00:00The world within these walls was inconceivable.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're explaining the shocking crimes of Jeffrey Epstein
00:09and the latest developments surrounding the late financier.
00:12Warning, certain information contains distressing details.
00:16He does nasty things to his best friend's best friend's wives.
00:21Who is Jeffrey Epstein?
00:23To grasp the full scope of Jeffrey Epstein's infamous crimes,
00:27it's important to first look at his background.
00:29Born on January 20, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York,
00:33Epstein was raised in the working-class neighborhood of Seagate in Coney Island.
00:37Nicknamed Bear by his parents, Epstein grew up with a younger brother
00:41and was described as, quote,
00:45Following his schooling, he began teaching at Manhattan's elite Dalton School.
00:49However, reports suggest Epstein often pursued female students during his tenure.
00:54This was probably the start of Epstein's lifelong pattern of getting away with things
00:59that most people can't.
01:01After being dismissed for, quote,
01:03he joined Bear Stearns, an investment and brokerage firm,
01:07where he quickly rose to advise wealthy clients.
01:09By 1981, Epstein had left to start his own consulting firm.
01:14And by 1988, he founded J. Epstein & Company, aimed at serving billionaires.
01:19In the 80s, he hit it out of the ballpark.
01:22A lot of powerful men liked him and trusted him to handle his money.
01:25Over time, Epstein expanded his portfolio by investing in several media ventures
01:30and high-profile hedge funds.
01:32Epstein would go on to have a romantic relationship with socialite Glenn Maxwell
01:36in the early 90s.
01:38By most accounts, they're boyfriend and girlfriend.
01:41I mean, I use that term pretty loosely because certainly they had a very open relationship.
01:45The pair rubbed shoulders with some of the world's most influential figures.
01:49Maxwell remained closely associated with Epstein until his death in 2019.
01:55She did say to me,
01:57the reason Jeffrey keeps me around is I don't make mistakes.
02:02He was a narcissist.
02:05He had no ability to feel empathy.
02:09Jeffrey Epstein's crimes revolved around a vast network of exploitation
02:13and targeting vulnerable young girls.
02:15In 2005, police in Palm Beach, Florida began investigating Epstein
02:20after a parent reported that he had violated her teenage daughter.
02:23It was an incident that occurred maybe like three, three and a half weeks ago
02:26with one of my stepdaughters.
02:27This investigation unearthed a pattern of luring vulnerable young girls
02:31to his various residences under the guise of them providing massages,
02:34only for things to escalate into unlawful sexual encounters.
02:38They basically turned victims into prostitutes.
02:42These were girls with absolutely no history and no past.
02:46To brand them that in a plea with him was just,
02:49for lack of a better term, disgusting.
02:51The girls were often promised money, education,
02:54and career opportunities for their services.
02:56This is how Jeffrey Epstein created a sexual pyramid scheme.
03:01Although evidence pointed towards multiple victims
03:04and a potential trafficking operation,
03:06Epstein secured a highly controversial plea deal in 2008.
03:10He pleaded guilty to two state charges,
03:12solicitation of prostitution and procuring a person under 18 for prostitution.
03:18This deal, widely criticized for its leniency,
03:21resulted in an 18-month sentence,
03:23of which he served only around 13 months in a private wing of a county jail
03:28with liberal work-release privileges.
03:30It was outrageous.
03:32That's when we learned for the first time,
03:34there's not a deal about to happen.
03:36A deal actually already happened.
03:38It's already done.
03:39The case is over.
03:41Years later, renewed scrutiny and continued investigations
03:45led to federal charges.
03:46In 2019, Epstein was arrested and indicted on charges of trafficking teens
03:51and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking,
03:54facing accusations involving dozens of victims.
03:57The investigation also included his associates and alleged co-conspirators,
04:02notably Ghislaine Maxwell,
04:03who was subsequently convicted of trafficking charges
04:06related to her involvement in the crimes.
04:08It was vast.
04:09It was significant.
04:10It harmed literally hundreds of young women.
04:13Epstein and Maxwell also faced a flurry of civil lawsuits from victims.
04:18Epstein Island
04:19One of the most notorious aspects of Epstein's life was his private island,
04:23often referred to as Epstein Island or Little St. James.
04:26The approximate 72-acre land in the U.S. Virgin Islands
04:30featured an 18,000-square-foot mansion,
04:32swimming pools, private beach, helipad, and other luxurious amenities.
04:37Epstein purchased the island in 1998,
04:40and invested heavily in renovating and expanding the property.
04:43The island was often referred to as a, quote,
04:46private paradise and, quote,
04:47love nest,
04:48where Epstein entertained high-profile guests.
04:51Flight logs show that numerous prominent figures,
04:53including politicians, businessmen, and celebrities,
04:56visited the island over the years.
04:58It has hosted American politicians, world dignitaries.
05:03It is widely believed that the island was used as a hub for his trafficking operation,
05:07where Epstein would bring victims to engage in illicit acts with him
05:11and, allegedly, his guests.
