00:00Alright, I think you'll like this one here. When people achieve success, often the first thing they do is leave behind the old neighborhood.
00:06But not DJ Quick. When Keith O'Derek show us in Straight From The Streets, this rapper gets his inspiration from the hood.
00:13I work with 2nd and 9, AMG, Eazy-E, Hi-C, Snoop, Dog Pound.
00:24Why did you feel the need to come out and come from the perspective that you have?
00:39Because it's real. P-Folk is just as real as that other thing I did. From this side.
00:46We doing it like this, and it ain't no different. We all black. Just for some stupid reason people choose to make it territorial.
00:59I ain't tripping on none of these other fellas. It's real. If they show me respect, give me that, you can have on blue contacts.
01:09Just be real with me and I'll be real with you. It's that simple. And it ain't no set tripping.
01:15Say, for instance, we all get moved out of here. Where I'm going to go? Where I'm going to go for my inspiration?
01:21To write the songs that I do? Where am I going to go? Where am I going to look?
01:25They culturing my culture. They meaning me. And everybody culture that ain't black.
01:35Quick raps about the things that's going on in the neighborhood. And a lot of people think that that's negative, but that's how it is here in this neighborhood.
01:41How does it feel helping get moms out of the ghetto and stuff like that?
01:46I tell you like this, it ain't no feeling that money can buy. When I'm sitting on the chip, I feel good that I worked for it.
01:53But it ain't nothing like spending it on something worthwhile, like the smile on your mama's face when she know she ain't got to be in here bailing out water
02:00because the sink is stopped up because I can get somebody in there to unstop the sink and she got a garbage disposal.
02:04It's the bomb. It's the flyest feeling.
02:07What would you say to those who are trying to ban rap and hip hop?
02:11Well, the reason it ain't going to happen is because on a media standpoint, it's only going to go as far as y'all let it go.
02:20But rap will always be a voice in the community, in the ghetto, because we know how to get it when we need it from just being strong in the streets.
02:31We ain't got to always go to Tower Records or the Warehouse Records to get the word. And most of the times, it ain't there.
02:36It's right here in the dead end through underground tapes. That's how I start and that's how I'm going to finish.
02:47It's all to the good. We're going to keep it like this. We're going to keep it real.
03:01It's all to the good. We're going to keep it real.
