How probationary police constable Tevita Tuivaga rescued a kangaroo from drowning
Transcript
00:00One of the inspectors saw the kangaroo jump in the water from the wharf
00:04and unfortunately it's just like it became a job and I ended up being the one going on the boat.
00:10We caught a bunch of fishermen that was in the middle and they came over picked me up and we
00:16were following this kangaroo along this whole waters here and I grabbed it by its back.
00:24Another bloke that was driving the boat he picked it up from the legs and then
00:28we lured it all the way back to the oyster sheds. How easy is it to grab a kangaroo?
00:34It's not easy it's pretty hard yeah pretty hard. This one was panicking
00:40so and he was drowning so he was tired so he didn't know whether he wanted to come on the
00:45boat or not so we just grabbed it from the water and we grabbed it all the way back here.
00:50Saw a kangaroo in the car park at the ramp looked like he didn't sort of know where he wanted to be
00:59we left him and then what would it be a half hour 40 minutes later
01:05we ended up getting called over by the police to apparently there was a kangaroo in the river so
01:09we knew which one it was and ended up taking one of the officers up the river and basically
01:14try and get him ashore because he's right out in the middle there floating up there with the current.
01:19How do you get a kangaroo ashore? With great difficulty it turns out yeah it wasn't easy
01:26a bit of rope we had some rope on the boat and you know all of us kind of holding different limbs
01:30and trying not to get kicked too much and trying to keep him as calm as possible.
01:36What became of the kangaroo? He's on the bank right now resting up so I think he's still in
01:41a bit of shock and I think he's just resting before he realized you know where he wants to go
01:46I think he's getting his energy back I think he burned up a bit.
