New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attend the joint press meet organized in New Delhi. Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz said that I visited India roughly 12 months ago for the successful G20 summit under your country’s presidency and I have very fond memories of that event. The same goes for my visit to India in March 2023. The year before that PM Modi visited Germany twice. First as a guest at the G7 summit in Elmau and later to attend the intergovernmental consultations in Berlin. This clearly illustrates the close relations between our countries.

00:00First, we have a bilateral meeting at least once every year.
00:09I visited India roughly 12 months ago on the occasion of the summit of the successful G20
00:15presidency of your country, and I have very fond memories of that event.
00:19The same is true for my visit in India in March 2023.
00:24And the year before that, you visited Germany twice, first as a guest at the G7 summit in
00:29Elmau, and later that year, you came to Germany to attend the intergovernmental consultations
00:35in Berlin.
00:36That is a very impressive illustration of how close relations are between both our countries.
00:4125 years ago, we created the strategic partnership between Germany and India.
00:47Our cooperation has become ever more trusting, solid, and substantial, growing together with
00:54innovation, mobility, and sustainability.
00:57That is the motto of the seventh Indo-German intergovernmental consultations that have
01:02taken place today.
01:03It is a fitting motto because it illustrates the extent to which India and Germany both
01:09profit in equal measure, benefit in equal measure from this good and trusting cooperation.
01:15This is especially true for the field of economic ties.
01:18Germany has become India's most important trading partner in the European Union, and
01:22I'm determined to further strengthen and build on this link and cooperation.
01:28I have with me, as members of my delegation, a high-level business delegation that has
01:33seized the opportunity to engage bilaterally with India's industry and business.
01:38And parallel to our consultations, an Asia-Pacific conference of German businesses is taking
01:42place here in Delhi.
01:44This offers an excellent stage on which the German business community can present itself
01:49as a reliable partner for the future of your country and our country.
01:54We have a clear message for the entrepreneurs in both our countries.
01:58There is enormous potential to further build and expand trade and investment between both
02:03our economies.
02:04And as Chancellor, I strongly favor an ambitious FTA, free trade agreement between India and
02:11the European Union.
02:12I believe that both sides would benefit, and it should be our ambition to make headway
02:16in that regard.
