00:00When planning a holiday we all check how many stars a hotel has but what do they
00:04really mean and who decides? In Australia the official star rating system is
00:09managed by Star Ratings Australia, part of the Australian Tourism Industry
00:14Council. Properties are judged on quality, cleanliness and facilities with ratings
00:19ranging from one star, basic, to five star, luxury. Star ratings aren't all the same
00:24though as they're dependent on what type of accommodation you're in. A basic motor
00:28in could get 3.5 stars even if it's not that plush because the expectation for
00:33amenities and luxury versus a 3.5 star hotel is quite different. Of course with
00:39the rise of social media and influences personal experiences and recommendations
00:43are becoming just as important as star ratings. I think that's inherent in the
00:48way we we live and breathe today and it is about having the interest, the
00:54inquisity of reading what other people's experiences. People like to have
00:58verification, they like to have enforcement that I'm buying the right product.
