00:00:30Can't you be a little more quiet?
00:00:38How are we going to catch anything, you clodding around out here?
00:00:47You hear that?
00:00:48I heard something.
00:00:49Did you see it?
00:00:50Wind, maybe.
00:01:03Maybe.
00:01:15It's nothing.
00:01:16Hey, give me a beer.
00:01:17I don't know why I take you on these trips anyway.
00:01:34You chase all the game away.
00:01:35I ain't no louder than you.
00:01:36What was that?
00:01:37Nothing, Red.
00:01:38I ain't beaten up by it.
00:01:39You're getting as bad as my wife.
00:01:47Maybe you need an attitude adjustment.
00:01:50God, this beer runs right through me.
00:03:43You're getting as bad as my wife.
00:03:49I ain't beaten up by it.
00:03:55You're getting as bad as my wife.
00:04:01Maybe you need an attitude adjustment.
00:04:08When you're walking away.
00:04:12On and on.
00:04:18Walk away.
00:04:24You know it's time to turn around and take yourself straight back to the places where
00:04:32you've been.
00:04:33Oh.
00:04:34Hello?
00:04:35Virginia?
00:04:36Hey, Aunt Dolores.
00:04:37I was just about to call you.
00:04:38Oh, we can't thank you enough for letting us use the cabin.
00:04:39Oh, don't mention it.
00:04:40Nobody's been up there for years.
00:04:41Glad I got a hold of you before you lost reception.
00:04:42Oh, actually, no cell phones is part of the charm for me and Jack.
00:04:43A week with nobody to talk to but each other could do us some good.
00:04:44There isn't proper electricity for the cabin, but there is a little generator.
00:04:45Might need to get some gas.
00:04:46There's a country store not too far from the cabin.
00:04:47Good to know.
00:04:48All right.
00:04:49Well, have a good day.

00:05:38That's right.
00:05:39That's right.
00:05:40That's right.
00:05:41Sit right up here.
00:05:42Huh.
00:05:43Come on.
00:05:44Hello.
00:05:45Hello.
00:05:46Hey, I have a dog with me.
00:05:47Is it OK?
00:05:48I won't bite if he wants.
00:05:49Great.
00:05:50Come on in.
00:05:51Well, who do we have here?
00:05:52This is Larry.
00:05:53Good boy.
00:05:54have here? This is Larry. Boy, such a fine looking dog. Who are the lucky owners of
00:06:04such a fine animal? Oh, sorry, I'm Virginia. Pleasure to meet you. This is my husband
00:06:09Jack. I'm John. Nice to meet you. Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way,
00:06:13what can I help you with? Well, actually we're only gonna get a couple of things
00:06:17today, but we're gonna be staying in the area, so I wanted to see what you have
00:06:20in stock. Not just passing through? We have a cabin. Actually, it's not too far
00:06:27from here. I went to my uncle, Ran Marston. Marston place, huh? Good old Ran. Oh, I miss
00:06:35having him around. We used to go hunting. Dolores still up right? She was a
00:06:41looker back in the day. Yeah, she's still kicking. She lives in Florida now. Good
00:06:47for her. No more snow. Their place is pretty isolated. You might want to keep
00:06:53an eye on Larry here. A lot of folks been losing their pets here about. Livestock
00:06:58too. Just keep an eye on him until he gets used to the surroundings. Thank you,
00:07:04I will. We take care of each other, don't we baby? You probably already figured.
00:07:08There's no cell phone reception for miles, but we have a landline in the back if you
00:07:13need it. That's so sweet of you.
00:07:18You like meat? It's fresh. One of the boys just slaughtered it the other night.
00:07:24Anyway, excuse me.
00:07:32That's what I thought. Let's just get out of here.
00:07:38Speaking of which, what kind of dog food do you have in stock? We keep the dry in the
00:07:44back and the cans are on the shelves over there. Take the dry. Make yourself
00:07:49useful.
00:07:51It's right back here.
00:07:55Hey, come on. Hold up, hold up. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What? We're on vacation. I'm just
00:08:02trying to relax here. Oh, by starting a fight? I was just taking in the scenery,
00:08:08the trees, the mountains, the nice bud. Yeah.
00:08:14You gotta admit, it was a nice bud. Okay, it was a great bud. You know what? There are
00:08:19like three people for 100 miles and you leer at one and start a fight with
00:08:23another. Sorry, baby. I'm just an animal.
00:08:29Oh, here, let me get that for you. Oh, gentlemen, here we are. Load up.
00:08:59Why'd you pick a fight with that guy? Did he remind you of someone? No, and I didn't
00:09:21pick a fight. I saw the way he was glaring at you. What happened?
00:09:28There was never gonna be any fight. He got insecure all of a sudden. It's an
00:09:33alpha male thing. Fights only happen when it isn't clear who that is. Oh, I see, and
00:09:38it's usually you. It just seems to happen a lot more to you than to anybody else.
