00:01:02You're not bad looking either. I think we're pretty much rocking the place around here in Shanghai.
00:01:07Yeah, welcome back. Five years. It's been five years since we were here with V's in China.
00:01:14We changed locations and we are now set on the river in the West Bund of Shanghai.
00:01:21Amazing location.
00:01:23So, a bit of a history lesson here. There's the actual Bund,
00:01:26which is a bit more up north, actually, here on the Huangpu River.
00:01:29Now, this is the West Bund district, which is an up-and-coming area here.
00:01:32A lot of financial tech, medtech, all the up-and-coming technologies, let's say.
00:01:39Now, we're having a look here at the park that will be ridden by our athletes.
00:01:44And it's a massive one, as you are used to seeing here at V's.
00:01:48This time, I would dare to say that our team at Hurricane Parks went even crazier.
00:01:54Pascal Moras and his crew have been really busy building one of the craziest
00:01:59and best-looking skateparks we've ever had at V's.
00:02:02It's massive. It's full of options and lines.
00:02:05It's going to be very interesting to see what our riders are able to do here on the park.
00:02:11I also heard from Pascal that they've been using new techniques
00:02:15to actually improve on the rigidity of the ramp.
00:02:18So, let's say that all the pump that you put into it, like, get more pop out of it.
00:02:23New kinds of coping, or like the noping.
00:02:26The noping.
00:02:27The noping. And the modularity of it all, because this is a double-use park.
00:02:32But let's first take a watch at the competition format.
00:02:35Yeah, we'll have eight riders here in the finals.
00:02:38I guess they will all go in one after the other.
00:02:42Each rider will have two runs of 50 seconds per rider,
00:02:45and the best score will count. The best of these two runs will count.
00:02:51And you were mentioning our new skatepark technology.
00:02:55So, start-ups are also applying to this freestyle park.
00:02:59We have Pascal being the mad genius here.
00:03:02And it's only one of the many skateparks we have on this massive venue.
00:03:08This is also a double-use park, because we're also using this for the BMX competition.
00:03:14Indeed, which also says something about the magnitude and the sheer size of this course.
00:03:20So, it's always a challenge for the inline skaters to adapt to this massive course.
00:03:27And we'll see how they do.

00:04:26Our very own Blake Bird, Pascal Moraes, who's also the designer of the skatepark,
00:04:30Australian legend CJ Wellsmore, and street maestro Soichiro Kanashima.
00:04:40So, all very experienced, very well-versed in inline skating, roller freestyle, should I call it.
00:04:49And as you can see here, we have some highlights from yesterday.
00:04:53Our riders went all out on the course.
00:04:56We had some big flips, big spins on the main flybox,
00:05:00but then we also had different riders using different parts of the course
00:05:06and all bringing their own little twist to this course.
00:05:11So, it's going to be interesting to see who has the most original line.
00:05:16And we're going to meet all our riders in a second now.

00:06:06We'll see a lot of Japanese riders here in the finals.

00:06:39And she was the sensation yesterday. She skated the park very well.

00:06:50She was fifth in Montpellier this year.
00:06:59She placed third in the World Skate Games in Rome last month.
00:07:05And our third qualifier, from Korea, Jeong So-Ah.
00:07:09And So-Ah destroyed the park yesterday.
00:07:14She placed first, as you saw here.

00:07:38We're still at the West Bund of Shanghai, here in China.
00:07:42We're getting ready for our eight riders to see who's on top in this competition.
00:07:47Who's taking away the gold medal of this F.E.A.S.T. World Series here in Shanghai.
00:07:53And we have quite the lineup.
00:07:55As I said, we have a strong Japanese force representing on the course today.
00:08:00But first qualifier yesterday, Jeong So-Ah from Korea.
00:08:04Taught well by our friend Kevin.
00:08:07She's been growing, she's been skating better and better.
00:08:10Making quite a sensation online and on competitions.
00:08:13And I can't wait to see what the finals are going to be like.
00:08:18Because there's a lot of pressure for everyone to just hold the top spot.
00:08:22But she's proved again and again that she has the shoulders out of her young age.
00:08:29The shoulders to carry all this pressure to a gold medal.
00:08:32Now we're getting ready for the Italian, for Anne-Lim Arrostegui.
00:08:37Now we saw that she took quite a nasty crash in practice.
00:08:41How will that impact this final for her?
00:08:44I hope she's fine. I mean she took it like a strong woman that she is.
00:08:49Like she was able to carry on and make it all the way to these finals.

00:11:00Now if you perform a grind on a box and you don't make it all the way to the other side.

00:11:10Or will it just be like a lower result instead of like the long grind?
00:11:13I think the judges would probably take it into account.
00:11:17Because of course if you grind all the way through and if you flow all the way through the obstacle.
00:11:21Then that goes into like the maximum amount of points you can get in terms of use of the course and flow.

00:11:31And that is Kawasaki Sorachi.

00:11:36One of Takeshi Yasutoko's students.
00:11:42Going through. I saw her perform some nice spins yesterday.
00:11:47But as you can see using the course and finding a thing.
00:11:53That was the main thing that impacted her score yesterday.
00:11:58It's like trying to find the best line in the park.
00:12:01And she's like kind of looking around and trying to find the best way to use the park.
00:12:06But you know like she's rolling around a lot.
00:12:11But not doing so many tricks.
00:12:13And I guess that is why.
00:12:15Although she has like very nice style, very nice flow.
00:12:19She may be lacking a bit of amplitude and a bit of tricks.
00:12:23Missed a flip though.

00:12:31You know what the BMX riders were saying as well.
00:12:33It's a park with a lot of lines.
00:12:35But that might also imply there's too many lines to choose from.
00:12:40Which makes it hard finding your line, the line that you want to ride.
00:12:46But I guess that's the whole point as well.
00:12:48I think that's why Pascal, both on this skatepark and the park we'll be using for the amateur contest and the junior contest.
00:12:54He's trying to offer riders the possibility to really fully express their own personal style of riding.
00:13:01And not force everyone to use the same line over and over.
00:13:04Fly box, quarter pipe, kind of like repeats the same line.
00:13:07And judge people on how big or how hard they can do on these two or three obstacles that everyone will be using.
00:13:15Here it's really open to interpretation and that's what I love.
00:13:18It's really, you know, these sports, these urban sports that we represent here at FISA are all about self-expression.
00:13:25And I think that's why these courses that we have this year are very well suited for the use.
00:13:34To reward the creativity that goes into a line.
00:13:39And let's see what Armel has in store for us.

00:17:41And she was really going her own way through the park.
00:17:44Everything was very clean.
00:17:46Always landing on top of transition, but also throwing some big tricks.

00:17:52That's really, I think, the type of runs that the judges would want to see.

00:22:46I mean, I don't recall any specific example.
00:22:49But for sure, if you're a local and you're used to skating in that type of weather,
00:22:53this hot, humid temperature.
00:22:55I was skating in Bangkok last week.
00:22:57And for sure, the first couple of sessions, you struggle to adjust.
00:23:01And then you watch the locals and they're not breaking a sweat.
00:23:04So obviously, it takes some time to adapt.
00:23:07We've been here for a couple of days, though.
00:23:09And they've had a few open sessions and warm-up practices here on the park.
00:23:14And thankfully, it's still early in the morning.
00:23:16I can only imagine how hot it's going to get through the day.

00:30:57So it's very nice and very refreshing to see the scene growing.
