00:00It is the age-old question or maybe not age-old certainly several a couple decades
00:06That is can you separate the artist from?
00:11Crimes or alleged crime we have talked about this
00:14We've talked about our Kelly Bill Cosby Michael Jackson Michael Jackson
00:18It goes on and now of course this is the issue that some people are having with Diddy
00:23and whether or not I always find it interesting when I'm out places in public and
00:29they still play Diddy songs, and I look around just to see what the reaction in the room is and
00:35I'll say at least just just anecdotally there hasn't been like an outrage where people like oh they're playing that right right
00:42Well one artist who is not distant who has been able to separate alleged crimes from the art is sting
00:50He did an interview recently with the LA Times. They were talking about the Grammy nominations
00:56And he was asked about the possibility of
01:00Diddy song missing you which samples or very heavily uses just flat-out
01:06The police song every breath you take and this is what sting said about the crime the alleged crimes
01:12He said no, I'm not canceling it
01:14I mean, I don't know what went on with Diddy, but it doesn't taint the song at all for me. It's still my song
01:22That's really interesting
01:24I mean so the question is is he feel that way because it's his song or does he feel that way about all?
01:31Artists well, and even if it's just about even if it's I get your point, but even if it's just about his song
01:38To in this climate a lot of people wouldn't say that a lot of people would not say that yeah
01:44And and we've even seen artists back off from in fact remember somebody
01:49I forgot who it was changed the lyric of a song where there was a reference to Diddy Kesha Kesha
01:54Yeah, right, right, right, right if I was sting to I wouldn't have a problem in this situation because back in
01:582018 sting had done this interview where he admitted that Diddy pays him
02:02$2,000 a day to use this song. So he's making a nice a nice paycheck off of this, too
02:08Yeah, but sting doesn't need the money
02:10I mean doesn't need the money but I when he says it's still my song and it is still a song, right?
02:16But it is also still his song as a songwriter meaning he continues and by the way Diddy's music has been streaming
02:23Well, it's not like there's been suddenly, you know, no one's streaming his music
02:28And in fact in some cases it might be people who are streaming
02:31Those things more because you hear the songs you hear you're reminded of it you go back and you want to listen to it
02:37I think that's absolutely it's ironic, but it's true. Yeah, but again, I mean we you mentioned Kesha because I remember she yeah
02:43She changed the lyrics of one of her song tick-tock. Yeah, that seems to be more the norm than the exception
02:51I think sting is more the exception right now
02:53I think I can't think of anybody else people if people are speaking out
02:57I agree with you that the norm is to say you are distancing or do something to distance
03:02And then otherwise you don't say anything. So sting definitely. Yeah an outlier here. Yep
03:08Patrice from Virginia
03:10Um, i'm not surprised thing. So what he said because like he commented he makes money off of that song
03:15So why would he ever be upset that people are still playing that song?
03:18But I do think that you do have to distance yourself
03:21Especially if you're a celebrity because think about how many things we haven't even gotten everything peeled back yet
03:25We're still unpeeling the you know the onion and I just feel like a lot of stuff is going to come out
03:30So people are trying to be hush hush as much as they can for right now
03:33By the way, speaking of uh, speaking of Diddy just so you know
03:36Uh tomorrow we have our third downfall of Diddy doc
03:40Uh dropping on uh tubi and uh, it's called the downfall of Diddy
03:45inside the freak offs
03:47and um, it is an
03:49Really interesting look
03:52Because everybody hears about these freak offs now. All right, but what actually happens we've actually talked to people
03:58Um who have been in them and you have a role in this you weren't at a freak off. Yeah, that was
04:04What was that?
04:05No
04:07No, no, I don't need introductions like that
04:11Wow, no charles. We did some reporting that charles right involved in this
04:16Right that I the involved in the reporting reporting
04:20Of someone who actually was involved in one of the freak offs. Okay
04:25Really smooth. Sorry
