00:00With a subtitle like The Last Dance, there's a definite finality to the third Venom film.
00:05So does one of the lead characters kick the bucket this time around? We'll tell you, so
00:09prepare yourself for spoilers.
00:12Over the course of three movies, Venom and Eddie Brock have been a mismatch made in heaven,
00:16saving the day as a self-described lethal protector.
00:19Where would we go?
00:21I don't know. I don't know. Anywhere that needs a lethal protector, I suppose.
00:27The threat in The Last Dance is the biggest one the two have faced yet, as a seemingly
00:31indestructible Xenophage sent by Knull, the creator of the symbiotes, tracks them down
00:37on Earth.
00:38They get some help from other symbiotes, but more Xenophages also arrive. So yes, Venom
00:42separates from Eddie and sacrifices himself in acid to melt all of them and destroy the
00:47Codex Knull needs.
00:48Eddie survives and goes to New York, but by all appearances, Venom bites the dust.
00:53It's a poignant ending, complete with a final montage of all the good times Venom and Eddie
00:57had. Of course, comic book movies regularly bring characters back to life in increasingly
01:01off-the-wall ways, so the big question is whether a revival is in store for everyone's
01:05favorite brain-eating symbiote.
01:07Frankly, there's a very easy way to bring Venom back. When he's not bonded to a host,
01:12he's basically a mass of goo, and even a small bit of it is still Venom, even if the bulk
01:17is destroyed. At the beginning of the movie, Colonel Strickland captures a small piece
01:22of the Venom symbiote Venom left behind at the bar in Mexico.
01:25In the post-credits scene, we see a shattered vial very similar to the one Strickland used
01:30to capture that bit of goo. This final piece could easily bring Venom back, growing in
01:34mass until it's able to bond with Eddie in New York.
01:38Or if Tom Hardy wants out of the franchise, the symbiote could bond to someone else, as
01:42there's been no shortage of hosts in the comics. Maybe that piece of symbiote could meet up
01:46with Flash Thompson or Mac Gargan to keep the character going. If Knull's going to continue
01:51being a threat, it only makes sense for Venom to still be around.
01:54What's his name, then?
01:55No.
01:56No!
01:57It's tricky to answer whether symbiotes can die at all, honestly. They technically can,
02:04but rarely do. Symbiotes are weak to fire and high-frequency noises, so one would assume
02:08enough fire would be enough to kill one. Either that, or someone could blast a symbiote with
02:13enough loud sounds to separate it from a host and find a way to kill it. Even then, symbiotes
02:18are still very difficult to fully destroy.
02:21One of the powers of Venom, and every other symbiote, is a healing factor. They can heal
02:25both themselves and their hosts from wounds or illnesses.
02:29Do not listen to him. I can fix it.
02:33I can heal you.
02:35It does have its limits, though. Lots of symbiotes have apparently died in the Venom movies.
02:39The ending of the first film sees Riot get incinerated after a rocket fuel tank ruptures.
02:44Venom also defeats Carnage by using Shriek's sonic screams to separate the symbiote from
02:48Cletus Kasady. Venom then eats Carnage. Venom The Last Dance also sees several symbiotes
02:53meet their dooms by getting eaten by Xenophages, aliens specifically designed to kill symbiotes.
02:59While it's definitely possible Venom is fully dead, it's not likely to stick for another
03:03key reason — profitability. He's quite simply a very popular character, so even when he
03:09has been killed off in the comics, he's always bounced right back, or it hasn't really counted.
03:14One example of Venom dying in the comics is the story Venom The End, in which he also
03:18sacrifices himself to create a new reality as the old one is destroyed. That story is
03:23set in the far future, though, and when his hosts have died or moved on, he's just bonded
03:28to someone else. Venom has also died in other movies and video games, but also maybe not.
03:34In director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man defeats Venom by throwing a bomb into the
03:38symbiote. This ends up burning and destroying most of Venom, but he may not fully be dead.
03:43Dr. Kurt Connors is seen studying a piece of the symbiote, so part of Venom is still
03:47out there. The same could be said of the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 video game, where even though
03:52Venom supposedly dies, a piece of him could still be out there somewhere. That's all he
03:57needs.
