do what they want to do creatively and trust it and they're very much like that
12:50and it's been it's been really nice to be around people that have
12:53similar interests in why or similar goals and why they make music or
12:58Performer really all of that and Troy's incredible as well. He's been such a great friend and
13:05Yeah, I love them all they're amazing people have you had them on the show Troy no Charlie, yes, I talked to Charlie back when
13:13Back when she did speed drive for Barbie and I asked about you and she just raved about how and that was early on too
13:19And she just talked about how much she believed in you and how much she thought you were a star and like obviously
13:23She's so right and it's it was so fun
13:26So hopefully we'll get Charlie in here soon because that was during like still people doing zoom stuff. Yeah. I know you live that life
13:32Did not like the zoom days. Not at all
13:36But you're zooming you're I'm gonna try I was trying to transition to there
13:39Zooming through life now with aquamarine congrats on that song so much fun
13:45You're talking about transforming realigning
13:47What do those words mean when you know you you think about writing those and making that song?
13:52well aquamarine the stone and
13:55Like kind of what it represents is rebirth and transformation
13:59So kind of leaned into that perspective of that and like what that meant for me. Also, the movie is amazing
14:08Yeah, so come on a beautiful message about friendship Wow, it's been a while though
14:12That is that is a throwback. Oh and like the people in that movie like Jojo. Yeah movie and Emma Roberts
14:19It's so funny. I had met her
14:22We went to the US Open and sat in the same place in the same like suite and I told her no
14:29With Emma Roberts and I told her I was like, by the way, I have a song coming out
14:32It was way before I even announced aquamarine or talked about it
14:35And I was like, I have a song coming out called aquamarine. She had to say it to you and she was like
14:38Oh my gosh, that's so funny. Oh, it was a really full-circle moment actually cuz I was like, oh I
14:43Was I was feeling a lot of I was questioning a lot
14:47I think after diet Pepsi came out and it was received so well in a way it it like scared me
14:54You know cuz I was like, whoa
14:55People really liked it now the pressure is real and I think it was almost more pressure to prove that it wasn't just like
15:04luck in a way and so now it's a different kind of approach to things and
15:09But it's amazing and I'm obviously so grateful and it's been it's actually the the right kind of push, you know
15:15It's when people like something you do
15:18There's a new standard and so that was like the universe telling me you're good. Trust your gut on aquamarine
15:24So I did and then obviously it came out and and people really have been enjoying it, which has been
15:30Really magical because it's so different than diet Pepsi. So it's been nice to see people respond to both
15:35Absolutely, and even though it's like the follow-up and that's always stressful and everything
15:38You can tell you've definitely found your sound and you're developing into what you want to sound as an artist, you know
15:43which is
15:44Awesome. It's got to be such a fun thing to like feel like you're getting your footing in that regard and it sounds like you're
15:49Having a blast with the music video or at least it looks like it getting to do the visuals. Yeah, I know
15:54Whatever however much fun it looks like I'm having in those videos just know it's double it's triple
16:00Where does it stand when you come to like the music video telling its own separate story?
16:04And it like you know
16:06The obviously the lyrics and the song being a story on its own and then making the music video a completely different thing
16:10Like how how far do you like to go into that world and make it its own thing?
16:13I think it depends. I think with diet Pepsi
16:17It was pretty like self-explanatory the lyrics and they were they almost guided the video a lot
16:23more than aquamarine did you know because it was so much to
16:26interpret I think with aquamarine and
16:30I'm a very big vision board person. Like I love creating a mood board and like putting photos together and and
16:36What photos or what?
16:38You know things inspire me that feel like the song feels and so when we got the chance to do the video in Paris
16:45It was obviously really magical and and a very different take on what the song could have meant. I think because it was so
16:53It's so water based and feels very summery
16:56It's it's like I wanted to challenge myself to make the video not that because I was so on the nose with it
17:02and then we ended up with
17:04Aquamarine music video shot in Paris, which was a really magical thing, but we did I was in the bathtub. So yeah that counts
17:12Was like where is the the mermaid
17:15I
17:17Know a lot of people said that I was like, well
17:19Should I give you a mermaid costume in a different and a different way of performing that? Yeah
17:24I'm surprised you should have went marine biologist everyone to be that at some point, right? Yeah, I did too
17:29What was that about? I know
17:31marine biologist, I love
17:34Dolphins and whales. Yeah
17:36Some life right how on the nose it actually was I didn't know was like, oh no, it's I love the movie
17:41I love aqua life
17:44Really about well, I'm sure you're always working on new music, you know as an artist
17:48I feel like you kind of have that in your mind all the time
17:50But where do you find yourself like the most creative like you talked about vision boards?
17:54What's your process kind of look like when you know, you want to get into that space?
