00:00Coming off of a big weekend in the sport of boxing, it is now time to figure out what
00:12is next after Artur Beterbiev picks up a win over Dmitry Bivol.
00:18It was a unanimous decision that people got very frustrated by and kind of hated.
00:24So I feel like not enough has been said, and on this show, the show has been guilty of
00:29it as well, not enough has been said about how well Artur Beterbiev did fight in this
00:36one.
00:37I focused on the scoring and all of that, but I do think you have to commend Beterbiev
00:41for going out and getting the win in the biggest fight of his career.
00:46Until what is next for him now.
00:50I am now contradicting a what fights to make one that we did last month, because I have
00:57just accepted that Canelo against David Benavidez probably isn't going to happen.
01:02And at least it's not going to happen in May.
01:05So that leaves both of them open, in my opinion.
01:09And thusly, I think the next fight for Artur Beterbiev, the now undisputed light heavyweight
01:13champion of the world, is against Canelo, Saul Alvarez.
01:18Canelo wants that move up at light heavyweight.
01:22That is the one thing that he has kind of failed at in the last little while.
01:26The other one was fighting Floyd Mayweather.
01:28I don't think you're getting that one back at this point.
01:31So this is the one that he can kind of get on track.
01:36This is the one that he can get back.
01:37It's not against Bival.
01:38And maybe Bival is just that.
01:40That's the one stuck in his mind.
01:42And so that's the only thing he wants to fight.
01:44It's not necessarily kind of accomplishing this feat up at 174 pounds.
01:50It is Bival, specifically.
01:52That is the one.
01:53I think, still, for me, the next fight for Beterbiev is Canelo.
01:58I don't know if there's anyone at light heavyweight… like, I don't know… when you're the undisputed
02:03champ, obviously there's no upward mobility there, as someone in this weight class.
02:08So if you wanted to move up to cruiserweight, like, maybe you could do something there.
02:11And honestly, that wasn't something I looked into, but that would be interesting, I think,
02:14maybe.
02:15But I do think that it'll be Canelo next.
02:19Hopefully not for the undisputed championship, with Canelo coming off of a loss in this division.
02:23And so if you wanted to be a boxing purist and kind of switch it, I would not have any
02:29issue for you.
02:30But I think that while I would love for the championships to be the things that mean the
02:36most here, and worthiness of championship opponent, and that sort of a thing, I think
02:43we can all agree that's not it.
02:45And so this is the biggest fight that Beterbiev can have, when you are coming off of that
02:51win.
02:54I think that that is the one that you can kind of, like, know that this is the biggest
03:00fight for me, money-wise.
03:02Does he deserve it?
03:04In this division, probably not.
03:05But I have just unified all these belts.
03:08So give me a shot at it.
03:10Let's get it done.
03:12That would be, I think, the thing that you really want to kind of go with.
03:18And so, that leaves Bivol, without a dance partner.
03:21It also leaves Benavidez, without a dance partner.
03:23Kind of.
03:24Benavidez does have a fight coming up against David Murrell.
03:29That was announced about ten days ago.
03:31So that one, take care of business there.
03:35And so maybe Bivol gets the winner of that fight.
03:38But I just think now, in terms of what's next for Bivol, I think it's a David Benavidez
03:44bout.
03:45You guys know how I like to kind of set up those kind of tournament things, right?
03:48I think you kind of do this, where Beterbiev faces Canelo.
03:52Winner faces the winner of Bivol against David Benavidez.
03:54Fuck it, load one up and do a gigantic Saudi show off somewhere and have, like, the biggest
04:01main and co-main you can possibly do.
04:03And then winner faces winner, not on the same night.
04:06Although, uh, no.
04:07Winner faces winner.
04:08Loser faces loser.
04:09And we go about it that way.
04:10I think Benavidez, it is just time for him to get a big opponent.
04:14And Bivol has shown that he does not mind being the big opponent for people.
04:18And I think that would be a very intriguing fight.
04:20And so, in the act of fairness, does any of that make sense?
04:25No.
04:26If we were being fair, and quite frankly treating undisputed unified heavyweight, light heavyweight,
04:31whatever, championships the way that they are kind of supposed to be, then this would
04:35be Beterbiev against the winner of Morale against Benavidez.
04:38And you'd go Canelo against Bivol rematch.
04:41And you know what?
04:42Not a bad plan B.
04:43But I just think that Beterbiev, coming off of the biggest win of his career, biggest
04:47payday of his career, would like another big one, and there is no bigger fight in the sport
04:50for him right now, or for almost anyone, than a fight against Canelo Alvarez.
