00:00Donald Trump has made history as only the second U.S. president to win re-election after
00:04being voted out of office.
00:05This was a movement like nobody's ever seen before.
00:09The campaign was notably divisive, and reactions from media commentators have ranged from jubilant
00:14to bereft.
00:15People who woke up this morning with a dream and are going to bed with a nightmare.
00:20But whether they support Trump's re-election or not, political leaders from across the
00:24globe have to face the reality of dealing with his new administration in 2025.
00:28And they've been lining up to show they accept the result in the spirit of international
00:31cooperation.
00:32This was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time.
00:38There's never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond.
00:41U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised Trump's historic election victory and reiterated the
00:46special relationship between the U.S. and the U.K., posting to X,
00:49We stand shoulder-to-shoulder in defense of our shared values of freedom, democracy, and
00:53enterprise."
00:54Similar messages were posted by other leaders from across the globe, including French President
00:59Emmanuel Macron, who said he was
01:01"...ready to work together as we did for four years," on X.
01:04Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has relied on military support of Western
01:08allies since the Russian invasion of his country in 2022, congratulated Trump on his, quote,
01:14impressive election victory, writing,
01:15I appreciate President Trump's commitment to the peace-through-strength approach in
01:19global affairs.
01:20He added that he hoped a Trump administration could help bring just peace to the war-torn
01:24country.
01:25Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin apparently has no plans to congratulate Trump
01:29publicly.
01:30Trump has notably praised the dictator many times and has reportedly spoken to him on
01:33several occasions in the years since leaving the White House.
01:36Nevertheless, as Newsweek reported, a key Putin ally described the result as, quote,
01:40"...useful for us."
01:41At home, the news of Trump's historic victory has been met with jubilation from his supporters.
01:46We won by putting together the most diverse coalition of American voters in modern history.
01:51This is the best day for America that there ever was.
01:55Another person who appeared to be decisive to Trump's 2024 campaign is billionaire backer
01:58Elon Musk.
01:59He's a character.
02:00He's a special guy.
02:01He's a super genius.
02:02We have to protect our geniuses.
02:04We don't have that many of them.
02:06The controversial figure made several public appearances and countless social media posts
02:09on Axe, the platform he owns, in support of the nominee.
02:13Alongside a picture of a rocket, the SpaceX CEO posted,
02:15The future is going to be fantastic.
02:18He also posted,
02:19Let that sink in alongside a crudely photoshopped image of himself carrying a sink into the
02:22Oval Office, referencing a similar post he made after buying Twitter.
02:26Others were less buoyant.
02:28Former United States Representative Liz Cheney was one of several senior Republican figures
02:32who had backed Kamala Harris.
02:34In a post on Axe, she urged Americans to accept the result, writing,
02:37We now have a special responsibility as citizens of the greatest nation on Earth to do everything
02:42we can to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that
02:47our institutions hold over these coming four years.
02:50The stunning result represents a rebirth for the real estate mogul and former reality
02:54TV star.
02:55After his supporters rioted in the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, in an attempt
02:59to stop a transfer of power to Joe Biden, some commentators believed his political career
03:03was over.
03:04When a presidential debate proved disastrous for Biden, he stepped aside and let Vice President
03:09Kamala Harris take over the 2024 Democratic ticket.
03:12Following an initial bump in numbers, the polls appeared to tighten before Election
03:15Day, with experts saying the race was too close to call.
03:19This is certainly one of the closest election races in U.S. history.
03:22As the smoke clears, it seems that polls failed to reveal what appears to be a sizable victory
03:26for Trump in both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
