There will be an extended overnight train schedule in Sydney from midnight until Sunday as part of an ongoing industrial dispute about railway workers pay. The government capitulated to demands for 24-hour services to avoid a complete shutdown of the train network. Passengers are being told to expect reduced train services during the day and delays particularly in the mornings as light rail services are also reduced.

00:00Well, it's a bit of a confusing time for commuters here in Sydney as the NSW Government and the
00:07Union bargain over a new enterprise agreement.
00:10The Union had been threatening to completely shut down the rail network today if the Government
00:15didn't come to the table on its demands, but now it looks like we're actually going to
00:19be seeing an increase in services rather than a decrease, and that's because there's going
00:24to be a trial this weekend of the 24-hour train service timetable.
00:28What this means in practical terms is that if you are wanting to travel on a suburban
00:33Sydney train service between the hours of about midnight and 4am, where ordinarily you
00:38would not be able to get a train, there will be services running every half an hour.
00:43We have been warned, though, that there could be staffing issues associated with this, and
00:47we may see disruptions and cancellations through the weekend, so it's a good idea to check
00:52the apps and check on the website and make sure your trains are running, but the idea
00:56is that every half an hour you should be able to get a suburban train.
01:00Now there is other ongoing industrial action happening across the light rail network on
01:06Friday and Saturday.
01:07There will be limited services running, so the message always for when there are disruptions
01:12like this, make sure that you check ahead of your travel, make sure that your trains
01:16are running.
01:17But this is a really exciting time for Sydney as we trial 24-hour train transport.
