Rene Meulensteen fears there are too many similarities between Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag
Transcript
00:00Well, the thing is that I'm having a little bit of a careful approach, to be fairly honest, Rob,
00:07because I see a lot of similarities when Man United got excited about Den Haag, right?
00:14Ajax played a good style of football, you know, nice to watch, did really well, won the league,
00:20did really well in Europe, blah-di-blah-di-blah.
00:23You see the same thing with Amorim, young player, not that much of experience,
00:27he obviously has got a clear idea how he wants to play and he's been able to put that up onto the sporting
00:33and made him a successful team, but Portugal and the Dutch league are very similar.
00:39You know, like in Holland you've got Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, in Porto you've got Sporting, Benfica and Porto,
00:46and that is about it, and the rest, with those teams, you can just turn up and win the games.
00:51You basically dominate possession, 70-75%, free-flowing football, not a problem.
00:56But if you walk in, again, like Amorim, and you can have the best ideas of what you want and tactically
01:02and all this, that, the other, number one, he's walking into a different competition,
01:06a different league, which is the Premier League, which is the hardest league in the world,
01:10I think that everybody understands.
01:12You walk in and probably one of the biggest clubs, in terms of size and brand,
01:20with the biggest amount of scrutiny that is going to come with it,
01:24so you need to be able to handle that off the pitch, massively.
01:28He walks into a team that is not his.
01:30He walks into a team without pre-season, right?
01:34So every game, straight away, is playing for something, whether it's league, cup or in Europe.
01:41So he has to hit the ground running.
