00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and today we are counting down our picks for the moments in action films
00:12where characters rapidly killed a lot of people.
00:27Being forced to fight to the death for entertainment is hard enough, but getting stuck in the arena
00:31with ex-Roman General Maximus Meridius pretty much guarantees you're going to lose.
00:36Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, is nothing short of a killing machine, and in this scene
00:40he showcases his talents, slicing through multiple gladiators in less than one minute.
00:50After decapitating his final victim, Maximus antagonises a crowd bored with a fight that
00:55ended so quickly.
00:56Shame on you, Rome, we are most definitely entertained.
01:12He may be getting on in years, and this may have been the franchise's fourth instalment,
01:16but we have never seen Rambo kill like this before.
01:19In this scene, a group of missionaries and the mercenaries that set out to rescue them
01:23are at the mercy of the vicious Tatmadaw army when Rambo appears on the scene, decapitating
01:28his first enemy before taking the helm of a jeep-mounted .50 calibre machine gun.
01:36From there, we watch heads blow up and bodies tear in half as Rambo takes out the entire
01:41army.
01:42Oh, and did we forget to mention that he disembowels a guy?
01:44Yeah, that happens too.
01:51The precocious young vigilante, Hit Girl, kills
01:58quite a few people in this dark superhero movie, and her assault on Mafia boss Frank
02:02D'Amico's headquarters sees her go all out.
02:06After arriving at the right floor, Hit Girl kills the initial goons in dramatic fashion
02:10– using a knife on a rope, believe it or not.
02:18During the scene, Hit Girl takes on a full hallway of guards.
02:20Dual-wielding pistols, she bounces off the shelves and the thugs themselves, killing
02:25her way through a dozen or so before finally running out of bullets.
02:38Just what are you hiding in there?
02:39Django, a vigilante cowboy, surprised everyone – especially audiences – when he opened
02:44the coffin he'd been dragging around the whole movie to reveal one serious beast of
02:48a minigun.
02:56Taking aim at Major Jackson and a horde of bandits closing in, Django lets loose, gritting
03:01his teeth and dropping those bad guys to the floor.
03:04Extra points go to the innocent town folk, who just look on with their faces set to stun.
03:27Getting revenge on a group of shadowy assassins is no simple task, but Wesley Gibson certainly
03:32makes it look easy.
03:33He rams his way into their hideout with a garbage truck, and despite taking heavy fire,
03:37releases a horde of rats wired with explosives.
03:47Wesley uses the distraction to kill his way through the textile mill and everyone inside
03:51it.
03:52Between the parkour moves, slow motion and using the guns while upside down, Wesley's
03:55rampage through the fraternity's base makes for one deadly spectacle.
03:59He even caps it off with a duel with a butcher.
04:10This John Woo classic has several intense shootouts with high body counts.
04:14One of them is the opening teahouse gun battle, but the shootout scene set in a hospital goes
04:19even harder.
04:20Policemen, Tequila and Alan work together to take down triad members who've taken
04:24a hospital staff and patients hostage.
04:26The duo make their way through several corridors and floors, gunning down every bad guy in
04:30sight.
04:37Best of all, a great deal of the scene was done in one take, with stunts, broken glass
04:42and slow motion all in one shot.
04:48This Indian historical epic is loaded with awesome action scenes, but its finale easily
05:05has the highest body count.
05:06Revolutionaries Ram and Bheem are surrounded while sheltering in a forest.
05:10However, what the British army doesn't know is that they are basically superheroes.
05:23The pair use arrows, a spear, fire, grenades and even a motorcycle to kill their way through
05:28the coloniser foes.
05:30Is it a little over the top?
05:31Yeah, but that's what makes it so fun.
05:33This scene is a high-octane spectacle, as each new, seemingly impossible feat they perform
05:38just makes them look even cooler.
05:52The fights are brutal and frequent in this spiritual cousin to the Reed films.
05:56When ex-triad member Ito comes knocking at a warehouse being used by his former organisation,
06:01the bodies start stacking up quickly.
06:08Despite being vastly outnumbered, he uses everything he can lay his hands on to kill
06:13every henchman that comes after him.
06:15Machetes, billiard balls, a shotgun, hooks, you name it, he uses it.
06:19There are some truly gnarly deaths in this sequence, but the creative camerawork and
06:22intensity of the action make his rampage a satisfying one.
06:30V kills Creedy's men, V for Vendetta.
06:37The titular freedom fighter slash terrorist kills many people in this one-man crusade
06:41to overthrow an alternate Britain's fascist regime.
06:44In his final confrontation with Peter Creedy, the head of the secret police, V outdoes himself.
06:50After refusing to remove his mask, V promises that once their guns are empty, he'll still
06:54be standing and they'll all be dead.
07:06Sure enough, when it's his turn, V cuts through Creedy's goons with nothing but
07:10his knives.
07:11The slow-motion trails left by the knives to the air are wonderfully stylised, and V's
07:16rampage doesn't end until he snaps Creedy's neck.
07:19Ideas are bulletproof, and so is this fantastic scene.
07:34The finale of this crime film is the stuff of legend.
07:38Drug lord Tony Montana is attacked in his mansion by men sent by his supplier, Sosa.
07:42The men kill Tony's sister and guards, leaving Tony to take them on alone with a grenade
07:47launcher-equipped rifle, all while he's high on his own supply.
07:55After introducing the attackers to his little friend, Tony mows through them, but more just
07:59keep coming.
08:00Even after losing his weapon and being shot multiple times, Tony doesn't go down, until
08:04an assassin shoots him in the back.
08:06It's two killing sprees in one famous scene.
08:18A prime example is the montage as he searches for Francis, but DP's killing spree when
08:25he catches up to the man who disfigured him is even better.
