Will there be Joker 3? Understand the final scene

Todd Phillips was cautious in stating that he was not planning a third chapter in the story of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), and the actor himself also declined a possible return to the character's universe. The closing scene of Delirio a Dois, however, leaves a loose end to tease fans.

The sequel to the 2019 film picks up right where the first left off. Arthur Fleck is in prison and awaiting trial for killing four people, one of them on national television. He meets his romantic partner Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga), affectionately nicknamed Lee. The two experience love with ups and downs.

The songs help the viewer get into Fleck's head when he embodies the Joker, who enchants fans so much that they call for his freedom. However, after being duly tried and returned to jail after an escape attempt, the villain is surprised by an inmate who showed support for him - played by Connor Storrie.

The character, until then an extra, asks to tell Arthur Fleck a joke when he is sad and resigned to his fate. Visibly altered, the boy surprises Fleck with several stab wounds to his stomach as he completes the riddle. The viewer is then transported to a musical sequence in which the Joker tells Harleen that he would like a son to carry on his legacy.

The final scene of Joker: Delirium for Two puts a definitive end to the villain played by Joaquin Phoenix. The camera focuses on the petrified look of the dead Arthur Fleck, while his killer laughs in the background, very Joker-style. The outcome opens up the possibility that the antagonist's "shadow" left Fleck and took on another body.

In an interview with Deadline at the release of Delirium for Two, Joaquin Phoenix said he was too old to undergo another physical transformation for the Joker. The actor, who appears very thin on stage, had to follow a strict diet to lose weight and achieve all the drama that the character demands.

"I'm not going to talk about the specifics of my diet, but this time it was more complicated than the last one, also because I was doing dance rehearsals at the same time as I had to lose a lot of weight. I'm 49 years old, so I probably shouldn't do that again. I think the time has passed for me", he commented.

The director of Joker (2019) and Delirium for Two argued that the Batman villain's story would not need a third film. Phillips noted that he was satisfied with the result and that he managed to deliver Arthur Fleck's entire arc in both productions. "For me, Arthur's story was told with these films. And as for continuing in the superhero space, I don't think so. Everything I do is dictated by the opportunity to work with actors I love, so I can't say ' never'. But I don't see myself continuing here", agreed the filmmaker.

Write the word "JOKER" in the comments and I'll answer a curiosity about the character for you.
