Yorkshire Water and EON plan to get green energy from Sheffield sewage works
Transcript
00:00I'm here today at Blackburn Meadows with Yorkshire Water, incredibly excited to sign a new partnership
00:11agreement.
00:12We're two organisations that has a long-standing presence in Sheffield and by working together
00:18we've got an opportunity to make a real difference in terms of how we deliver decarbonised heat
00:23to the people of Sheffield and how we decarbonise each other's operations.
00:27One of the nice things about meeting partners who are working in the same space is that
00:31we can talk about how to make things better in the future.
00:34Both organisations are absolutely committed to net zero and the journey towards that.
00:38It's going to be fantastic, we'll work on a number of different energy projects together.
00:44The first one is creating a private wire directly from our site here at Blackburn Meadows over
00:49to Yorkshire Water and provide power and heat to the water treatment site.
00:56There is a possibility that the waste water treatment works here could become one of the
01:00first plants off-grid in totality in the UK.
01:04We'll work on other heat utilisation to use the waste from the water treatment process
01:11and reuse and recycle that to make sure we can reduce the carbon being used.
01:17Then we'll be expanding our heat network across the lower Don Valley, that'll provide heat
01:23for another 40,000 homes and businesses.
01:26We're really excited at E.ON to be working with Yorkshire Water, taking this partnership
01:31forward to create a cleaner, greener environment for this region.
