00:00Good day, you beautiful people. Welcome to Isa Does Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:05Today's video, we're talking about the AirPods 3.
00:08🎶
00:17Apple's newest AirPods are out, and I've had these for a couple of days,
00:20so let's talk about my experience thus far. But first, let's unbox.
00:24🎶
00:27This is pretty straightforward packaging. Apple logo's on the side.
00:30AirPods with MagSafe charging case.
00:32🎶
00:38We have paperwork.
00:41The AirPods itself.
00:42Elsa's in the box.
00:44Ooh.
00:45Lightning to USB-C charging cord.
00:48Let's open this up.
00:50These are very tiny.
00:52🎶
00:55Lightning port at the back.
00:56Signed by Apple in California, assembled in China.
00:59And then you have the pairing button.
01:01Ooh, these are way tinier buds now.
01:33🎶
01:56Connection and setup is really easy.
01:58Opening the case prompts your iPhone to connect,
02:00and from there, you just go through the prompts.
02:02There's also auto-switching on these AirPods,
02:04which means that it should be easy to switch between your Apple devices.
02:07Easy.
02:08Example, when I have my buds and I'm near my laptop,
02:11it'll give me this prompt.
02:12And taking it a step further, I don't actually need to even tap connect.
02:16If I'm wearing the buds, I can easily switch between my MacBook and my iPhone.
02:19For example, it's connected to the MacBook right now.
02:22And then if I start playing to my iPhone,
02:26yeah, it will automatically switch.
02:28These new AirPods have a different shape.
02:31Well, different from the older gen AirPods,
02:33but very similar to the AirPods Pro.
02:35This new case also has MagSafe charging now.
02:38Side by side with AirPods Pro,
02:40you can see that the buds are almost identical,
02:42save for the in-ear bud on the Pro.
02:44That being said, having these buds on are not as intrusive as in-ear buds.
02:49And just like the Pros, because they have shorter stems,
02:51these don't stick out on the sides as much,
02:54though these can be a little loose if you have wonky ears like mine.
02:57Yeah, like in general, my ears have a hard time with all earbuds.
03:02Wonky.
03:03Though these things have a Find My feature for each AirPod,
03:06so that's less chance of losing them.
03:08And I will say I did wear these on a 7R plane ride,
03:12and they surprisingly didn't fall off.
03:14Neither did I lose either bud,
03:16which is great considering I have this irrational fear
03:19of losing one bud in a dark airplane.
03:22Yeah, I still have both of them.
03:24So aside from the redesign, there are new things in these buds.
03:27Adaptive EQ, which means that there is a mic in the buds themselves
03:31so that it hears what your ear is hearing when they're in there.
03:35And it adjusts the audio, basically because we have different ear shapes.
03:38And well, because buds move around in your ear a lot,
03:42this is a great thing because like I said, I have a wonky ear shape,
03:45and well, not all ears are created equal,
03:48and not all buds users can have that perfect ear shape for optimum listening.
03:53Or keeping buds in.
03:55You know what I mean.
03:55So another cool thing is spatial audio.
03:57For example, you're listening to Dolby Atmos,
03:59which is something we all know from watching movies.
04:02You know when you're at the movie house and you're watching a movie,
04:04but the audio comes from all different directions
04:07and not just one particular area,
04:09so you have this immersive listening experience?
04:12Yeah, these buds can do that.
04:13Applied to music, movies, and even FaceTime calls,
04:16it's definitely a cool auditory experience,
04:18one that I particularly was able to enjoy really easily
04:23because Apple Music has set playlists for spatial audio.
04:27Dude, the Rock one is super good.
04:28There are also new skin detect sensors on each bud,
04:31which means that these buds will not only detect when you take out the buds,
04:36but also when you put it in on skin.
04:39So for example, it's playing right now, but if I take it out,
04:43it'll stop.
04:44Put it on like my sweater, it won't play.
04:47So for example, even if I put this in my pocket,
04:49it's not automatically gonna go.
04:51Put it back in, it'll start playing.
04:56But then take it out, it'll stop.
04:58You get the idea.
05:00With the redesign, they also brought the Force Touch feature on here
05:02from the AirPods Pro,
05:04which means no more tapping into your ear for stuff.
05:07AirPods have also been known to have good mics on them,
05:10so I tried it out.
05:11This is how they sound connected to my MacBook.
05:13This is video shot from the photo booth
05:16on my new MacBook 14-inch M1 Pro.
05:19Video that soon, by the way.
05:21And this is how the photo booth normally sounds without the AirPods.
05:25Just for kicks, here is audio being shot with the AirPods mics,
05:30just because I know you guys might be using this to shoot TikToks.
05:34And now, here is audio without the AirPods.
05:39What it didn't bring over from the AirPods Pro
05:41would be active noise cancellation.
05:43I did try these on a plane ride,
05:45and you'd probably be better off with on-ear headphones
05:49with noise cancellation.
05:50And I will admit that because of its design,
05:52the AirPods 3 does not filter outside audio as much,
05:56which makes plane rides an even more challenging scenario for these
05:59because they're not in-ear buds,
06:01and you don't really get that sound seal.
06:03But outside of that not-so-perfect listening scenario,
06:06these buds sound good.
06:08Now, I'm not exactly an audiophile,
06:10but I do know that the sound experience on these
06:13are definitely enjoyable for the average user,
06:15and most definitely better than other cheaper buds I've tried.
06:19Apple claims 6 hours of listening time on the buds themselves,
06:22and 30 more hours with the charging case.
06:25Like I said, I just did a 7-hour plane ride,
06:28and these survived through 2.5 episodes of You,
06:31and 3 episodes of Sex Education.
06:33That's around 4 hours of continuous use,
06:36and well, you can do the math.
06:37But basically, yeah, it was still going after all that
06:40even when I wasn't.
06:43It was enough Netflix for me after that.
06:44And considering that, like I said, I had wonky ears,
06:48I was pretty comfy wearing them.
06:49I didn't actually need to constantly readjust the buds in my ear.
06:53And even if they aren't a tight fit,
06:55since again, these aren't in-ear buds,
06:57audio did sound consistent.
07:00Apple's audio situation has clearer tiers now.
07:03At $179 US, the AirPods 3 are a step higher
07:07than the 2nd generation AirPods that still retail for $129 US.
07:12And then, for more pro consumers,
07:14you have the AirPods Pro and the AirPods Pro Max.
07:17All in all, I think that these new AirPods are a great get
07:19if you're a casual listener like me,
07:21if you're someone who wants a seamless,
07:23comfortable, on-the-go pair.
07:25And specifically, and especially,
07:27if you're already in the Apple ecosystem,
07:30these should be the new baseline pair.
07:34That's it for today, you guys.
