00:00From unknown fates to a hint that we might be seeing more of a certain alien race that
00:05everyone knows from the comics, it seems that Venom The Last Dance is only the beginning.
00:10After audiences get acquainted with Null in the opening sequence of Venom The Last Dance,
00:14we see Eddie Brock still at the bar within the MCU.
00:17It appears he's getting a recap of what all's been going on there in the last few years,
00:21as he references a purple alien and stones.
00:24This is obviously Thanos and his Infinity Stones, but Eddie insists aliens don't care
00:29about stones — the one he's familiar with is more interested in brains.
00:33The bartender insists it all really happened, and his family disappeared for five years
00:37during the blip.
00:38If you've got a sense of deja vu, that makes sense, given this is the same conversation
00:42Eddie has in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man No Way Home.
00:45You know what aliens love?
00:47Eating brains!
00:48Because that's what they do.
00:49Of course, the scene ends by setting up the symbiote's inclusion in the MCU proper, as
00:54we eventually see a little bit of Venom's goo get left behind after Eddie gets sucked
00:58back into his own reality.
01:00Eddie winds up in his own universe, where the bartender has a different hairstyle, and
01:04it doesn't take long for Venom to leave behind yet more goo at the bar that's eventually
01:08captured by Strickland.
01:10We have a feeling all this goo-dropping is going to be very important going forward in
01:14both the MCU and Sonyverse.
01:16For years, there's been talk of superhero fatigue.
01:20It's open to interpretation whether we've hit that point yet, but it does appear as
01:24though some viewers are experiencing multiverse fatigue.
01:27The MCU is currently in its multiverse saga as it barrels toward Avengers Secret Wars
01:32and the same concept has been used in the animated Spider-Verse movies, as well as the
01:37DC Extended Universe.
01:38Now we've officially reached a point where comic book movies are aware of how many people
01:42are tired of the trope.
01:44Still, that doesn't mean the studios are going to stop cranking them out anytime soon.
01:48Over the summer of 2024, Deadpool and Wolverine took plenty of potshots at the concept, with
01:54Wade Wilson explicitly stating how the multiverse just wasn't working.
01:58I smell what you're stepping in, Sensei.
02:01Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever.
02:05Now Venom is getting in on the fun.
02:07While Eddie's still at the bar in the beginning of the film and making himself a drink, the
02:11symbiote mentions how he's so done with this multiverse s----.
02:15These multiverse jokes seem to be a way for studios to have their cake and eat it, too.
02:19They recognize this trope is quickly overstaying its welcome, but they're not going to stop
02:23doing it because it makes it really easy to cram in cameos from other franchises.
02:28If Venom's over the multiverse after one excursion to another reality, we can't help but wonder
02:33how audiences feel when every other superhero property deals with it.
02:37The Venom The Last Dance trailer had many things that didn't make sense at the time.
02:41Chiefly among these is the inclusion of several actors who have already appeared in Marvel
02:46properties.
02:47She would tell Edgier Thor, who played Baron Mordo in the Doctor Strange films, as well
02:50as Reese Evans, who played Dr. Kurt Connors, aka Lizard, in The Amazing Spider-Man.
02:56Theories quickly emerged that Edgier Thor must be a variant of Mordo in Venom 3, but
03:00that's not the case.
03:02Edgier Thor is a completely different character, which makes sense because Venom is firmly
03:06in a different universe than the MCU.
03:08Strickland just so happens to look like Mordo in the MCU.
03:12And since he bites the dust by the film's conclusion, it's not like he's suddenly going
03:15to learn magic in a future film to become Mordo in the Sony-verse.
03:19Evans is another interesting casting choice because he's more intrinsically linked to
03:23the Spider-Man franchise.
03:25Again, fans developed theories suggesting how this character could be Connors on the
03:28run or something.
03:30His name's Martin, and he's a family man who just wants to take his family to see Area
03:3451 before it's demolished.
03:36There doesn't appear to be any multiverse trickery, but perhaps casting them was an
03:40intentional choice to demonstrate how the Venom movies exist as their own thing.
03:45After Eddie and Venom get dropped off in Las Vegas, Venom shows off his knowledge of movie
03:49history.
03:50He references Rain Man in that he believes he can win a ton of money gambling.
03:53He also says,
03:54"...yeah, baby!"
