Findlay, Ohio — On October 28, 2024, a 17-year-old named Kalvin Darapheth died after an encounter with Findlay Police at a local park where officers responded to a call about suspected underage drinking. According to police, Darapheth fled as officers arrived, prompting a foot pursuit. During the chase, Darapheth reportedly fired twice at one of the officers, who then returned fire, striking him multiple times. After the shooting, officers immediately began first aid, and Darapheth was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Following standard protocol, the involved officers were placed on leave while the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) leads an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, with findings expected to be presented for further review upon completion.
