00:00In Indian mythology, there is a type of water monster called Makara.
00:07In Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia,
00:10Makara is also called the monster that lives under the water.
00:19Oh, I almost forgot my name in this story.
00:23Are you ready to listen, Kaaha?
00:26Our Kaaha's are so lucky today.
00:29Did you see that?
00:31The award-winning journalist, Ms. Carla Davin, will tell us about it.
00:45There is a Filipino friend who loves Halloween parties.
00:49His name is Marlon, Kim, and Amie.
00:52But instead of wearing costumes every Halloween,
00:55they choose to travel to different countries
00:58to look for famous ghosts and monsters there.
01:03For this year, India is their chosen destination.
01:09They say that this monster is famous in the provinces near rivers and temples.
01:15It's better if we go there.
01:19Friends continue to visit a small house near the river.
01:25Here, they noticed that most of the fishermen's boats
01:30have a picture of a creature that looks like it has a connection to life.
01:37They remembered that this is one of the so-called appearances of a monster called Makara.
01:46As time goes by, there are many defections.
01:50Sometimes, it's a crocodile.
01:53Sometimes, it's a sea cow.
01:57Sometimes, it's a manatee.
02:00Sometimes, it's a seal or a deer.
02:03So, things change.
02:06But the dominant theme is half man and half fish.
02:16Isn't our plan dangerous?
02:18I'm also scared.
02:20But we're already here.
02:23As long as we see what it looks like, let's get out of here.
02:29At night, the friends go out.
02:34Even though they see a limited amount,
02:37they feel like there are eyes in the dark watching them.
02:44Later on, they are surprised to see a creature that looks like a creature from a distance.
02:52They were going to take a picture of it,
02:55but they suddenly moved to get closer to it.
02:59Makara!
03:03The friends hurriedly moved away from their belief in Makara.
03:09But in a very dark place,
03:11they couldn't find the right way back.
03:15It's a good thing that a light came to them from far away.
03:23There! I think that's the place.
03:26They followed the light and came back to where they came from.
03:33Wait, are you Filipino?
03:35Thank you for your help.
03:37Did you know that what you did was dangerous?
03:40I'm sorry, we just wanted to see Makara.
03:44I know, I heard you talking earlier.
03:50I'm Filipino, but I was born and raised here in India.
03:55Since then, there's a lot of rumors about Makara.
03:59It's said that it's a water monster.
04:01There are also a lot of fish and birds that hunt it.
04:06Amar's next story was surprised by his friends.
04:11One night, a man was looking for Makara.
04:16He hoped that he could find her.
04:19He even brought his young daughter with him because there's no one to take care of her here.
04:24Later, someone sneaked into a part of the water.
04:29There! I think that's Makara!
04:33The father quickly took the boat, but the strong wind swept the boat.
04:39They rowed the boat until the child fell into the water.
04:46The father was so surprised and didn't know what to do.
04:50Maybe the monster finally got his daughter.
04:56The father couldn't believe what he saw.
05:00His daughter is alive and safe.
05:04She was saved by Makara, who is a good person.
05:10Many people believe in Makara.
05:12As a way of asking for protection, they carved Makara's image on their boats.
05:19But there are still people who don't believe in his story.
05:23You're the one who should ask.
05:25Do you believe in the father's story?
05:28It's been years, but I still remember how Makara saved me.
05:37Oh, so he's the child in the story.
05:41But the question is, is Makara really alive?
05:46If you study Hindu mythology, today it's Indian society.
05:50It's a 5,000 years old civilization, right?
05:54He uses the vessel of the goddess of river, Ganga.
06:00And his wife, Varuna.
06:02So it means he's riding it.
06:04But the physical appearance of Makara, we don't have a picture of it.
06:09There's no evidence that he's a scientist.
06:12But it's okay if we believe in someone else's story.
06:24Hey!