03:55in what appears to be his best attempt at an Austin Powers impression.
03:58Plus, after Eddie gets a suit upgrade, Venom mentions,
04:01"...we are so money!"
04:03a nod to the 1996 film, Swingers.
04:05"...Baby, you are so money, and you don't even know it."
04:09It's possible Eddie and Venom spent a lot of time watching movies over the past year
04:12they've been bonded, even though they've been quite busy over that time.
04:16Then again, if Venom has access to Eddie's thoughts, it's possible he's able to access
04:20his knowledge of those movies and quote them.
04:23Even if Eddie hasn't seen those movies, one of Venom's many powers is to peer into the
04:27symbiote hive mind, so he may be able to know about those movies from others of his kind.
04:32Regardless, Venom enjoys the fruits of Earth Cinema, and it's appropriate Venom quotes
04:36Swingers as the film star's Jon Favreau, who plays Happy Hogan in the MCU.
04:41Everything is connected in the multiverse, even if it's the most tangential of ways.
04:46Venom isn't exactly the most discreet symbiote around, and when Eddie's trying to get inside
04:50of a casino, Venom knocks out a couple of guys.
04:53They steal the tuxedo off one of these men, and when Venom talks about how sexy Eddie
04:57looks, he responds,
04:58"...I've won sexy man awards before."
05:01We're not sure what awards Eddie would have won in-universe.
05:04Sexiest man who's ever crawled into a lobster tank?
05:07"...Horror!"
05:09This seems to be more of a meta-reference to the fact Tom Hardy was dubbed the UK's
05:13sexiest man alive in 2021, beating out the likes of Daniel Craig and several other Toms,
05:19like Tom Holland and Tom Hiddleston.
05:212021 just so happens to be the year that Venom Let There Be Carnage came out, so maybe Hardy
05:26was on voters' minds to win the honor.
05:29It would be funny if Hardy went specifically for his role as Eddie Brock, because he usually
05:33doesn't look so dapper in these movies.
05:36He's usually very sweaty and looking like he just rolled out of bed, but hey, maybe
05:40that works for some people.
05:42Some fans have had an idea what role Toxin was going to play in Venom The Last Dance
05:46since the previous film.
05:47While it initially seems as though Mulligan dies during the final battle, his eyes turn
05:52blue, suggesting he's bonded with the symbiote Toxin.
05:56"...Monsters."
05:59We see what happens to him in The Last Dance as Mulligan is transported to the underground
06:03base of Area 55.
06:06Before Null was revealed as the big bad, there was a lot of chatter online about how Toxin
06:10could be the villain.
06:12But that's not what happens.
06:14Toxin has acted as an antagonist within the comics, but he also turns into more of a heroic
06:18figure at certain points.
06:19This can be seen in the 2005 Toxin limited series, from writer Peter Milligan and artist
06:25Derek Robertson, when he and Mulligan track down Razorfist, who's escaping from the Raft.
06:31It's this more benevolent iteration that gets adapted in Venom The Last Dance.
06:36After the Xenophage wreaks havoc at Area 55, Toxin gets released and actually tries to
06:40fend off the Xenophage to keep it from Venom and the Codex that could release Null.
06:45Toxin ultimately dies, but he shows how symbiotes aren't inherently bad.
06:50Soon, other symbiotes get released from the lab to help Venom take down the Xenophage
06:54so Null remains locked up — for now.
06:57Even though Venom The Last Dance has been marketed as the final Venom film, it definitely
07:01seems to be setting up a lot for the future.
07:03This includes Null's introduction, but Strickland seems to have some shadowy bosses lurking
07:08in the corner as well.
07:09There are a couple of scenes featuring people watching what's happening in a dark room,
07:13and Strickland references an Imperium program.
07:16Drawing from Marvel Comics, this could suggest the Shi'ar alien race will feature into Sony's
07:20Spider-Man universe moving forward.
07:22The Shi'ar Empire, known as the Imperium, is an aggressive force that aims to rule over
07:27other cultures and worlds.
07:29A big component of the Shi'ar is to marry other cultures to make the Empire stronger.
07:34Conquered worlds are allowed to self-govern, provided they don't run afoul of the overarching
07:38Shi'ar rule.
07:39Setting aside any sticky rights issues with Disney, what if those shadowy figures were
07:43actually Shi'ar?