00:09:44No, it happens every time two men meet. Just a little more subtle, normally.
00:09:50Really? Sure. Maybe not a fight, but dominance is
00:09:56clearly established every single time. Let's go with the handshake first. Who
00:10:03looks away during a conversation? Who stands up straighter when a new guy
00:10:06enters the room? Same game, different rules. Really, the guys that duke it out
00:10:11are being a lot more honest about it.
00:10:17Well, there's nobody for you to fight with for miles around, except me.
00:10:24Now that's something I am afraid of. Come on, we're supposed to be better about this.
00:10:31Maybe this trip into the woods is exactly what we need to get back on
00:10:34track.
00:10:38Thank you for agreeing to come with me. It means a lot to me. Sure thing.
00:10:45Hey, look. Oh, Jack, it's perfect.
00:10:54Hey. Come on.
00:11:01Come on.
00:11:04Come on.
00:11:15Pick your bedroom.
00:11:24It's terrific. I thought you said you've been here before. Yeah, well, when I was a
00:11:30kid, but back then it was all about swimming and cookouts. I barely slept in
00:11:35the house.
00:11:38Yeah, a little cleaning. It's gonna be great.
00:11:51Oh, babe, there's a cute little stove.
00:11:58Hey, look. This week's paying off already. Oh, yeah, that's Uncle Rand. He used to have
00:12:05jars of coins laying around everywhere. You should check it. There might be some
00:12:08old coins in there. You're right. There's a silver dollar. I told you, we'll have to
00:12:14get that to Aunt Dolores. Why? Because they're hers. This is Uncle Rand's place, so
00:12:20everything in it belonged to him. Now it belongs to her.
00:12:25Yeah, of course. I just didn't want to have to see Aunt Dolores, you know?
00:12:55She's found the bedroom. Oh, did you now? Well, it just so happens that I just read
00:13:00in this magazine from when I was 10 years old that the bedroom can still be
00:13:06the sexiest room in the house. Is that a fact? Yes, it is. Right next to kitchen
00:13:11countertops and hot tubs.
00:13:17Since we'll be eating here, I'd like to think that Aunt Dolores never read that
00:13:23magazine. Where's Larry? What? Larry! He can fend for himself. No, Jack, that guy at the
00:13:45store said that there are a lot of wild animals here. Why wouldn't there be?
00:13:48There's a lot of wild animals in here, too. Oh, come on.
00:13:55No, Jack, come on. Five minutes. I know you. Five minutes turns into more. Come on, Larry.
00:14:08Larry!
00:14:11Here, boy. Larry! Jack, take a look at this. Wow, that's huge. Do you think it's a bear?
00:14:36What am I, a botanist? The smaller ones could be Larry.
00:15:06I think this is the last of it. Hand me the little red bag. I'm going to get the candles out. You hungry? I'm starving. Great, I want to get
00:15:26supper done before we lose light. There's no lights? Well, until we get the
00:15:31generator started, it's candles. It'll be kind of fun roughing it. I'll have a nice
00:15:39romantic candlelit dinner. I'm gonna check on the generator. You never know when we
00:15:45might need it.
00:16:31All right!
00:17:01I'm gonna have to put some more gas in the jenny. Jenny? You didn't fill it up? I just
00:17:18started it to see if it'd work. It'll run out any minute. Thank you. So what do you
00:17:24think those other tracks were by the lake? I don't know, a mountain line? Could be a
00:17:29bear. Bears have claws. Probably a cougar. That'd be so cool to see. But I'm worried
00:17:40about Larry. I'd be more worried about the cougar. That dog weighs almost as much as
00:17:45me. I don't know, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Come on, we just got here. Give
00:17:54it a chance. We're just so remote. Oh, good thing you did the candles. Like you said,
00:18:04give it a try. I don't know, it's just kind of creepy. The whole no cell phone thing makes
00:18:10me feel naked. Ooh, naked. Jack. I'm sure you'll be fine after a couple of days. Besides,
00:18:24you got me to protect you. That's all I've ever wanted. Someone to make me feel safe
00:18:29and that I can take care of. Where were you? I got lost. Where were you? I got lost, alright?
00:18:42It was dark. I ran outside. I was looking for a stick or something to fight it with
00:18:47and it was just so dark I got lost. That doesn't make any sense. Why would you go outside?
00:18:51I ran to the car to get a jackhammer or a flare. You know, it bit me and I wanted to
00:18:56kill it. So then you just waited outside until it left on its own? No, it was dark. I got
00:19:02lost. Where are you going? Back to the general store. Maybe that big guy there knows where
00:19:08the nearest hospital is. And fucking stop screaming at me. Hello, please! Please, come
00:19:31here, please! Please! Yes, yes, please. We need a doctor. What is it? What's the matter?
00:19:42It's my husband. He's been attacked. Please, he's hurt. Attacked? Yes, please! A doctor!
