00:00How much do you spend to host Thanksgiving?
00:03Anywhere between $250 and $350.
00:05$300.
00:06It comes to hundreds of dollars, basically.
00:09This year, it may cost a little less.
00:11If you're a savory, no, make that a savvy shopper,
00:14according to Josh Cobert.
00:16The researcher at Finance Buzz found that shopping the sales
00:19before you go to the stores can give you a leg up on savings.
00:23You can find one of these really good special sales that go,
00:26hey, if you buy $50 worth of food,
00:28you can get a turkey for $1 a pound or something.
00:31Those savings can really add up.
00:33Some stores offer even better deals for the bird
00:35if you spend a certain amount.
00:37But if you do pay out of pocket,
00:39the national average for a turkey is down for the first time
00:42in at least three years.
00:44Turkeys are actually 12% cheaper than last year,
00:47which is a pretty big difference.
00:49Shoppers will also see a big difference in prices
00:51for some store brands.
00:53Cobert says consumers should mix and match.
00:56If you're putting together a table with lots of dishes,
00:58buy the store brand potatoes.
01:00Buy the store brand vegetables.
01:02While cranberries, potatoes, and pies
01:04are among the items that have gone down in price,
01:07expect to pay a little more for stuffing this year
01:09and nearly 40% more for eggs.
01:12Can't catch a break.
01:13Walmart, Target, and Aldi are among the retailers
01:15highlighting money-saving Thanksgiving meals,
01:17and customers can spend anywhere from $5 to $7 per person
01:21and get all of the items for their dinner
01:23without having to stress over shopping.
01:25You can expect to spend, to feed a family of eight,
01:28about $50.
01:30As for the cost of drinks, expect to pay about 2% to 3% more
01:34for beer and wine, according to a Wells Fargo report
01:37that reveals liters of soft drinks will cost 11% less.
01:41But the best way to save, depending on who you ask...
01:44I go to my son's house.
01:46I don't host it at my home.
01:47We go to our kids'.
01:48Just go elsewhere and bring a dessert.
