00:00Trump's resounding victory in the electoral count and the popular vote is being taken to mean as having a sweeping

00:06mandate or blanket authority to run the government as he pleases and with little if no assistance or

00:12challenge at all. A number of his cabinet picks indicate just that along with the House speakers latest pronouncement of a major shake-up in the

00:20bureaucracy on day one of the Trump 2.0 presidency. VOA's Veronica Balderas Iglesias has the full story.

00:30President-elect Donald Trump continued making cabinet nominations during the weekend

00:35including that of Chris Wright, an advocate for the oil and gas industry who would serve as Secretary of Energy.

00:43Trump has prioritized political loyalists for key cabinet positions.

00:48One pick in particular that of former Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz as Attorney General

00:55continues to steer controversy. Before Gaetz resigned last week a House Ethics Committee had been

01:02investigating whether he engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. Gaetz denies the accusations.

01:09Democratic Representative Adam Schiff told CNN's State of the Union that Gaetz in his view is

01:16unqualified to serve in the proposed role. Are we really gonna have an Attorney General who

01:22there's credible allegations he was involved in child sex trafficking,

01:26potential illicit drug use, obstruction of investigation, who has no experience serving in the Justice Department, only being investigated by it.

01:33Republican Senator Mark Wayne Mullen believes the Senate should have access to the investigation

01:39findings but told NBC's Meet the Press that Gaetz deserves a fair chance of being confirmed for the role.

01:46I have no doubt that President Trump believes that Matt Gaetz is the right person to do the right job.

01:51Matt will be treated the same as every nominee out there. The House Minority Leader,

01:57Democratic Representative Hakeem Jeffries also appeared Sunday on NBC.

02:02He questioned President-elect Trump's cabinet picks, some of whom lack experience related to their proposed roles.

02:10Is this the very best that America has to offer for a moment like this with so many challenges that we confront?

02:18Of course not. With their votes to elect Donald Trump,

02:22the American people have given the Republicans the mandate to shake up the status quo,

02:28underscored the Speaker of the House of Representatives,

02:31Republican Mike Johnson. Any president has the right to name their own

02:36cabinet, to nominate persons that they think will fulfill their agenda, and the people that are on this list will do that.

02:42They will go into the agencies that they're being asked to lead and they will reform them.

02:46It is expected that most of Trump's cabinet picks will win quick Senate approval after

02:52confirmation hearings. The president-elect has also called on Senate Republican leaders to allow him to make

03:00recess appointments, which would erase the need for the hearings.