07:45They could have been using Strickland as a means to conquer Earth, and with the notice
07:48that Null aims to get out of his imprisonment, it would have given them an extra incentive
07:52to kill Venom and Eddie to prevent Null from getting out.
07:56They may not necessarily care about Earth, but they don't want anyone else encroaching
08:00on her potential future territory.
08:02The Shi'ar have been part of many Marvel storylines since their introduction in Uncanny X-Men issue
08:07number 97, by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, so there's no shortage of ways for them to
08:13become incorporated in future movies.
08:15The Shi'ar were one of many alien races we wanted to see incorporated into the MCU, but
08:21we may have to make do with the Sony-verse instead.
08:24Venom was the very first symbiote introduced in Marvel Comics, and he was a big hit.
08:28It shouldn't have been too surprising that Marvel wanted to capitalize on his popularity
08:32and expand upon the mythology.
08:34This included adding a ton of other symbiote characters into the comics, several of which
08:39have already appeared in other Venom movies like Riot and Carnage.
08:43Venom the Last Dance brings in a ton of more symbiotes, but the difference this time is
08:47that they're not fighting against Venom.
08:49Just like Toxin, they're trying to help him in the final act to stop Null from obtaining
08:53the Codex.
08:54We see the symbiotes initially suspended in various containing units, but after the Xenophage
08:59causes mayhem, they're released and promptly bond with nearby human hosts.
09:04They don't exactly get proper introductions, but based on color schemes, we can surmise
09:08that Phage and Agony are part of the mix.
09:11Lasher is likely the symbiote that attaches to Clock Bako's scientist character, as the
09:15symbiote draws from her Christmas tree pin to turn her into a green and red figure, which
09:20is its color scheme in the comics.
09:22As tends to be the case with any high-profile blockbuster, there were tons of rumors and
09:26reported leaks running up to the release of The Last Dance.
09:29As is also often the case, many of them didn't come to pass in any shape or form.
09:34One rumor suggested the film would finally introduce Peter Parker, with Eddie meeting
09:38a young version of the character, only to realize that Peter has to kill him one day
09:42due to his access to the multiversal hive mind.
09:44Maybe I should go to New York and speak to this, uh, Spider-Man."
09:52Of course, they'd have a change of heart and try to protect Peter from some larger threat,
09:57Despite this interconnected franchise being called Sony's Spider-Man Universe, there's
10:00still no Spidey to be found.
10:02There is a young boy in the film who's Martin's son, but he isn't Peter.
10:06After Venom's death by acid, destroying the Codex and keeping Earth safe from Null for
10:10the time being, Eddie does wind up in New York.
10:13This could put him on a collision path to meet up with Morbius and Madam Web.
10:17Since Venom's dead, there may not really be a reason for them to try to meet up with Eddie.
10:21But if that post-credits scene suggests what we think it suggests, it's only a matter of
10:25time until the Lethal Protector returns.
10:28The mid-credits scene for The Last Dance sees Null ominously monologuing before finally
10:32lifting up his head so that we can finally see his face.
10:35It definitely hints there are larger plans for him, and they may very well include Venom.
10:40Much of the marketing surrounding the film has emphatically stated how it's the last
10:44Venom movie, and the story does seem to wrap things up.
10:47Venom sacrifices itself, killing the Xenophages in the process, to protect Earth and Eddie.
10:52Eddie's now in New York, where he could seemingly start a normal life, but there may be other
10:56things in store.
10:58The post-credits scene sees a bartender from the beginning of the film escape from Area
11:0255.
11:03Next, we focus on a cockroach around a broken vial, and we think this is the container Strickland
11:08used to capture a piece of Venom that was left behind at the bar.
11:12Cockroaches are known for being resilient and withstanding heavy doses of radiation,
11:16as Dr. Payne spoke about earlier in the film.
11:18The same could be said of symbiotes, and there's a piece of Venom still out there that could
11:22make its way across the country to meet up with Eddie in New York.
11:25This could finally set the stage for Venom and Spider-Man doing battle, or Venom joining
11:29forces with the Sinister Six.
11:32Even if it's the last Venom movie, the character might still appear elsewhere.
11:36After all, it would kind of be weird to finally bring in Null, not of the most famous symbiotes
11:40as part of his future appearances.