08:32The spree sees Deadpool ambushing a convoy, fighting goons inside an SUV, then amid the
08:38wreckage on an overpass.
08:39He even flexes on them by counting down his remaining bullets.
08:47The over-the-top action, combined with Deadpool's irreverent jokes, make this a gloriously entertaining
08:52sequence.
08:53It was actually based on test footage leaked to the public a few years earlier, which helped
08:56get the movie made in the first place.
09:05An island full of soldiers versus one Arnold.
09:07Well, our money's on the Governator.
09:10In this scene, Colonel John Matrix kills lots of bad guys with his trusty machine gun, and
09:14takes advantage of some well-placed garden tools, and uses his fists, and shoots some
09:19more.
09:20But our favourite of his kills is all about creativity.
09:26Using that Mr Olympia strength, Matrix breaks off a steam pipe and launches it right into
09:31the chest of a very unfortunate bad guy.
09:43The finale of this often-overlooked dystopian action film sees John Preston captured by
09:47the totalitarian government he once served.
09:50However, this was all part of his plan to get close to the regime's leader.
09:54Preston makes his way to the dictator's office, taking on a hallway of guards.
10:04Everything about the sequence, from the outlandish reloads to the expertly choreographed gun
10:08cutter movements, is outrageous, yet effortlessly cool.
10:12Preston may run out of ammo by the end, but that's only because, like his killing spree,
10:16he's firing on all cylinders.
10:23One shootout, a better tomorrow.
10:28We wouldn't smirk if we were you, not in front of a Mark Lee-seeking revenge.
10:32With two guns and a steely look of determination, Lee opens fire on the criminals that wronged
10:37him.
10:38But that's not where the real magic starts.
10:40After running out of bullet, Lee retrieves a gun he'd stashed in a potted plant.
10:44Not once, but twice, and unloads more hot lead.
10:47The sounds of single screams and the juxtaposition of dark red blood on the pure white setting
10:52create a visual effect that is mesmerising.
10:54Seriously, who knew plants were so dangerous?
11:09You could argue that this entire first-person action movie is one long killing spree, but
11:13this scene is a definite highlight.
11:15Faced with a telekinetic A-canon and his army of super soldiers, Henry shoots his way through
11:19them and blows up a rooftop barricade.
11:21The super soldiers get up again, but Henry injects himself with adrenaline and goes to
11:26town.
11:32He uses rubble, a fan, and whatever else he can to mow down his foes.
11:36All while Queen's Don't Stop Me Now plays in the background.
11:39Although A-can eventually puts an end to the festivities, this is still a scene that we
11:43don't want to stop at all.
11:49One ruthless crime lord, 20 elite cops, 30 floors of hell.
11:57I mean, that is a tagline that tells you everything you need to know about this action-lover's
12:00dream movie.
12:01And nothing captures its spirit of mayhem and tenement pandemonium more than the brutal
12:06ass-kicking that occurs in the seventh floor hallway.
12:19Armed with a baton, knife and expert martial arts skills, Officer Rama finds creative ways
12:24to stab every member of a seemingly endless supply of dangerous attackers to their gruesome
12:28deaths.
12:29And when you have these kind of skills, who needs guns?
12:44How do we even begin to describe the carnage that ensues when Neo and Trinity roll up to
12:48security, fully stocked with every gun imaginable?
12:51The two take turns blowing away soldiers, taking advantage of their heightened powers
12:55in the Matrix.
13:02Bullets aren't the only things falling to the ground, as the entire lobby explodes and
13:06bits of concrete blast in every direction.
13:08Utilising slow motion, the Wachowskis create a truly unique shootout experience.
13:13All we can say is, thank God Neo took the red pill.
13:27Going to a radicalised church for a hate group and expecting everything to go smoothly might
13:31not be your brightest idea, Kingsman agents, but thank the Lord it gave us this amazing
13:36all-out brawl.
13:37This crazy scene took a full week to film, and involved almost 100 extras and 20 stuntmen.
13:47What makes this scene special is its appearance as a single chaotic tracking shot, following
13:52Agent Hart as he shoots, stabs, lights on fire and pretty much finds every way in the
13:56book to kill.
13:57All set to the intense guitar riffs of Freebird.
14:00And what a scene it is.
14:02Very John Wick indeed.
14:14So speaking of John Wick, killing sprees are basically the premise of the John Wick movies,
14:19so there were many we could have chosen.
14:21The museum showdown in Chapter 2 has a virtually unmatched body count for the series.
14:25The dragon's breath sequence in Chapter 4 has incredible style and bombast, but none
14:30of them quite have the same impact as the original film's red circle club scene.
14:40John Wick hunts down the young Russian mob heir who killed his dog through the club,
14:44all while killing his men with ruthless efficiency.
14:46The music and mood draw us in every time, while the action and gunplay set a new standard
14:51of excellence.
14:52The benchmark by which all other killing sprees in the John Wick franchise are measured.
15:17Quentin Tarantino gave us a wonderful bloodbath with the Candyland Ranch Massacre in Django
15:29Unchained, but our top spot goes to his earlier effort with The Bride.
15:34This ultra-violent fight includes several iconic moments, such as the entrance of Orenishi
15:38and her bodyguards, The Bride's fight with the terrifying 17-year-old Goku Yubari, and
15:43the slaughter of the Crazy 88 with her katana.
15:51She also scalps someone, but, y'know, no big deal.
15:54And we haven't even talked about Tarantino's crazy visual effects, but take our word for
15:58it, they are amazing.
16:00Just remember, do not cross The Bride.
16:07So is there an action movie massacre whose absence is killing you?
16:11Give your maximum effort and share your favourite in the comments.