00:19:47Right, right. I'll get him right away. Thank you. It's not that bad, really. Get back in
00:19:55the car. I'm taking you to a doctor. It's really not that bad. Jack, don't. I called the doctor.
00:20:02He's on his way over here. See? You kids might get lost trying to find his place.
00:20:07Lord, look at you. You got chewed up pretty good. What was it? I don't know. It was big.
00:20:15Well, come inside and lie down. I got a place in the back where I
00:20:17take naps when business is slow. You have slow days? You'd be surprised.
00:20:25Come in. Dr. Howard. Howdy. Ah, you must be the patient. What was that? It's pumping strong.
00:20:42That's a good sign. Oh, was that a dog? No. No, it was something bigger. I'm not quite sure. It
00:20:53was really dark. Okay, well, let's get you cleaned up and see what we're looking at.
00:20:59It's an awful lot of blood, but your color's good. I don't think we hit any main arteries.
00:21:11When did you say this happened? A couple hours ago.
00:21:15Uh-huh. Strong? No, no, not at all. In fact, it's healing quite nicely,
00:21:25but I'm still gonna have to keep an eye on you for infection and rabies. Rabies? Yeah,
00:21:31you can't rule it out. In fact, that might be the reason why a wild animal is gonna up and attack
00:21:35you. I typically try to avoid people. You sure this wasn't a dog? Oh my goodness, Larry. Who's
00:21:43Larry? My dog. Jack, we gotta go back and find him. I know you love that dog, but I am not going
00:21:49back to the cabin. He's out there. He could be hurt. I'm not going back out there. He's my dog.
00:21:53I've had him longer than I've had you, okay? He saved my life. I told you I got lost. Oh,
00:21:58you got mixed up with all the other cabins out there. Excuse me. I went out looking for a weapon.
00:22:02We were in the kitchen with all the knives. Excuse me. What? You said that the dog attacked
00:22:07the animal that attacked you, right? Yes. Okay, so if you can find your dog, then we can observe him,
00:22:12and Jack here doesn't have to go through all the rabies treatments,
00:22:15unless it's absolutely necessary. Otherwise, I say we get you started on the meds right now.
00:22:21Jack, it's my Larry. Please. Okay, we'll finish up here, and then
00:22:31we'll go back to the cabin and look for Larry. Are we all done? Just a few little things.
00:22:37Get a jump start on the infection. There's some antibiotics,
00:22:40and a little something for the pain. You want to wait outside for a second? Sure. I just ... We
00:22:47really appreciate you coming out here, getting you out of bed. I'm sorry. Don't even mention it.
00:22:52It's the life of the country, doc, you know? We're all done then? Yeah. You mind if I get a
00:23:01quick minute? Listen, life for you is about to change, okay? You're going to start feeling some
00:23:06weird things going on. Okay? Okay. What was that all about? I don't know. He was trying
00:23:13to get me into some cult or something. Let's get out of here. Larry!
00:23:32I'm going to check in the house. Okay.
00:23:37Here, boy! Larry!
00:23:44Larry! Larry!
00:23:52He's not here.
00:23:57What are we going to do? I don't know.
00:24:01We can put some food out. What a mess.
00:24:17I should board up the windows. I saw some planks outside. I'll see if I can find some nails.
00:24:21Could you grab me some bacon first?
00:24:24Thanks, babe.
00:24:30He's going to come home soon.
00:24:34Thanks. While I'm at it, maybe I'll make some eggs. Now you're talking.
00:24:54Here, dog! Larry! Larry! Larry! Larry, here, boy! I wish I would have thought when we were
00:25:08at the store to ask if we could put up a sign or something that said if you see a stray dog.
00:25:12Yeah, because the people here, they'd eat them. Nice. You're so insensitive. You can see that
00:25:16I'm upset. I'm sorry. You're right. It was just a joke. An insensitive one. Not to mention
00:25:23judgmental and superior. Jesus, it was just a joke. And I am superior. Have you looked at
00:25:30these backwood hicks? The way they live out here? This is no use for a life. You know,
00:25:36you make these sweeping generalizations that anyone who isn't living their lives just the
00:25:40way that you think they should be is wasting their life. We need to go back to the store
00:25:47anyways. We're out of ice. Is there anything else we need? Is there anything else they have?
00:25:53Oh, okay, great. Because you would know that if you would have been checking out
00:25:56what was on the shelves instead of checking out that girl's ass. You're impossible.
00:26:13Jack? Oh, good. You're up. Yeah. What time is it? Lunchtime. How do you want your steak?
00:26:20Oh, wow. I must have been really tired. It's been an intense couple of days. Yeah. I'll go set the table.
00:26:33Oh, and well done, please.
00:26:48Do you want any veggies? No. Okay.
00:27:02Well, I guess I was hungry. You're not eating. I had a little something earlier.
