01:10The state also grows a lot of cotton. It's the nation's second biggest producer of the crop.
01:22It was here that the cotton gin was invented in 1793, a machine to separate the fibers from the seeds.
01:30The cotton gin transformed agriculture in the south and fueled the slave trade.
01:36Today, one-third of Georgians are African-American.
01:40In recent decades, Georgia backed the Republican presidential candidate, including Donald Trump, in 2016.

02:44And polls indicate another close contest this year for the state's 16 electoral college votes.
