00:40County earlier today, two people have been rescued and taken to Kenyatta University Teaching,

00:54The seven-story building was gathered to be housing businesses and residential units

01:41The building had been condemned for demolition, according to Nairobi County officials.

01:47The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the fears of trapped residents on X, while Nairobi Governor

01:52Johnson Sakajan mentioned that one woman standing outside the building was injured but stable.

01:58He added, casualties were expected to be minimal, and evacuation efforts were underway for nearby

02:05residents.

02:06A Nairobi County document from October 16 revealed that the building had been constructed

02:12and occupied without the required approvals.

02:15Residents were ordered to vacate within two weeks, but the building collapsed before the

02:20deadline.

02:21In September 2022, five people were killed when a six-story building fell outside Nairobi,

02:29and in April 2016, 49 people died in a similar incident after heavy rains caused structural

02:36failures.

02:37The deputy governor of Nairobi County City, Indoroj Machere represented the governor,

02:43Sakajan Johnson, by visiting the site of the building site on Sunday.

02:48During the visit, local media reported that the deputy governor observed the ongoing search

02:54and rescue operations, which have been efficiently mobilized with all the necessary equipment

04:1811 a.m., Governor Sakajan said, Nairobi City County and multi-agency rescue teams continue

04:24search and rescue operations at the site of the collapsed building in Kahawa West.

04:30All required equipment has been assembled and mobilized.

04:34Nairobi County Deputy Governor, His Excellency Indoro Machere is on site alongside the teams.

04:42Casualties are expected to be minimal as the building had been condemned and evacuations

04:46effected by the Nairobi City County's Planning Enforcement Team.

04:51So far, only one casualty has been reported, a middle-aged lady who was outside the building

04:58was injured by the falling rubble during the collapse.

05:02She is currently undergoing treatment and is stable.