00:27:21Well, you know what? I can put this out on the porch and maybe Larry will smell it and
00:27:27help him find his way home. Larry?
00:27:41Larry?
00:27:45So, what do we do now? I don't know. How's your arm? Itches.
00:28:02You know, that door over there doesn't close all the way. It scares me.
00:28:07Could you try to do something about that while I do the dishes?
00:28:10Okay. But I think we got off to a good start last night before that animal broke through the window.
00:28:22Why don't we pick it up from there? How about you fix the door first?
00:28:31How about you fix the door first?
00:28:40Hey! Hey! What?
00:28:55Excuse me?
00:29:00Sorry, honey. This thing's pissing me off.
00:29:41Are you okay? I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm just hungry.
00:29:51Okay. That makes sense. You didn't have any lunch. No. No, I didn't.
00:29:59I can make you some burgers. Great. But rare, okay? Please.
00:30:09Okay.
00:30:23I'm sure that he'll be able to find his way home if he's not too hurt.
00:30:28I'm just worried that he won't be able to, you know?
00:30:32Larry? Yes, Larry.
00:30:34He'll be fine. I'm sure he'll be home any minute. I hope so.
00:30:39It's just that fight was so vicious. You saw the kitchen.
00:30:44And my arm? Yes, and your arm.
00:30:54I'm sure he'll be fine. But what if he's not? You know, we should be out there looking for him.
00:31:01No. No. He can follow his nose. We should be here for when he gets back home.
00:31:14I guess you're right. It's just, this is as long as he's ever been away.
00:31:21Would you stop talking about the damn dog? He saved my life. I saved your life. No,
00:31:26you ran out the door. I went out for a weapon. Oh, you mean like a chair or a sharp pointy thing?
00:31:32It was dark. I'm out of here. What? I'm gonna go out for some fresh air and look for Larry.
00:31:41I'll come with you. No. You just stay here for when he comes back.
00:31:59Larry? Larry?
00:32:07You're killing me.
00:32:12Larry?
00:32:30Larry?
00:32:35I better not have rabies.
00:32:41Larry?
00:33:02Larry?
00:33:11Larry?
00:33:41Larry?
00:34:11Larry?
00:34:20Larry?
00:34:50You're okay.
00:34:58Shit.
00:35:01All right. My husband Jack, he has the car right now, but he'll be back any minute.
00:35:05We'll get you some help. What's your name? That's okay. That's okay. Don't worry.
00:35:14It's gonna be okay. Come on, Jack. Where are you when I need you?
00:35:20I'll probably stay a million miles from us right now.
00:35:31Besides, we got all the wildlife we need right here.
00:35:44It's okay.
00:35:44Shh. Take it easy.
00:35:50It doesn't seem to be life-threatening because you're breathing fine, so just try to rest.
00:35:56Try to rest.
00:36:26Shh.
00:36:57Jack. Oh, my gosh. Are you hurt? I'm okay. I wrecked our car.
00:37:24You're bleeding. Are you sure you're okay? I think I hit my head on the steering wheel.
00:37:30That medication that the whack doctor gave me. I'm gonna sue him.
00:37:35Well, let's just clean you up and see if you need stitches.
00:37:41Are you hurt? No. That was the naked guy.
00:37:46Excuse me? There was this guy. He had a really bad neck wound.
00:37:51He was stark naked. And you let him in the house?
00:37:55Jack, he was so badly hurt, he could barely stand.
00:38:00He was probably attacked by the same thing that mauled you.
00:38:05You sure you're not just dreaming this up? You were asleep when I came in here.
00:38:08Where'd that blood come from, okay? He was here. I was gonna take him to the doctor when you got back.
00:38:14Where is he now? I don't know.
00:38:20Are you sure you didn't see somebody? I'm pretty sure a naked guy would have caught my attention.
00:38:27Yeah. I don't know. Maybe he was so delirious that he wandered off. I mean, he lost a lot of blood.
00:38:33Speaking of blood loss. Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry.
00:38:37Come on. Let's get you upstairs. Get you to bed.
00:38:40Take your shoes off. Let's get cozy.
00:38:57Well, it doesn't look like you need any stitches. There aren't many cuts.
00:39:03I think this blood might be from your arm. Oh, it's healing nicely. Doesn't look bad at all.
00:39:10Jack, you just had an accident. I'm fine.
00:39:14You might have a concussion. Well, then you should examine my head.
00:39:21Larry! Where have you been, boy? Mama was so worried about you. It looks like he's okay.
00:39:30Good boy. Where have you been? He's okay. Yeah, Larry. Great to see you.
00:39:37Hey, now that he's back, I don't have to get the rabies shots.
00:39:40And we can leave this miserable cabin.
00:39:45Hey, we were just in the middle of something. Thanks a lot.
00:39:47Oh, are you serious, Jack? This has been a disaster.
