00:00It is not impossible for the Philippines to reach the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.
00:05According to United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed,
00:09which I exclusively interviewed,
00:11the SDGs have 17 goals for the peace and prosperity of the countries
00:17through addressing the problems of poverty, hunger, education,
00:23protecting the environment, and others.
00:26Let's watch.
00:31In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.
00:38These include zero hunger, gender equality, quality education, climate protection, and others.
00:45The Philippines is the 72nd out of 167 countries to reach the SDG score,
00:52one of the lowest in ASEAN.
00:55In an exclusive interview with GMA Integrated News,
00:57UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed,
01:00who is in the Philippines for the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security,
01:04she said that the Philippines is not alone in the difficulty of reaching the SDG
01:09due to the COVID pandemic and other factors such as the climate crisis and war in Ukraine.
01:17The world is not doing well.
01:18It's not just the Philippines.
01:19We have a terrible score of 17% of the SDGs globally.
01:23What has really constrained countries for not achieving the SDGs has been the international finance.
01:30I see the potential for the Philippines to do much better,
01:33but it needs also the support of the international community.
01:37Mohammed believes that it is not impossible for the Philippines to reach the SDGs.
01:42I'm very optimistic that you will go far.
01:45There are a number of challenges that you have ahead.
01:48Reforms have to be owned and they have to be consolidated upon.
01:52It's important that we look at all the communities.
02:13Multilateralism still works and it's still very important to our global family
02:20being able to have a voice for their concerns, for the opportunities, for the challenges,
02:25a space where there is a light on all issues.
02:29Without us having that space to continue to try to do that, it would be much worse.
