00:00We're checking out Huawei's newest foldable, the Huawei Mate Xs 2.
00:05Good day, you beautiful people.
00:12Welcome to Issa Does Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:15Today's video is pretty exciting.
00:17We have the Huawei Mate Xs 2.
00:20And let me refresh your memory.
00:21Once upon a time, we tested out the Huawei Mate Xs, which is one of Huawei's bigger foldables.
00:27So I'm really excited to see what's new, what's changed, if this is a foldable I can get behind.
00:32Without further ado, let's unbox.
01:26Let's get started.
01:56So like you saw, the Huawei Mate Xs, and the Mate Xs 2, basically handles the whole folding
02:02phone thing differently.
02:04When folded, it's all screen, and it still features that spring-loaded mechanism, which
02:09allows it to open up just like you would a wallet or something.
02:13Always the question when it comes to foldables, yes, it does feel sturdy.
02:17Closing and opening is very satisfying because of that spring-loaded mechanism.
02:20And I like the fact that I know that this phone won't accidentally open or unlock.
02:25The screen on this, despite it being a folded phone, just feels very not a foldable.
02:32You almost don't see the crease when it's unfolded.
02:35And again, it just feels very solid overall.
02:39Another thing about this phone that I need to point out is just how thin it is.
02:43Folded, it just feels like a normal smartphone.
02:47Except it's a normal smartphone, and even the back is all screen.
02:50When unfolded, it's even like way thinner, with only this one area where the cameras
02:56are that's a little thicker.
02:58You guys know that in terms of foldable, I've always liked this smaller form factor like
03:02we see in the P50 Pocket.
03:04But I feel like with this size, I'm able to get behind a bigger foldable, a foldable that
03:11unfolds to get a bigger screen, mostly because for my tiny hands, this is a more comfortable
03:16hold.
03:17And it just feels like a normal bigger phone, which had always been my issue with other
03:21bigger foldables, like using it folded was never really comfortable for me.
03:27Now using the rear cameras, you can also have this preview that allows you to take photos
03:32of other people and see what's going on.
03:36Always useful.
03:37I've always liked that feature, except for some reason this time around, I don't see
03:41the controls with the back preview.
03:44Now the main difference between the new Mate XS2 and the Mate XS was that the Mate XS did
03:48not have a selfie camera.
03:50So any photo taking would have been done with the rear cameras.
03:54On the other hand, this now features a selfie camera on that folding screen.
03:58And so maybe this is why there aren't any controls when taking selfies with the rear
04:02cameras anymore because there is already another selfie camera.
04:06Personally though, I would have still loved the controls when it's folded and shooting
04:11with a preview on the rear cameras.
04:13The Huawei Mate X2 also seemed to have improved using it while folded.
04:18And it was a concern when I checked out the first Huawei Mate XS because every time you'd
04:23unlock the screen, even if it's not fully flat out, it would sort of switch to the full
04:29screen mode.
04:30The Mate XS2, on the other hand, does give you that like half screen mode, which allows
04:35you to stand the phone up and use it that way.
04:39Again, I did have concerns on the Huawei Mate XS, the first one, about how like I would
04:44keep a phone like this inside my purse where like all my keys and everything would be prone
04:49to scratching the all screen phone.
04:52That's also scary because that means that that bendable screen is exposed to the world
04:57every day, even when you use it as just the smaller smartphone and not the tablet.
05:03Huawei has fixed that problem in the form of a really nice case that this phone came
05:07with.
05:08I honestly like how premium this thing looks.
05:11It doesn't feel clunky at all and it serves a really great purpose.
05:15It will protect that screen when the phone is folded and again, you can use it like a
05:20normal phone.
05:21You can still also unfold it for that bigger screen and it just like flips out on the back
05:27and you're good to go.
05:29This is still a multitasking beast.
05:32It allows you to do split screen, it allows floating windows, a dream for people like
05:37me who like doing a lot of things at the same time on their phones.
05:41And finally, yes, this is a Huawei device after all.
05:44So that means you get all your apps on the Huawei App Gallery or Petal Search.
05:48Those are just my initial thoughts.
05:50There is so much to be explored with this phone and I haven't nearly touched the tip
05:55of the iceberg, I think.
05:56In the meantime though, this is my camera tour and some sample shots.
06:01Right, camera tour time, let's get to the camera.
06:05So this is wide, 1x, 3.5x, 5x, up until 30x.
06:12Now as you can see, it does show us AI.
06:16It says portrait because it recognizes that there is a person and up here, you have that
06:22button that allows for a secondary screen.
06:25Now I mentioned earlier, this time around, you don't get the controls when you turn on
06:30secondary screen.
06:31You have AI, you have flash settings, you have different filters, and then up here,
06:37you get even more settings.
06:40On the right, you have video, you have wide, 1x, 4x, 5x, up until 10x and then back to
06:491x.
06:50You have your beauty mode over here on video, you have your secondary screen option, you
06:56have a steady mode up here, you have, oh, motion tracker.
07:03So this allows you to track certain subjects in your video and then flash settings, you
07:09have your different filters and you also can shoot 4K with the rear cameras.
07:15On the right, there is a pro mode that does a wide, up until 30x as well and all your
07:22different settings, you can shoot in RAW, what is this, oh, autofocus assist light on,
07:29you have your different filters and even more settings.
07:33Under more, now there are a lot, you have a slow-mo mode.
07:36So here, you can do 1x, up until 2x, you have your motion detection up here, you can do
07:444x to 32x.
07:47There's a panorama mode, a monochrome mode, AR lens, light painting, basically slow shutter
07:56speed and it gives you like different options for what you can do here.
08:01Have a time-lapse moving picture, stickers, document scanner, a super macro mode and you
08:07can do wide, up until 15x on super macro.
08:12You have a dual view mode that gives you like two different cameras, front and back,
08:18working at the same time and you can also like switch it around depending on what type
08:25or option you'd like.
08:26There's a high-res mode, can you zoom in or out, no, you cannot.
08:32Story creator, this allows for you to create like certain short videos based on like the
08:41templates, always fun to find like fun features like this that make it easier for people to
08:47shoot with these phones with great cameras.
08:50And finally, you have snapshot, what is snapshot, like, okay, just took a photo.
08:59If anyone knows what this mode is for, let me know, right?
09:04Let's move on to the other side.
09:06You have portrait and you can do 1x, no wide, up until 3x, as you can see, the background
09:14is now blurred.
09:15There is a beauty mode over here, effects on the right side.
09:19Also, this allows you to turn on your secondary screen and you have filters and different
09:25settings here.
09:27On the right of that, you have night mode, which can do wide, up until 30x as well.
09:36And then an aperture mode, which can do 1x, 2x, 3x, up until, well, 3x, and you can change
09:44aperture settings from 0.95 to F16, basically the mode you'll be using if you want bokeh
09:50but not on people.
09:52You also have your different filters here.
09:55No selfie mode on aperture mode, you get one on night mode though, no zooming in or
10:00out and it allows for you to turn flash on or off.
10:05You have a portrait mode, can you zoom in, you can do a wide.
10:09There are effects here, beauty mode as well.
10:13You also have flash settings, your different filter.
10:17And then photo, you can do wide and 1x as well, no more zooming in for that.
10:23Video, there's a wide, 1x.
10:27They have a beauty mode and you can shoot, ooh, you can shoot 4K with a front-facing
10:36video, nice.
10:38And then you have pro mode, which doesn't give you a selfie camera.
10:42And we're back to more.
10:44Now let's look at some quick shots with this phone.

11:26Personally loving the form factor and how it just feels like a normal smartphone when
11:32it's folded like this.
