The European Commission president told reporters in Brussels that the EU will assist in coordinating rescue efforts through its Copernicus geo-monitoring satellite system.

00:00As Spanish rescue services continue to deal with the devastating impact of flash floods,
00:09European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has offered EU support.
00:14The rescue teams are working tirelessly to bring as many as possible to safety
00:21and Europe is ready to help.
00:24We have activated our Copernicus satellite system to help coordinate the rescue teams
00:31and we have already offered to activate our civil protection mechanism.
00:36Both King Felipe and Spain's Prime Minister also made public statements,
00:40offering condolences to the victims and their families.
00:44Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, however, stressed that the episode was not over yet.
00:49I ask those who live there to take extreme precautions,
00:53as well as all safety measures,
00:55not to go out on the road,
00:57to avoid passing near ravines, dams, and streams,
01:01and to comply with the recommendations of the emergency services
01:06and, of course, the forces and security forces of the State.
01:10In short, no one should risk their lives.
01:14Dozens have died following Tuesday's floods
01:17and storms are forecast to continue until Thursday.
