00:00What is going to happen in the next 24 laps?
00:02It's lights out, away we go, and Lando Norris gets away slightly better than Oskar Piastri,
00:07who moves over to cover that inside line.
00:09Piastri leads into the first turn from Norris, Verstappen's trying down the inside,
00:13but he can't get past Lando Norris, and he can't get past the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc,
00:18so he has to stick in fourth place, and they all sail through.
00:21And the Senna S's, although the two Haases, getting a little bit squirrelly, Hulkenberg and Berman.
00:26That wasn't a very compliant team order.
00:27Messy move there from Oskar Piastri, immediately defending the inside line,
00:32and he's broken away a few car lengths.
00:34Sweet ride on board with Max Verstappen now,
00:37heading from Junxsau to the first corner, 1.2 kilometers,
00:41full throttle, absolute blast.
00:43Verstappen's in place to try and challenge around the outside,
00:46and a turn one, but the inside line covered by the Ferrari.
00:49Charles Leclerc fends him off, but for how much longer?
00:52Take your time, Max.
00:53And you know the game.
00:56Time that we can watch the start again.
00:58So, you see, just off the line, both McLarens made decent starts.
01:04Similar starts, I'd say.
01:05Leclerc probably got a better launch,
01:06but Piastri went immediately to cover the inside line.
01:10Hamilton was hung out on the outside there, Crofty,
01:13behind the Haas car, had to check himself back out of it,
01:16and that allowed the Red Bull of Sergio Perez to get in front,
01:21running down towards turn four.
01:23And this is, we've cut now to the inside.
01:25Yeah, what we can't see here is the lock-up from Max Verstappen.
01:28It was quite a big lock-up going into turn one.
01:30For a moment, I think he felt there was a gap.
01:32There's the lock-up.
01:33Lot of tire smoking from Max Verstappen.
01:37That then compromised him coming out of that first turn
01:39and allowed Charles Leclerc to stay ahead.
01:41So, we're looking back from George Russell's car at the Haas there,
01:46and he's sort of a meat in the sandwich.
01:48Olli Bergman riding on board with him.
01:49He's got his teammate to the left,
01:52and, oh, had a snap of oversteer.
01:54That's what hurt his run coming down the straight.
01:57And look at how much momentum Hulkenberg pulled,
02:00and then Perez got ahead as well.
02:02Out in front, we're watching the live pictures as well.
02:05I think this is smart work from the McLaren pair here.
02:07Oscar Piastri isn't disappearing off into the distance.
02:10What he is doing is keeping Lando Norris very much behind him
02:13in DRS range as well,
02:15and helping his pace and protecting him from Charles Leclerc.
02:18Yeah, Leclerc's playing it smart, right?
02:19He's like,
02:20yeah, I'm close.
02:23Okay, understood.
02:26The subtext of that is,
02:28right, my turn to get in front now and get him out of the way.
02:30And Lando, we understand, just keeping Leclerc behind.
02:35Don't worry about Oscar too much.
02:37I think McLaren have their plan very much in place for today.
02:41I'm not sure what I'm doing here.
02:43Maybe I thought he spoke about himself.
02:48I think that's what Lando was talking about.
02:50That was close with Piastri,
02:52you know, showing that if he is going to let Lando Norris through,
02:55it's probably going to be towards the end of the sprint.
02:57He's sending a message out, isn't he?
02:58Saying,
02:58Hi, Lando, understood.
02:59Keep doing what you're doing.
03:02Yeah, whatever.
03:04And here comes Sergio Perez looking once more
03:07for an opportunity to get past the hassle of Oli Behrmann.
03:10Behrmann was much closer to his teammate, Nico Hülkenberg.
03:14He's got the DRS behind him.
03:16In fact, Behrmann has got ahead of Nico Hülkenberg.
03:19And Sergio Perez is going down the inside here.
03:22Wonderful move into Desilio de Lago.
03:24And Sergio Perez up into 10th place.
03:26And let's have a look at how Oli Behrmann got past Nico Hülkenberg.
03:30Towards Turn 1 we go.
03:32An amazing pace for Oli Behrmann.
03:34It all opened up for him down the inside.
03:36Hülkenberg was very generous with him there.
03:38I thought, you know, he was a long way behind.
03:41And Hülkenberg just stayed on the racing line.
03:44Didn't try and defend it at all.
03:46And just, yeah, just made it easy for him.
03:48But in the end, that hurt his run, as they say, the exit.
03:51And allowed Perez to get past as well.
03:54Towards Desilio de Lago.
03:56Here we go on this short straight.
03:58Rear wing open for Verstappen.
03:59Giving him extra pace.
04:00But he's a car length too shy of being able to squeeze down the inside.
04:05Oh, come on, chance man.