00:39:51No, we were going to... Oh, yeah. Since we've been here,
00:39:54we've been attacked by a wild animal. You wrecked the car. We've wrecked up I don't
00:39:58know how much in medical bills. Now we have to deal with vet costs. Not to mention the naked guy.
00:40:07Yeah. Tell me again. Why was he naked? Oh, he didn't say.
00:40:13We came here for a calm weekend to work on ourselves. This has been anything but calm.
00:40:18Yeah, I'll grant you that. Yeah, and besides, that guy was really hurt.
00:40:23You know, he could be out there roaming into a lake and getting drowned. We should call the
00:40:28police or the forest ranger or something. Wait, your aunt owns this property and we
00:40:34are in residence. Does that make us liable at all? You would think of that. Okay, it's a fair
00:40:42point. All the more reason why we should get out of here. Yeah, I guess so. Wait, we can't. I wrecked
00:40:50the car. No, Jack. What are we going to do? Hey, it's okay. When I'm here, I'm going to
00:40:58take care of everything. I guess we should start walking.
00:41:02Wait, what? No, we should get a good night's sleep. That way we can get up in the morning and
00:41:07we'll see if the car is even drivable. Plus, I'm ravenous. I forgot about that. I should
00:41:15get you something to eat. I'll go make something. Good boy. I don't want any more surprises today.
00:41:21Yeah, I got a surprise for you later, cock block. Seriously? Get out of here. Get out of here.
00:41:51Jack? Come on, boy.
00:42:17Jack?
00:42:17Jack?
00:42:23Be right there.
00:42:38Okay, should we go? Do we have to? Jack, snap out of it. We got to call the police and tell
00:42:44them about the naked guy. We got to get our car fixed. There are things we have to do. We don't
00:42:47have a cell phone signal. We have jobs. This could take a week to sort out. I know. I know
00:42:53what I was thinking. It's just so nice out here. What? You didn't even want to come out here in the
00:43:04first place. After all this has happened, what are you talking about? I know. I just feel so relaxed
00:43:10now at home. You've certainly changed your tune. Larry, let's go, baby. Put his collar and leash
00:43:19on. I don't want him running off every time he sees a squirrel. I don't want to put his leash on.
00:43:23His neck's been through so much stress. You're babying too much. Someone's got to. Come on, baby.
00:43:29Let's go.
00:43:37Here it is. Wow, you didn't get very far. We've only been walking for a little bit.
00:43:42We should sue that country doctor. There was no do not operate heavy machinery
00:43:47warnings or anything. Pretty sure I passed out at the wheel. Wow, you really did a number on it.
00:43:53Surprised you didn't get hurt. I don't know. I just think the bumper's damaged. I don't think
00:43:56the frame... I think the frame of the car is still intact.
00:44:07I don't know, Jack. There's a lot of stuff leaking and it smells like gas. Do you think that's safe?
00:44:13You won't know unless we try and I'm willing to take the risk.
00:44:27It was worth a try.
00:44:42Did you really mean what you said about it feeling like home here?
00:44:48Yeah. I really like it here. It's very peaceful. Peaceful? Oh yeah, trees and stuff.
00:44:57Well, what did you mean?
00:45:01Wild. Not wild crazy, but wild like natural. I can really be myself here.
00:45:08I guess that's true. There are very few people to give you a hard time.
00:45:14Larry!
00:45:17Told you this would happen.
00:45:18Anybody? Hello?
00:45:29We need a ride. No keys. It's locked. Larry! Larry! Larry!
00:45:42Larry!
00:45:44Here, boy.
00:45:46Larry!
00:45:50You're making a mess, Jack.
00:45:52Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:45:54Stay back. Hold it right there. Just hold it.
00:46:02It's really bloody, but there's nobody home.
00:46:07Looks like it could have been some animals, possibly a bear. Or what attacked us.
00:46:11Oh, Jack, the naked guy. This is probably where he was camping.
00:46:15We got to get to a phone. Maybe his keys are in the tent.
00:46:21For Christ's sake, Larry!
00:46:24Larry, wait. Larry!
00:46:30What the hell is going on? How should I know?
00:46:33We need to call the police. There's still no signal. Larry, please wait.
00:46:40Larry, come here, boy.
00:47:01It's not what you think.
00:47:03Stay away from me.
00:47:05Sweetheart, it's not what it looks like.
00:47:08This is your shirt. Stay away from me.
00:47:11You don't understand. It's wonderful.
00:47:16You're insane.
00:47:19I can't explain.
00:47:21You!
00:47:37Oh, my God.
00:47:47That's what you can do with opposable thumbs.
00:48:37Oh, my God.
00:48:41Oh, my God.
00:49:05Miss Lupo?
00:49:08Miss Lupo, I'm a friend of Dr. Howard's. He asked me to come check on you.
00:49:11Dr. Howard's? Wait! Please, don't go. Please. Please.
00:49:22Hi, Miss Lupo.