05:13Today, ABC News right there as the FBI and NYPD
05:18raided Jeffrey Epstein's private island in the Caribbean,
05:21a task force from the Southern District of New York.
05:24However, definitive evidence linking specific visitors
05:27directly to criminal activities has been limited,
05:30with many questions about the true actions on the island remaining unanswered.
05:34Death
05:35ABC News learning it's unlikely there's surveillance video
05:38showing the moment he died.
05:39On August 10th, 2019,
05:42Jeffrey Epstein was found deceased in his prison cell
05:45at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City while awaiting trial.
05:48Authorities ruled his passing the result of Epstein taking his own life.
05:52However, his sudden death sparked numerous suspicions,
05:56as many pointed out failures in the jail's surveillance and security protocols.
06:00We are now learning of serious irregularities at this facility
06:04that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation.
06:09Those protocols mandated that Epstein have a cellmate
06:12and that checks be conducted every 30 minutes.
06:15These were not followed on the night of his death.
06:17Why wasn't anyone watching Epstein in jail?
06:20How was he allowed to take his own life?
06:22With the inclusion of malfunctioned cameras,
06:24the circumstances of Epstein's demise have raised serious concerns
06:28and remains a contentious topic with no shortage of theories
06:32around whether foul play was involved.
06:34I think it's the never-ending story.
06:35Did he kill himself?
06:37Was he killed?
06:38Was there a hit-out?
06:39Did, you know, one of these powerful men pay a prison guard to kill him?
06:43As for Ghislaine Maxwell,
06:45she was sentenced to 20 years in jail for assisting Epstein.
06:48Her appeal against the conviction has since been rejected by a U.S. court.
06:53The Epstein List.
06:54Just some of the famous names among a list of 150
06:58revealed overnight in newly unsealed court papers.
07:02Unsealed court documents in January 2024
07:05from a lawsuit filed by Virginia Jouffre against Epstein and Maxwell
07:09revealed several high-profile associations with Epstein.
07:12Magician David Copperfield was mentioned six times,
07:15with accuser Johanna Schoberg stating that Copperfield
07:17had dined with Epstein multiple times,
07:20often with young girls present.
07:21He allegedly performed magic tricks for Epstein
07:24and several of his victims during a dinner
07:27at Epstein's townhouse in New York City in 2016.
07:30The documents also reveal that Epstein trafficked victims
07:33to influential figures for, quote,
07:35business, political and financial gain.
07:38Includes references to familiar names,
07:40from politicians to celebrities.
07:42Victim Jane Doe No. 3 alleged she was sent to powerful individuals,
07:47including an unnamed prime minister,
07:49and was asked to recount details of the encounters to Epstein.
07:53That Maxwell directed her to have sexual contact with people,
07:56including former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson,
08:00Prince Andrew, and tech guru Marvin Minsky.
08:03And while Prince Andrew's close ties to Epstein
08:06and allegations of inappropriate behavior have always been alleged,
08:09Schoberg testified that Prince Andrew touched her inappropriately.
08:13Jane Doe No. 3 also said she was forced into relations
08:16with the prince while she was a minor.
08:18No, nothing.
08:20Doesn't, never happened.
08:22Epstein's housekeeper, also in a Florida court legal deposition,
08:25said that you visited the Palm Beach residence
08:28around four times a year.
08:30One of the more startling claims involved physicist Stephen Hawking,
08:34whom Epstein reportedly hosted at a 2006 Virgin Islands event.
08:38The highly anticipated documents also mentioned
08:41theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.
08:44An email Epstein sent referenced Hawking being part of a, quote,
08:48underage orgy.
08:49Bill Clinton's name appeared frequently in the documents,
08:52but was not implicated in any illegal acts.
08:55However, Epstein allegedly commented to Schoberg
08:58that the former president, quote, likes them young.
09:01She is asked, did Jeffrey ever talk to you about Bill Clinton?
09:06She responds, he said one time that Clinton likes them young.

09:27Released audio clips about Donald Trump.
09:29Recorded in August 2017 during interviews for author Michael Wolff's
09:33book Fire and Fury, newly released audio tapes are providing
09:37insights into Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump's supposed
09:40complex relationship.
09:41Despite being a known offender at the time,
09:44Epstein spoke openly, calling Trump his, quote,
09:47closest friend for 10 years.
09:49While he described Trump as, quote, charming,
09:51he also labeled him, quote, a horrible human being.
09:55Epstein likened Trump's charisma to that of Bill Clinton,
09:59saying both men, quote, tell everybody what they want to hear.
10:02Both Bill and Donald have the ability to go over to a fat,
10:07ugly woman and say, you are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
10:11He also accused Trump of doing nasty things to his best friends
10:15and, quote, his best friend's mother.
10:17Trump's mother, who is a former lawyer,
10:19said that Trump's mother, who is a former lawyer,
10:22Trump's team dismissed the remarks as, quote, false smears.
10:25And Wolff has faced criticism for withholding the tapes until now,
10:29as well as his timing in releasing them days before the US election.
