For two nights of performances (October 18 and 19, 2024) Naama Tsabar activated her current exhibition “Friction” at Nazarian/Curcio Gallery in Los Angeles. The entire exhibition space became a sound space in which the audience could move freely around the performers. The performance has been composed and performed in a collaboration with Gabriela Burdsall, Jeanann Dara, and Sarah Strauss.
New York-based artist Naama Tsabar presents her third solo exhibition at the gallery, running from September 21 to November 2, 2024. “Friction” showcases new additions to her sound-based Works on Felt series and introduces an architectural piece from her Gaffer Wall (Twilight) series, alongside debuting sculptures made from reconfigured instrument bows. Tsabar explores the intersections of sculpture, architecture, and music, emphasizing performance through sound, light, and the titular theme of friction.
The Works on Felt series evolves with new pieces inspired by desert landscapes, employing felt, carbon fiber, and piano strings that invite interaction, altering sound through touch. Her Twilight (Gaffer Wall), a curved installation using gaffer tape, transforms the gallery into an immersive, nocturnal environment, highlighting the interplay between visibility and invisibility.
Tsabar also introduces bow sculptures, where the functional essence of bows is repurposed into aesthetic forms, exploring materiality through horsehair and wood. This exhibition not only displays Tsabar’s ongoing exploration of material and performative interaction but also engages viewers physically and reflectively with the art.