00:49:24Where's your car?
00:49:25Yeah, I just lived down the road.
00:49:27No, we got to get out of here.
00:49:28No, ma'am, just calm down. Everything's gonna...
00:49:31No, no, no, I won't calm down. My husband's out there. He's gone crazy,
00:49:34and he's gonna be back here any second.
00:49:36Actually, I do understand, and that's why I came to speak with you and your husband.
00:49:41Everything's gonna be okay. I promise. You mind if I come in?
00:49:47Okay, just close the door.
00:49:49Okay.
00:50:05He did this?
00:50:07I did this.
00:50:12But he's the one that went crazy.
00:50:14Yes.
00:50:15Miss Lupo, were you bitten as well?
00:50:17No. My Larry, he scared off whatever it was that was trying to attack us.
00:50:23Larry's a dog?
00:50:24Yeah. How'd you know?
00:50:28I just dodged.
00:50:31Well, it's actually my husband, Jack. He's gone completely crazy. I think he killed somebody.
00:50:38Has he ever killed anyone before?
00:50:40No, of course not.
00:50:42Has he ever killed anyone before?
00:50:44No, of course not.
00:50:45Then let's not jump to conclusions.
00:50:50Oh, yeah, sure. That makes it all better.
00:50:52Actually, it does.
00:50:54Because I'm gonna wait right here with you for Jack to come back,
00:50:59and then I'm gonna have a little chat with him.
00:51:01And I guarantee you nothing bad can happen to you while I'm here.
00:51:07Got a witness?
00:51:08That doesn't matter. Jack is going crazy. He doesn't want to chat.
00:51:12He's in full rage mode. I've known him for 20 years, and he's never acted this way.
00:51:15Miss Lupo, please. Would you mind if I had a cup of coffee?
00:51:20What?
00:51:22I just, it's been a long night. I could really use a cup of coffee.
00:51:32Sure.
00:51:33Sure.
00:52:10You're Randy's cousin? Randy's niece, am I right?
00:52:15Yeah. How'd you know that?
00:52:18Oh, did Doc Howard tell you?
00:52:21Right, small town. Everybody's got their noses up each other's business, you know?
00:52:27No, I knew your uncle really well.
00:52:29Good man, he's a good neighbor, and that counts for a lot out here.
00:52:35I was with him when he passed. It was tragic.
00:52:41I didn't know that. It was a hunting accident, right?
00:52:46Yeah. Well, pretty much.
00:52:52Yeah, Aunt Delores, she was letting us have the cabin for a week.
00:52:56Jack and I were supposed to be working on our marital issues.
00:52:59Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:53:01Turned out to be a total disaster. I mean, look at the place.
00:53:04I don't know how we're going to pay Aunt Delores back.
00:53:10When you asked me if Jack had ever killed anyone, were you serious?
00:53:18Well, you've got to understand that you're not in the city anymore. I mean,
00:53:23we live a little closer to the land out here.
00:53:25I guess being livestock people gives us more of a sanguine view of death.
00:53:30Animals die, people die, you know? Sometimes it's okay, sometimes it isn't.
00:53:35Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. Jack, he's always had a temper.
00:53:40That's actually how we met.
00:53:43Really?
00:53:43Yeah, right after college. I was at this bar, and this guy, total creep, he was hitting on me.
00:53:51And I was trying to let him know, like, I'm not interested.
00:53:54And then he raised his hand up, like he was going to hit me.
00:53:57Well, that ain't any kind of man.
00:53:59There's more. When he raised his hand up, another hand grabbed his and turned him around.
00:54:05And then he looked at me, and that was Jack. And he said, is this guy bothering you?
00:54:12And while he was looking at me, the guy sucker punched him.
00:54:15Jack didn't move. He kept eye contact for a second.
00:54:18And then he snapped and just beat the crap out of the guy.
00:54:24Really? But, I bet he didn't kill him.
00:54:29No.
00:54:31In retrospect, it just kind of scares me. The guy hit the ground and didn't see it coming.
00:54:40Well, there's a difference between having a bad temper and having a good temper.
00:54:47And killing someone, you know, that takes a different kind of man.
00:54:54Jack let him go. Am I right?
00:54:57Yeah. I guess I was real impressed. I gave him my number.
00:55:03So him sticking up for you, that attracted you to him?
00:55:11Well, I went home with him. We've been together ever since.
00:55:14Well, isn't that a beautiful story?
00:55:19The point is that Jack, he's not afraid of a fight.
00:55:24Well, all it takes is one primal event like that to rip the civilization right out of you.
00:55:29And then you see who the man really is underneath.
00:55:35And some people, you know, they can keep it buried their entire lives.
00:55:39And some of us just don't have that choice.
00:55:46What are you getting at?
00:55:48I'm just talking about the duality of the world.
00:55:51Chinese call it yin and yang. Western psychology, they call it masculine and feminine.
