00:00I know Danny a little bit and he's a lot like his dad, you know, I saw his dad coach around
00:10here many times and his dad, you know, I think his dad had the hardest practices I've ever
00:18seen in my life from a basketball coach.
00:20I've never quite seen anything like it and but his team's never lost.
00:26And then I saw Danny's practice.
00:28I saw it the other day, I've never actually watched him practice and I saw him running
00:35a practice for about an hour and he's crazy.
00:38I mean this guy is crazy.
00:42He's way more insane than his dad was and his practices are I mean I've never seen anything
00:49like it like it's a who's can survive it like not only the players but the assistants he
00:57screaming it down like the guys that work for him.
01:00He said there's no room for like that.
01:03It's the ultimate job and don't plan on sleeping.
01:07If you work here, it's like a 24-7 365 job.
01:11It's insane screaming and yelling and cussing at players throwing balls around not at them
01:18like rice did but throwing them everywhere else kicking them smashing them on the floor
01:24cussing screaming and it the season was like a you know, three weeks away and he's already
01:30a lunatic.
01:31Have you ever seen anything like it?
01:32Oh, I've been in a few practices where guys were on the edge.
01:37Absolutely.
01:38I've not been in a Bob Knight practice, but I've I have some coaches who were hard to
01:45play for but not necessarily hard in practice to play for but eventually they would you
01:51can't do that and not be really good with your players.
01:54Your players have to believe you care about them.
01:57They have to know you care about them.
01:59They have to know that you have their best interest at heart.
02:01If you're going to push that hard and you also have to know who you can push and how
02:04you can push them and Dan clearly does because you don't win two titles in a row not knowing
02:09which guys can take being hammered verbally and which guys which guys can't don't feel
02:18good about it.
02:19There are certain players that just if you're really hard on them, it causes them to lose
02:24confidence and you don't want that.
02:27So he knows how to how to measure each guy how it works and that's why he's had so much
02:33success over the years going all the way back to his time at Wagner and on the way up through
02:38Rhode Island and now two national championships at UConn is a tremendous coach and you have
02:45to be one of the players who wants to play for a coach like that.
02:49Guys you have to want to play for is so you had to want to play for Huggins back in the
02:52day or night back in the day and some guys got in there as you know back way before the
02:57transfer portal with with Bob Knight and said you know what this isn't for me.
03:02We know a lot of players got in there and said that but not very many guys are leaving
03:07UConn.
03:08They feel like he cares about them and whatever you saw apparently it's not so much that it
03:16pushes the buttons that says there's the remember he's he's coaching in an age when
03:21anybody can leave at any time and begin playing not long after that and they're still sticking
03:26around.
