00:00Melania Trump has been notably absent from the 2024 campaign trail, but her presence
00:06has definitely been felt at times, most recently when J.D. Vance brought her up at a recent
00:11town hall.
00:12Vance has embarrassed himself more than once since becoming Donald Trump's running mate
00:16back in July.
00:17Remember when he ordered donuts in Georgia?
00:19I'm J.D. Vance, I'm running for vice president of CNN.
00:23Or when he dodged a question about Trump in a CNN interview by faking technical difficulties?
00:29So it was a grammar thing?
00:30Sorry, could you repeat that, John?
00:36The Ohio senator has also put his foot in his mouth during speaking engagements.
00:40He may have even now exposed former first lady Melania Trump's true feelings on politics.
00:46In a Fox & Friends interview in September, Melania was asked about her feelings about
00:50husband Donald's political career.
00:52She said,
00:53I support him.
00:54I know how passionate he is to make America great again.
00:59But at an October 16th town hall in Pennsylvania, J.D. told an anecdote about Donald meeting
01:04his wife, Usha Vance, which seemed to contradict Melania's public position.
01:10J.D. said that Donald asked Usha for her take on J.D.'s political career.
01:14J.D. said Usha gave a very diplomatic answer about J.D. loving public service and her wanting
01:19to help him wherever she can.
01:22And Trump looks at her and goes, yeah, my wife hates it too.
01:27Melania's Fox & Friends interview was chiefly to promote her new memoir, simply titled Melania.
01:33Before it was even released on October 8th, the book generated quite a few headlines for
01:37a passage in which Melania reveals her feelings about abortion, which differ greatly from
01:42her husband's stance and the position of the Republican Party at large.
01:46She writes,
01:47It's imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having
01:51children based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the
01:56government.
01:57Melania also explained that she has felt that way for a long time, writing,
02:01Restricting a woman's right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the
02:06same as denying her control over her own body.
02:09I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.
02:13Donald responded to Melania's comments in pretty simple fashion.
02:17We spoke about it, and I said, you have to write what you believe.
02:21I'm not gonna tell you what to do.
02:23J.D. took a somewhat more circuitous route, kind of skirting the topic in remarks to reporters
02:28at a campaign stop in Georgia.
02:31Newsweek reports that J.D. said his and Donald's campaign was prioritizing other issues before
02:35adding,
02:36I think she's going to express her views.
02:38She's entitled to do it.
02:40But it doesn't change how I talk about this issue or how the campaign talks about the
02:44issue.