04:06So many mistakes.
04:08Just keep calm.
04:09Now's your chance, mate.
04:11He should be pleased if a driver's making mistakes.
04:14That allows an opportunity, doesn't it?
04:16At the front.
04:17It takes me back to all those conversations, doesn't it?
04:20With the gap to Leclerc at the moment,
04:22we're happy, if we can, to hold these positions until the last lap.
04:27There we go.
04:28Will Joseph confirming what I was saying before,
04:31which is, if you were Piastri,
04:33you probably said, okay, I'll support you.
04:35But I'm going to send the message that I could have won Oscar Piastri in 11.7.
04:39Here we go, Crofty.
04:40Yeah, forget that for a moment.
04:41Because here comes Max Verstappen.
04:43And he's going to have to go down the inside, I think, at Desilio de Lago.
04:46Charles Leclerc has covered that off.
04:47But Charles Leclerc hasn't got the pace to keep Verstappen at bay.
04:51And he swoops around the outside before the corner.
04:53And Max Verstappen moves up into third place.
04:56And the crowd rather like that.
04:57We're on board with Sergio Perez, who's down in ninth place.
05:00And he still fancies trying to get past Dakar in front.
05:03That's Liam Lawson, who tried to cover it off very, very late.
05:06And then realized he wasn't going to cover that off at all.
05:09And thought, no, I better back out before we get a few problems here.
05:13And, as you say, up into 12th place.
05:17And let's have a little look at what happened here.
05:18Franco Colopinto was looking to make a move.
05:22That compromised him somewhat.
05:24You can see the Williams, whoa, getting really, really slidey
05:27through the curve at Assault.
05:28Probably the easiest move Hamilton's ever made
05:30in terms of an overtake at Interlagos.
05:32Interlagos turn four.
05:33Didn't really catch the end of that.
05:35But he's parked off the track.
05:38Here comes Hamilton on Oli Behrmann, down into turn one.
05:41There he goes.
05:43And Hamilton now up into 11th place.
05:45Nice move.
05:46We've got double yellows being waived
05:48from where Nico Holkenberg has parked up
05:50on the exit of Bico de Pato.
05:51Does it need a safety car to remove that stranded Haas?
05:57Or has he managed to get it going again?
05:59Or is that just because he's going downhill?
06:00I think he's just trying to roll to a safe parking spot there.
06:03He's looking for where to go.
06:05But he's off the track in a relatively slow part of the circuit.
06:09This might be the opportunity for McLaren now.
06:12Or they need to take the opportunity if they're going to switch.
06:15Because if you get a safety car, they can't switch it.
06:17And I think that message has got through to Lando Norris
06:21and to Oskar Piastri to swap positions.
06:23They couldn't risk it any longer.
06:24A safety car would neutralize the race.
06:26No chance to make that switch.
06:28And it's now happened.
06:29But it has put Oskar Piastri right into the clutches of Max Verstappen.
06:34What Lando Norris needs to do now
06:36is to make sure his teammate has got that DRS.
06:39As we've got a virtual safety car.
06:42And that might just finish the race behind the virtual safety car.
06:46And will certainly ease the stress levels going on
06:51in the young man from Melbourne's cockpit.
06:54And give Lando Norris this win as well.
06:57Nico Hülkenberg out after parking up his car.
07:01Pay attention to this.
07:02Because if his grip is driving slow, report it.
07:07Yeah, he's talking about Oskar Piastri.
07:10And a little bit worried that he might be building a gap
07:12that he isn't allowed to build to Lando Norris.
07:15The virtual safety car is ending.
07:17But where's it ending?
07:18And it might be ending at exactly the wrong time for Oskar Piastri.
07:22Verstappen still under his delta.
07:24And it now goes green.
07:25And I tell you what, two seconds earlier,
07:27Max Verstappen would have been passed.
07:30Oskar Piastri there.
07:31That ended at just the right moment for the McLaren.
07:35Frustration, I'm sure, for Max Verstappen.
07:3724 laps in Sao Paulo.
07:39He started from the front row.
07:41He's going to finish as the winner.
07:43Lando Norris wins the sprint.
07:45His teammate, Oskar Piastri, from pole,
07:48completes a one-two for McLaren.
07:51Max Verstappen in third, getting past Charles Leclerc
07:54and making up one place in the sprint.
07:56Carlos Sainz started and finished fifth.
07:59George Russell finishes sixth and was really never in it.
08:03Well done, Oskar.
08:04Great job.
08:05And massive support to the team as well.
08:07So a big fan of your work today.
08:10Really good.
08:11Yeah, well done, everyone.
08:14Good day for the team.
08:15And yeah, I think a little bit of pace is fine,
08:18but well done, everyone.
