Government borrowing rose to £16.6 billion last month marking the third highest September borrowing since records began, according to official figures. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said public sector net borrowing was £2.1 billion more than a year earlier.

00:30But in the financial year to date, borrowing stood at £79.6 billion, which is £1.2 billion
00:38more than a year earlier, and £6.7 billion more than forecast by the independent fiscal
00:43watchdog, the Office for Budget Responsibility.