00:55:58But the Native Americans that lived right here, they called it the spirit brother.
00:56:05I'm just talking about the animal nature that lives in all of us.
00:56:10Probably what's happening is Jack's getting in touch with his spirit brother for the first time.
00:56:19That's something he can't do back home.
00:56:22It's funny. He said something similar to that.
00:56:25He said that out here he felt like he could be free and be himself.
00:56:31Well, there you have it.
00:56:35You know, I see that you're both crazy.
00:56:38Jack can't hold anything back.
00:56:40I mean, he went nuts. I think he killed someone.
00:56:44Are you going to help me get out of here or not?
00:56:46Do you have any evidence at all that he killed somebody?
00:56:57You have something to tell me?
00:56:58About two miles from here, there's a dead woman.
00:57:05And her body's all mangled up like an animal attack.
00:57:10And I found Jack's shirt beside her.
00:57:17Well, that changes things a mite.
00:57:23Virginia!
00:57:24Jack!
00:57:28Virginia!
00:57:31Nothing bad can happen to you while I'm here.
00:57:34OK, that's fine, but I'm going to keep the knife.
00:57:36Virginia!
00:57:36I'm inside. Give us a second.
00:57:40Us?
00:57:43A naked guy.
00:57:55Who's this guy?
00:57:56Hey, Jack. My name's Reed. Reed Oliver. I'm a friend of Dr. Howard's.
00:58:01He sent me because he said you might need some help.
00:58:05You OK, sweetheart?
00:58:07Yeah, I was just a little shook up.
00:58:11Well, I've got some things to explain to the two of you.
00:58:15Mrs. Lupo, your husband has received a gift.
00:58:22A great gift.
00:58:23Now normally we have a whole month to explain this to you,
00:58:26but we've got three weeks to do it.
00:58:29I don't know what's going on, but if you could explain it to me.
00:58:32Mrs. Lupo, your husband has received a gift, a great gift.
00:58:41Now normally we have a whole month to explain and prepare, but this has been a bit unusual.
00:58:47You think?
00:58:49Virginia, you don't mind if I call you Virginia, do you?
00:58:55I'm speaking directly to you because I don't have to explain myself to Jack.
00:59:01He knows exactly what I'm talking about.
00:59:05And as fantastic and crazy as it might sound,
00:59:08what attacked you a couple of nights ago is what you might call a werewolf.
00:59:15He's crazy too.
00:59:17Wait, let's hear him out.
00:59:25So, there's a physical transformation.
00:59:29Oh yeah.
00:59:33Something happened.
00:59:35And it's a wolf.
00:59:39My ancestors believed that the spirits of wolf and man were very closely united.
00:59:45I mean, when you think about it, we've been sharing the same hunting grounds for thousands of years.
00:59:50And the fact that wolves were domesticated at all kind of supports the idea that we've been kindred spirits since the beginning.
00:59:59So there's a physical change.
01:00:02Dr. Howard thinks the gift is a straight-up disease.
01:00:08But I'm a little bit more on the metaphysical tip.
01:00:12I mean, all you have to do is witness the transformation firsthand under a big, beautiful moon,
01:00:19and you would probably think that something a little supernatural is going on.
01:00:27Where were you bitten?
01:00:32Jack.
01:00:34That was...
01:00:38It's gonna be okay.
01:00:43Is he dangerous?
01:00:45Well, that depends on his nature.
01:00:47If he's a good man, if he has a peaceful soul, when the gift takes effect,
01:00:54he might sleep out on the porch at night, wag his tail, scratch some fleas, chase a squirrel.
01:01:03And what if he's ordinarily aggressive?
01:01:08Well, now we get to the matter of the dead girl you say you found.
01:01:14You say Jack here has some anger issues?
01:01:17What have you said to this guy?
01:01:19Whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:01:21Relax, Jack.
01:01:23We've been here for hundreds of years. We know how to handle the occasional accident.
01:01:28But what I need to know is if you're gonna be a danger to the pack.
01:01:33Our friends in law enforcement checked on you the moment that we suspected that you might have received the gift.
01:01:41Turns out you have a fair history of violence.
01:01:45I mean, nothing too severe.
01:01:48That is until you get into the sealed record.
01:01:51What?
01:01:53It was a long time ago.
01:01:55It was juvie, that's why it was sealed.
01:01:59There's really nothing to it. I can explain everything that happened, sweetheart.
01:02:02Well, you're gonna have to explain yourself to the pack.
01:02:05Because we can't exactly have a bloodbath every full moon now, can we?
01:02:10But this limits to how much we can cover up.
01:02:13What?
01:02:15I'm finally shedding the restrictions of a civilized life and you want to add more on top of the other ones we already have?
01:02:27You are crazy.
01:02:28So, why were we attacked?
01:02:32The Alpha Wolf might have sensed Jack as a threat.
01:02:36I mean, who knows? Maybe he got something on the wind.
