00:00The consequences of poor governance, the consequences of financial mismanagement
00:04are now 200-plus announced job losses.
00:08Shame!
00:10Now we need to be very clear that these cuts are dramatic, these cuts are traumatic.
00:15These are cuts that have a deep effect on people that we know
00:19and people we care about, members of our community.
00:22They're also incredibly inefficient.
00:25Every time universities do this they need to spend
00:28millions and millions of dollars on redundancies.
00:32What we want is to make sure that something like this never happens again
00:37and to prevent the damage that we know taking 200 people out of UC will undoubtedly do.
00:44At least one in five staff are going to be made redundant involuntarily.
00:48At the moment there's no voluntary redundancies, it's only involuntary.
00:52We accept that there are going to be redundancies,
00:54that's not going to happen because of the budget situation.
00:57But what we really want is for this not to happen again
01:00and that's why we're seeking an inquiry into governance at the University of Canberra
01:03at the ACT Assembly level.
01:05And the Greens and the Labor Party have agreed to do that before the election
01:08so we're expecting it to happen.