17:59Hmm. I mean it can come from anywhere
18:01I feel like watching movies could inspire that which it did the title itself was inspired by
18:07When I rewatched the movie again, I was like, well the word aquamarine
18:10I need to like look more into that and so that inspired a lot
18:13Diet Pepsi was
18:15so
18:16It was so
18:18exact
18:19With a moment and I and I wrote that thinking of a moment in time in my life
18:24But I feel like it can come from anywhere really I think musically
18:29Sometimes I'll hear a song and and I feel a certain way when I listen to it and I'm like
18:34How can I make someone feel the same way? I felt listening to this song on
18:39Their own and so a lot of times it comes from that less about inspiration
18:44I don't ever really listen to a song and think oh
18:47I want to make a song just like this because that purpose was already accomplished
18:51You know that that song's done and it exists. It's kind of like the same with film, you know
18:56It's you can't just remake a film. I mean people do it a lot now, but
19:03No, but you know, there's obviously purposes for those but I think I try and always
19:09replicate a feeling
19:11versus replicating
19:13You know sound or a concept. It's like how can I get someone to feel that way when they hear my song or how can I?
19:21In what worlds could I make a playlist and like fit my song in there and accomplish that feeling, you know, totally
19:28So yeah inspiration comes from anywhere and nostalgia is such a powerful thing, too
19:31And when you tap into your own, I feel like it gives you so much
19:33You know like ideas and not exactly what you're talking about
19:36Like what made me feel like that and how can I replicate that in a new a new version new era type exactly like how?
19:42Can I make that feeling?
19:43That I felt which is a current thing really, you know
19:47something current for someone else that feels fresh and new and and you can relate to that
19:53Sensation, which is actually really hard because you never really know. Oh, absolutely. And every every experience is personal
19:58So it's like is that how I know it's just for me. How did you feel when you listen?
20:06I
20:10Speak in a playlist though. What's on your playlist lately? I feel like diet Pepsi. Obviously, we're all listening to you
20:14What's what's like been stuck in your head lately? Hmm. I
20:18Love the song who's that girl by Madonna? I thought you're about to say new girl theme song. I was imagine
20:23No, I do listen to like there's a Tarantino playlist
20:26It's like all the songs from Tarantino movies in a playlist and sometimes I'll listen to that. Oh cool. Lots of Erykah Badu recently. I
20:35Actually saw her at the CFDAs, which is a really well crazy magical
20:40Energetic experience and she had an amazing speech. So I haven't seen that you should watch that
20:463000 was there which was crazy and gave her the award which was
20:50Legendary you're getting so many cool full-circle moment things, you know, like
20:56Everything got what would younger Addison say and more importantly like what advice would you give younger Addison seeing you where you are now?
21:02Everything and looking back on her before all this, you know became a thing probably
21:09Good luck
21:11But never give up yes, you know the classic one
21:14I don't think there's anything in my life that I would change or tell my younger self
21:18It's actually a movie called my old ass. Did you see it? No, it's a new movie. See it. It's really good
21:23it's called what my old ass gotcha, and it's Aubrey Plaza and
21:28Maisie Stella and they are so amazing in it, but the plot or kind of like the
21:34Story is about what you would tell your younger self. Mm-hmm, or I guess what you would ask your older self as well
21:41Oh, yeah, and it's a beautiful story
21:43I'm not gonna spoil it, but it's something really beautiful and it you know
21:46Like I said, I wouldn't change anything in my life
21:48There's nothing that I would tell myself to be careful of or
21:50Warn myself up because I think everything in my life led me to where I am. Totally. Absolutely. I'm gonna check that out
21:56It's on the list
21:57And I mean obviously acting is a huge thing for you. You got the music going on fashion
22:02Is there anything else that like piece your interest right now that you'd like to do at some point talked about sports?
22:08Maybe she'll be on the sidelines. I know I'm like, I don't know power lifting Wow
22:14Power lifting, I don't know. I think strength is a really interesting thing to me to like explore
22:21You know like it's a good challenge and I and I think what I said earlier, too
22:25There's never like a real limit to it. And that's interesting to me
22:31Thousand pounds like no, I think I could squat a
22:35Lot, I'm not gonna say a number actually
22:37I don't I don't want to overdo it, but I feel like I could squat a lot. Yeah power lifting
22:42I love that at the very least there's a music video there for something, right?
22:47Speaking of movies holiday coming up Thanksgiving. It's on my list. It's on Netflix Thanksgiving
22:52Giving what are your plans? Are you going to Louisiana? Yeah, what's the favorite dish when it comes to that holiday?
22:59probably
23:01Gumbo gumbo man, I've never had gumbo. I'd even know what it is
23:08Yes, it's like it's the thing that's always sloshing around in the pot. Yep. It's like a rue like a don't know what that is
23:16What's a rue? Um, I mean, it's just just never mind
23:21Was like such a Thanksgiving theme for it's not really Thanksgiving. It's more of a southern thing, but I don't know
23:26I like candied yams. That's a good Thanksgiving Wow, not the choices. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't those
23:33Baked beans Wow Addison
23:37Really good, that's your bottom. Well baked beans is I
23:44Think baked beans are so good. Also, I can make really good baked beans. They're like sweet baked beans
23:49I'm sorry, just the sweet together. It just doesn't sound right to me. I'm taking a chipotle
23:56Addison we gotta wrap this up
24:01What is what is one of your lower that what don't you like cuz I feel like you just named all of my least
