00:00Colleen is set to bring historic rain that will trigger even more flooding.
00:05Mind-blowing historic amounts of rainfall and flooding across western North Carolina.
00:11Water, mud, debris everywhere. Entire roads and communities decimated.
00:19Hey everybody. We are driving to the Garen Creek Fire Department.
00:27As you can see, it is very devastated here.
00:35There's still areas that we've driven past that were flooded.
00:41We've all seen the news. We've all seen the photos and the devastation.
00:45What was it like seeing it in person?
00:47It's worse than I thought it was going to be.
00:50There's some people that have their power back with no water.
00:53Having water is a pretty essential thing to have.
00:56And then you go up into the mountains a little bit deeper, the landslides happen.
01:01It was a six foot wide creek that is now at least a hundred feet wide.
01:08With miles down the hill of everything that was in its path got destroyed.
01:14And just people's stuff just piled up in the middle of trees and all that.
01:19You've got to think that some people that were just barely getting by before,
01:23and now everything they had is now gone.
01:25I don't even know what to say to these people.
01:27Yeah, you can't.
01:28So that's why we wanted to get a plan together for people like that for a long term fix.
01:33Can you share how the Joey Logano Foundation and yourself stepped in
01:37to take that initiative and help those folks in western North Carolina?
01:41Anytime something is close to home, it hits a little differently.
01:44And we go up there quite frequently as a family.
01:47And when it hits something close to home, you start seeing these pictures of places you recognize
01:51that are underwater or completely destroyed.
01:53You want to help.
01:55We are going to invest in that community.
01:57And so many people right now are willing to help out, which is awesome.
02:02But we want to help out where it's going to matter the most
02:06and put together a long term plan for not just the moment,
02:11but let's look three months down the road, six months down the road, a year down the road.
02:15How do we help support these families that are still going to be there?
02:18So Convoy of Hope is who we've teamed up before with getting people.
02:21Water is still a problem up there.
02:23I said not even just the water lines, but just people drinking water.
02:25We partnered with a couple churches.
02:27Mayhem Mission is one of them that we really feel very strongly about.
02:32How much support have you felt from fans of yours
02:35who saw your call to action on social media from the racing community,
02:38from this industry and just around North Carolina?
02:41Have you felt the support?
02:43I don't need the support. They need the support.
02:46For some families, normal will never happen again.
02:49They will have to come up with a new normal
02:51because you can't bring back the people you lost.
02:54And that's the saddest and worst part about the whole thing.
02:58Everybody has the ability to help in one way or another.
03:02There is an amazing amount of cleanup work that's up there
03:05that will take years to clean up.
03:07If there's one good thing about a crisis,
03:10it's to see everybody come together and put all their differences aside.
03:14People were flying in from the other side of the country.
03:19They flew into a disaster that has no water, no power, and just to help people.
03:25It's so cool to think that there's that much kindness in our world still.
