00:00Residents in Como this afternoon received an unwelcome shower when a major pipeline
00:07burst its seal just after 2pm this afternoon.
00:11Several homes were damaged by the extreme flows of water that were coming out of the
00:15pipe.
00:16Aerial footage captures the water bursting through fences and even through windows into
00:22people's properties.
00:24When we arrived on scene here we spoke with a number of locals and here's what they had
00:28to say about that water coming into their homes.
00:31Yeah it was a big jet of water and just our house in between sort of thing so a bit unfortunate
00:37but that's what happens.
00:39We're only just talking about water pipes in Como and what would happen if one burst
00:43a few days ago, sort of thinking of worst case scenario and now we've seen a little
00:47bit of the might of that water flushing up there thinking it would go downhill and no
00:53worries we live up a hill, apparently that doesn't save you.
00:56Most of the back half of the house I think will have a fair bit of water damage, a couple
00:59of bedrooms out the back, it's all carpeted and fibro, gyprock on the walls and paint
01:06and all our beds under the window, there's beds on the other side so I don't think we'll
01:11be sleeping here tonight, put it that way.
01:13It's not the first time there's been an issue with this pipeline, network technicians for
01:18Sydney Water were out assessing this pipe behind me when it burst its seal so locals
01:25around this area say that it is an ageing infrastructure, the water in this region
01:30and when we spoke to them they said that many of them may have to spend the night away from
01:37their homes as things dry out here.
01:39Sydney Water put out a statement in the afternoon and said that their technicians had been able
01:44to re-divert the main pipe water and they're working to resolve the issue.
