00:00♪♪♪
00:11Are you also one of those who rush out of the house
00:14whenever there's a chance to play tag?
00:17The process of doing that was leveled up
00:20by some computer engineering students
00:22to make it easier.
00:23Let's go.
00:24Let's change the game.
00:25♪♪♪
00:29Oh!
00:30Oh!
00:31This is one of the Filipino's favorite breakfast
00:34and comfort food,
00:35Sweet Tooth.
00:36♪♪♪
00:39Made by hand.
00:40♪♪♪
00:43It's more high-tech than ever.
00:45♪♪♪
00:48This is the Arduino-based Silken Tofu,
00:51a.k.a. Tahoe Maker.
00:53Developed by computer engineering students
00:55from STI College, Ortigas, Cainta.
00:58We need to design
01:01so that what they do manually
01:03becomes automatic.
01:06The three main processes in making tofu
01:09are already answered.
01:11Minus the usual problem of tofu producers.
01:14In cooking, there's also a cost.
01:17It's hot, there's smoke.
01:20The last thing we do is calcium sulfate.
01:24Sometimes it's not enough,
01:26sometimes it's too much.
01:28That's why there's gasping
01:30and the tofu becomes watery.
01:35When the soybeans are soaked,
01:36which is the main ingredient of tofu,
01:38it's good to go to the tofu maker
01:41where the operation is done via touch screen LCD.
01:44Our first step here in the tofu maker
01:48is to grind the soybeans.
01:51We'll put the soybeans here
01:53and we'll grind them.
01:55In the grinding process,
01:57we separate the soy pulp
02:00and the liquid form of tofu,
02:02or what they call silken tofu.
02:05We'll combine that with the calcium sulfate,
02:09which is an integral part in making tofu.
02:13We need to have the right amount.
02:15When you combine that,
02:16that's when you can make tofu.
02:22One of the highlights of this innovation
02:25is the SMS-based notification
02:27where the tofu maker receives a text message
02:30every time the process is finished.
02:32Because of the level of tofu production,
02:35Eskwelahan made an outstanding capstone project
02:38for the tofu maker.
02:40No wonder their tofu producer's case study
02:43was one of the most successful.
02:45He eats fast.
02:48He's fast.
02:54The tofu maker produces delicious and perfect quality tofu.
02:59Local tofu makers here in the country
03:02will be able to help out a lot.
03:04For GMA Integrated News,
03:06I'm Martin Avier,
03:07changing the game!
03:09With fried rice,
03:11or champorado,
03:12it's really delicious to eat when it's dry.
03:15And it's even faster
03:17using the air-drying machine
03:19that was built by some computer engineering students.
03:22Let's go!
03:23Let's change the game!
03:30It's a win if you dip it in vinegar
03:36or a combo of fried rice and champorado.
03:39But to achieve that deliciousness when it's dry,
03:43it takes two to three days of preparation.
03:49But not anymore.
03:50It's down to only 11 to 12 hours now.
03:55All thanks to the thesis project
03:57of computer engineering students
03:59from STI College, Ortigas, Cainta.
04:05Presenting DryPish,
04:07an Arduino-based air-drying machine
04:09that can also absorb moisture
04:11and filter the smell
04:13from fish like dried fish.
04:15The project will be consulted by a group
04:18with a local dried fish producer
04:20from Hagonoy, Bulacan.
04:22During our interview,
04:23we learned that
04:25the fish should not be exposed to the rain.
04:28And the fish should be exposed to the sun
04:31to dry up quickly.
04:33So the next problem with dried fish
04:35is the pests in their dryness.
04:37Since it's an open area.
04:39Lastly,
04:40since they're doing it traditionally,
04:43the way they determine
04:45when the fish can be retrieved
04:47or when it's dry,
04:49is through manually.
04:51They just pull it.
04:53It's made up of two drying racks.
04:56This is where we'll lay the fresh fish
04:59and let it dry.
05:01Then inside,
05:02we have heating rods and a fan
05:05to speed up the drying process.
05:12All the components for drying
05:14are all in here.
05:16It took us 3-5 months to get here.
05:19DryPish has a real-time probe moisture sensing
05:24that will measure up to the target moisture
05:28of the dried fish.
05:30And up here,
05:32to contain the odor
05:34that comes out of the fish,
05:37this is their exhaust.
05:40For now,
05:41we can only set it to 2 kilos.
05:44But hopefully in the future,
05:46we'll be able to increase it
05:48and make it bigger.
05:49To start the drying process
05:51in the DryPish,
05:53it will start when we press
05:55the long press,
05:56the red button on the side.
05:58If we want to monitor
06:00if the DryPish is at the right step,
06:03it has light indicators
06:05on the side.
06:13Crispy,
06:14delicious,
06:15and the fish is perfectly dried
06:18in the DryPish.
06:19I'm sure this will help a lot.
06:21It will speed up the process
06:23and of course,
06:24it will boost the local livelihood
06:26here in the country.
06:27For GMA Integrated News,
06:28I'm Martin Avier,
06:30Changing the Game!
