00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Really lovely
00:07this afternoon to speak to Andrew White. Stand up on your first big professional debut tour,
00:13which is a landmark moment, isn't it? And you're coming to Brighton. Andrew, why the
00:19big tour now? What happened that you've got the momentum?
00:22Yes, well, I've been doing lots of projects with other people, like I'm doing tour support
00:28for Kerry Pritchard-McLean, and I'm working on the Trusty Oggs podcast, which has got
00:33quite a big following. And yeah, I thought if I could just entice a few people along
00:37from those bigger projects into a little smaller room, and I'll start building my own audience
00:42and my own tour. And yeah, I'm also, I've been doing comedy for about 10 years. And
00:46I think this is the show I'm most proud of, and that I'm actually thinking, oh, I think
00:52I really want to do this.
00:53So it was that urge to take it that little bit further then, clearly?
00:57Exactly. Yeah, I want to, I want to tour as a long term goal. You know, that's the, that's
01:03the dream really, keep touring bigger and bigger venues. So yeah, got to start somewhere.
01:07And you've got a cracking name for the tour, Andrew White, Young, Gay, and a Third Thing.
01:13That's a brilliant title. Explain that one. Where did that come from?
01:16Well, it's actually a direct quote from somebody in the industry, who will remain nameless.
01:23But yes, they, in trying to surmise me for producers, for casting directors, whatever,
01:28they said, oh, you know, you're young, gay, and a third thing.
01:31How did you cope with that?
01:35At the time, I was very new to sort of the professional comedy, and I just let that wash
01:42over me. But yeah, this shows a bit of a reflection on that, that idea, that absurd encapsulation
01:48of who I am into just three words. And also, there's lots of funny, silly stories along
01:53the way.
01:54Absolutely. But you've got a ready made third element for that, young, gay, and?
02:00Funny, yes. I will try my best to be funny. And I think it is a really good show. I do
02:07really love it. I did about five dates at the Edinburgh Fringe. And I just, that's part
02:11of the reason for the tour as well, is it had such a short run at Edinburgh that I wanted
02:15to give it more life, because I think there was still more to give from the show.
02:19Fantastic. Well, good luck with the tour. Let's chat again next time you play Sussex.
02:23Lovely to speak to you, and I hope it goes brilliant.
02:25Thank you so much. Cheers, Phil.
