00:00Thousands of people have protested in two cities in Portugal to demand higher wages
00:07and pensions.
00:08The protests were called by the General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers, the country's largest
00:13federation of trade unions.
00:16The CGTP said that day-to-day difficulties faced by workers stem from political decisions
00:21and highlighted unaffordable housing and limited access to health care as key concerns.
00:27I have a higher education and I thought it would be something different, that they would
00:31offer us more conditions, more opportunities and unfortunately that was not the case.
00:36And here we are to try to fight for something more and for something less.
00:40Currently workers in Portugal get a minimum wage of 820 euros a month.
00:46The government has proposed raising the minimum wage by 50 euros a year until 2028, increasing
00:52it to over 1,000 euros.
