My most controversial cricket opinion is that I don't like the Player of the Match award. Why do you need this? Cricket is a team sport. Half the unnecessary debates in cricket will disappear if you remove the Player of the Match award. I’m all for rewarding the best player, but when you have two equally good performances in a match, all this award does is divide players. I believe, it only exists so that boards can get extra money from sponsors. The Player of the Match award still makes some sense, but IPL awards are something else. I mean, catch of the match, biggest six! What’s next? The best run-up, best running between the wickets or best dive. It's a team sport; let it be a team sport.
