00:00Hey guys, I'm TomoTechChap and this is the brand new flagship Vivo X80 Pro and to be
00:06honest with you it's one of the most exciting phones I've used so far this year.
00:12Now to be fair I have only had a few hours with this, it arrived yesterday afternoon
00:17so it is very much a first impressions but I wanted to walk you around it, talk about
00:21some of the camera tech inside because it's frankly a bit overwhelming and also just give
00:26you some of my first impressions.
00:28Now as you would expect for a premium flagship phone, on paper this ticks all the boxes.
00:33Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 12GB of RAM, 256GB storage, although not best in class sized 4700mAh battery.
00:41So considering we have some pretty beefy specs and also a big 6.78-inch Quad HD Plus 1-120Hz
00:48LTPO screen, battery life is definitely something I'll be testing properly in my full review.
00:55Although what I can tell you is that we get this in the box, the 80W Flash Charge, every
01:01brand has their own name for their super fast charging and this should top up the phone
01:06in about half an hour from 0-100 and also we get 50W wireless charging as well.
01:11Straight away though you can tell what really makes the Vivo X80 Pro stand out, I mean just
01:16look at that camera module.
01:19I must admit a small part of me still wishes that some of this big glass square could be
01:23hiding a small viewfinder screen, but sadly not.
01:27Although there is still an awful lot going on here, we're getting a quad lens setup and
01:32they've also had some pretty big input from the camera nerds over at Zeiss.
01:36It's actually quite refreshing to have a genuine partnership between a phone and a camera brand,
01:41I mean it's hard to say exactly how much input they have but it seems to be a lot more significant
01:45than some other phone companies, 1 Plus, House of Blood, which just seem to add some filters
01:51and colour profiles in a pro mode.
01:54This goes an awful lot further.
01:57So here's the setup, 4 lenses, with a 50MP main, a 48MP ultra wide, a 12MP dedicated
02:05portrait lens, which is very interesting, plus an 8MP 5x zoom periscope lens.
02:10But that really is just the start, we also get Vivo's custom Ultra Sensing GNV sensor
02:16from the main lens, together with what's called a Zeiss T-Coating on the main lens's glass
02:21to help improve image quality, and there's even a dedicated chip inside here, the Vivo
02:26V1 Plus, which is mainly there to help improve low light video.
02:31It's actually very similar to what we saw in the Oppo Find X5 Pro, with its Marry Silicon
02:36XNPU, which also was a bit difficult to actually understand what it did, but essentially it
02:41improved the noise reduction in low light video, and again I think that's what we're
02:45getting here with that V1 chip.
02:48And it works by offloading what would normally be handled by the Snapdragon chip's ISP,
02:53so we get much more effective and also more efficient noise reduction in video.
02:58We also get this specific Zeiss Gimbal Portrait Camera, which for me really makes the X80
03:03Pro stand out, as right now I think we can pretty much all agree the iPhone is still
03:07best in class for video stabilisation, this may be able to give it a proper run for its
03:13money.
03:14The X80 Pro already uses OIS and EIS, but this is the first time, according to Vivo,
03:19that they've added a specific portrait lens that has its own built-in gimbal to improve
03:24handheld video recording, and also enabling night portrait and also sports portrait modes.
03:30So any kind of fast movement, panning, following quick moving subjects, like if your kids are
03:35playing football or something, or your dog's running around, it should all be a lot smoother
03:39with this setup.
03:41They've also incorporated some features that you'd see in something like this, the
03:45GoPro Hero 10.
03:47We get what's called 360 horizon levelling stabilisation, so no matter how your phone
03:52rotates as you're holding it, the horizon in the video doesn't move and it sticks
03:56to that horizontal line, and so hopefully your video looks a bit more, well, professional.
04:02Night photos and videos should also be significantly improved on the X80 Pro, with that sharper
04:07anti-glare lens coating, the V1 chip for low-light video, and also with their XDR photo
04:12tech, which essentially gives us much better HDR in low-light photos.
04:18There are so many options to play with, and also we've got filters, the cinematic mode,
04:23which gives you a wider aspect ratio, which is, well, more cinematic.
04:27It's all fun to play with, but to tell you the truth, I do find the camera app just a
04:31little bit confusing.
04:32There are so many options and modes, and it's not all immediately obvious what different
04:36things do.
04:38To be honest with you, it's all a bit overwhelming.
04:41I feel like I've barely scratched the surface with this camera, and it's also hard to know
04:46among all this marketing guff and all these buzzwords, just how much of an impact these
04:50technologies actually have, and whether they're gimmicky or actually something you'd use every
04:55day.
04:56So, again, like the battery life, I'm going to have to spend some time with this to really
04:59get to grips with this camera, and see if it can take on the likes of the S22 Ultra,
05:04the Oppo Find X5 Pro, indeed the iPhone 13 Pro Max, because on paper at least, this has
05:09one of the most interesting and unique camera setups I've seen for quite some time, and
05:14I'm really excited to actually have a proper play with it.
05:18But of course, it's not all about the camera.
05:20Vivo's actually added a ton of gaming and performance features to the X80 Pro.
05:25If I jump into a bit of Apex Legends that you can now get on the Play Store, as you
05:28would expect, it runs flawlessly, and you can pull out the game's side menu if you want
05:33to tinker with any of the settings.
05:35Also behind the scenes, we get new enhanced LPDDR5 RAM, and also enhanced UFS 3.1 storage,
05:42which according to Vivo are all slightly boosted or overclocked from their standard speeds,
05:47and together with their Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and a proper liquid cooling vapour chamber,
05:52which helps to keep everything nice and cool, and keep the dreaded throttling to a minimum,
05:56altogether this could be one of the fastest and most powerful Android phones you can buy.
06:02Look at this as well, it's not usually the most exciting thing to talk about, but you
06:06can see we've got this new 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader, which is the next generation ultrasonic
06:12I think built by Qualcomm, because they actually teased this a couple of years ago, but as
06:17far as I know this is the first phone that actually comes with it, so not only is it
06:21a lot faster, they say 0.2 milliseconds, it's also much bigger, so you're less likely to
06:26miss it, and it actually supports dual finger authentication, although I can't say I know
06:31any apps that actually require that yet, oh and finally I should say that you can
06:35actually get this in any colour you want, as long as it's black, well cosmic black apparently,
06:41this is the only style colour that you can get, although I do quite like this matte versus
06:46glossy contrast in the design, it's comfortable and I think it stands out, although as I say
06:51I would love if this also acted as a bit of a viewfinder so your subjects could see what
06:55they looked like as you were taking a portrait.
06:58So as I say, first impressions of this are a little bit overwhelming, there is so much
07:01going on and it is an incredibly feature packed phone, and I think it will go toe to toe and
07:07possibly even knock the S22 Ultra off its perch as the king of Android phones, we'll
07:13have to see.
07:14So make sure you do stay tuned and subscribe for my full review and comparisons coming
07:17very soon, and also if there's anything you'd like me to test or try with this, let me know
07:22in the comments below.
