Proactive measures have been taken to ensure a stable fish landing supply ahead of the upcoming northeast monsoon season, says Datuk Adnan Hussain.

Speaking to reporters at the World Fisheries Day 2024 celebration launch at Anjung Floria in Putrajaya on Saturday (Nov 2), the Fisheries Department director-general noted that the department is actively monitoring and regulating the fish supply nationwide to maintain stability amid an anticipated dip in landings during the monsoon transition phase.

00:00The monsoon season will come, so Dato has said that monitoring is being done.
00:07But maybe before the fishing day, what are the topics that have been discussed for this event related to fish?
00:16Okay, about fish?
00:19Yes.
00:20Okay, about fish.
00:22If we look at the statement from the Minister himself, he said that, God willing, in this monsoon season,
00:29the Ministry of Agriculture has taken early steps to ensure that fish supplies are always sufficient.
00:35And even though the monsoon happened on the east coast, but the fishing activities on the west coast still happened.
00:42So fishermen in Zone A, B and C and also C2 from Pak Rampelis to Jokoh on the west coast can still operate.
00:51But the fishing activities on the east coast were slightly affected when the monsoon happened,
00:55especially from November to March.
00:57And we, as the Ministry of Fisheries, are also making efforts to compensate for the shortcomings through aquaculture activities.
01:06We have 21,000 people involved in aquaculture activities.
01:10And this aquaculture activity will slightly compensate for the shortage of fish supplies in the monsoon season.
01:18And we expect that the supply of fish is still sufficient,
01:21but there is a possibility that there will be a slight increase in prices in certain areas
01:26due to a slightly high demand and a slight decrease in supplies.
01:30So will there be monitoring to increase prices?
01:34Yes, we will continue to monitor this increase in prices.
01:38And if necessary, the Ministry of Agriculture through the agencies below,
01:44will intervene to reduce what may happen.