01:02:42Are you threatening me?
01:02:47I'll do whatever it takes to protect the pack, Jack.
01:02:51Sounds like a threat to me.
01:02:56You arrogant little pup.
01:02:59I knew you were trouble. I smelled it all over John's store.
01:03:04That's you.
01:03:07What are you, the Alpha?
01:03:10What do you think?
01:03:15So, it's your rules until they get in your way?
01:03:18That's right.
01:03:20And if you don't like it, we can wait till the moon rises and settle this the ancient way.
01:03:29Why wait?
01:03:34Come on.
01:03:41Every dog has its day.
01:03:47You left me no choice, babe.
01:03:49What?
01:03:50You heard him.
01:03:52He was going to trot me out in front of some committee and have them put me down like a mad dog.
01:03:57And why would he think to do that?
01:03:59I can still fix this.
01:04:01I can bury the bodies and no one will ever know.
01:04:07But I need to know you're with me.
01:04:10It's going to be dark soon.
01:04:14Sure, babe. Yeah.
01:04:19We'll just mate for life, right?
01:04:23Yeah.
01:04:32No.
01:04:38Come on, sweetheart.
01:04:40You heard him. He had it coming.
01:04:42They were going to put me down.
01:04:44You don't know that. The pack might have understood.
01:04:46They may have been in your favor.
01:04:47You heard him.
01:04:48He was going to wait till the moon came up and then he was going to kill me when he had the advantage.
01:04:52And what about the dead girl?
01:04:54Okay. You got me there.
01:05:02No.
01:05:06Jay, no. Please.
01:05:08For better or for worse, right?
01:05:12It's going to get a lot worse.
01:05:15No!
01:05:32I'm scared.
01:05:53Stop it! No!
01:06:02No!
01:06:25Let me!
01:06:32No!
01:06:47Silver, just like in the movies.
01:07:02No!
01:07:16No!
01:07:18No!
01:07:32No!
01:07:35No!
01:08:01No!
01:08:31No!
01:09:01No!
01:09:22Okay.
01:09:24So Jack killed this guy.
01:09:26And then he panics and he runs away and he wrecked the car and he died in the crash.
01:09:32The police should buy that, right?
01:09:35Stay.
01:09:42Easy. Easy, boy. It's okay.
01:09:56Come on.
01:10:27Come on.
01:10:41Larry, no! Larry!
01:10:45Larry. Larry.
01:10:48Good boy. Good boy. Good boy. Come on.
01:10:51Come on. Come on.
01:10:54I'm here.
01:10:58Copy.
01:11:00Come on. Get out of here.
01:11:23Come on.
01:11:53Come on.
01:12:23Come on.
01:12:53Come on.
01:13:02Well, hello. You're getting to be a regular around here.
01:13:06Yeah, we try to come out at least once a month.
01:13:09I like having a business and all, but I would have thought you would never want to see this part of the world again.
01:13:14Least of all that cabin. After all that unpleasantness.
01:13:18Yeah, that's all behind me now. This place is actually pretty special to me now.
01:13:22I just met being up there all alone, so...
01:13:26I'm not alone.
01:13:28What do you mean?
01:13:30I don't think you've met my little brother. This is James. He's the sheriff around here.
01:13:35Little brother.
01:13:37Hi, I'm Virginia.
01:13:39You're saying you're not alone?
01:13:42Yeah, Larry, my dog. He's in the car.
01:13:47Quite a lot of unpleasantness is on your way, if you don't mind me saying so.
01:13:53Actually, I do. My husband died in that accident, and his friend Reed.
01:13:59Well, that's kind of what I was getting at.
01:14:02Mr. Oliver was kind of a community leader around here.
01:14:08Were they friends?
01:14:12Jack had a lot of secrets from me. I only assumed they were friends because they drove off together.
01:14:19Some folks we miss more than others.
01:14:22Mr. Oliver may have been a leader in the community, but not a good one.
01:14:29Turns out he had a record, a history of violence.
01:14:33I'm sorry for your loss, though.
01:14:35Thank you. Yeah.
01:14:37And you don't have to worry about any more unpleasantness with me and Larry just coming up every now and then.
01:14:42We just like the quiet.
01:14:44That's all I needed to hear.
01:14:47Thirteen-fifty.
01:14:48Oh, yes.
01:14:49I got some change.
01:14:59We look out for our own out here.
01:15:08Yeah.
01:15:10You know what? I'm going to take these, too.
01:15:13That's cool.
01:15:16Tell Larry to say hello.
01:15:19Thank you. I will.
01:15:23You're one of us now.
01:15:25See you next month.
01:15:33Did you miss me?
01:15:36I got you something.
01:15:38What?
01:15:40I'm going to teach you how to read.
01:15:42Yeah?
01:15:44Here we go.
01:16:05I'm going to teach you how to read.
01:16:35I'm going to teach you how to read.
