00:42All right, so here we go, let's start with the unboxings.
00:44Now, the 42 mm version starts at $399 and the 46 mm version comes in at $429
00:52and then you can pay an additional $100 if you want the GPS and cellular version.
00:57But as always, I will leave the purchase links down in the description.
01:00So which one shall we unbox first?
01:02Let's go with the smaller size, the 42 mm version,
01:04as I think that's going to be my preferred size,
01:07but of course I will share my advice and thoughts on which size is best as we go.
01:11So here we go, very similar to last year.
01:13We have these two pull tabs on the back and then we can flip the box open.
01:17OK, so a little bit different packaging here.
01:20It's a little bit less colourful as it was last year.
01:22Here we sort of have a silverish colour showing different bands
01:26and the combinations that you have with the watch.
01:28Now, I'll also talk you through the band choice that I made,
01:31but underneath we have two boxes.
01:32So we have the Apple Watch box and then the band box as well,
01:35which is very familiar if you've had an Apple Watch before.
01:38So let's move this off to the side and start here with the most important box,
01:41and that is the box that has the Apple Watch itself.
01:44I'm really curious to check out the Series 10 as, well,
01:47Apple promised that we have a complete redesign of the Apple Watch.
01:50I'm really curious to see what that looks like in person
01:53as the Apple Watch has looked the same or at least very similar for many years now.
01:57And lift the box, here we go.
02:00Designed by Apple in California, as always,
02:02and then here we have the Apple Watch Series 10.
02:05So like I was saying,
02:06Apple say that they have done a complete redesign for the Apple Watch,
02:09which is the first time they've done this in a very long time.
02:12The Apple Watch has looked very similar.
02:15And looking at it now, I think they forgot to ship me my redesign.
02:18This here looks very similar.
02:20Now, I'm joking, of course,
02:21but this actually does look very similar on the outside
02:24or at least from a first impressions perspective.
02:26However, if we do look closer,
02:28this version here does come with many differences.
02:31So to start, the Apple Watch Series 10 now has a bigger display
02:33and also a thinner design.
02:35So you actually get 30% more screen space compared to the Series 9.
02:38So the size differences are going to be from 41mm,
02:41which is the smaller version of the Series 9 that I'm wearing right now,
02:44compared to the now 42mm version of the Series 10.
02:48And we can get a brief look here and see how they compare.
02:51Now, the aspect ratio is going to also be a little bit different.
02:53So the Series 10 is a little bit wider, as I can see,
02:56and it's also a little bit more rounded on the edges.
02:59The Series 10 is also going to be the thinnest Apple Watch ever.
03:02So it's going to be 10% thinner compared to the Series 9.
03:05So the current depth here is going to be 9.7mm,
03:09which is 10% thinner than the Series 9.
03:11And this is something that looking at it in person here,
03:13I do seem to notice.
03:15I find that particularly these sensors here on the back
03:17do seem to be a little bit more narrow than what they were previously.
03:20Let me just give you a quick look here with the Series 9 off.
03:23So here are the two next to each other.
03:25And you can see that the Series 10 here on the left is definitely a bit wider.
03:28And that's going to give you a wider aspect ratio,
03:31which is great for reading things like text or seeing notifications on your watch.
03:34And then the corners are a little bit more rounded as well.
03:37And then here in terms of the thickness, if I look at them side by side,
03:40yeah, I would say the biggest difference in the thickness lies here
03:43with the sensors underneath, where I can see that this additional bump
03:46that you can see here, it doesn't protrude as far on the Series 10
03:50as it does on the Series 9.
03:52And hopefully this will translate to a more comfortable wearing experience.
03:56But other than that, the side button and the digital crown,
03:59of course, the microphone looks very similar.
04:01And then here on the left-hand side,
04:03the speaker units are definitely quite different,
04:05where on the Series 10, we now have a more finer grill,
04:08as opposed to two finer grills,
04:10as opposed to one larger cutout on the Series 9.
04:13And what is also cool is on the Series 10,
04:15you can now finally play music or a podcast directly from the watch speaker.
04:19But okay, let's take a look and see what else we have in the box here.
04:22So here we go, designed by Apple in California.
04:24And this is going to have our charging puck.
04:27And I just want to make sure that whether there's any difference or not with this,
04:30I don't think there will be, at least from a physical perspective.
04:33However, the Apple Watch Series 10 does now charge faster.
04:37And we can see that the charge puck itself here is the same as before.
04:40So we got a nice braided cable, which is good.
04:42And then the metal version here of the puck on the back,
04:45which looks a little bit nicer than the plastic one
04:48that you get with the Apple Watch SE.
04:50But like before, this is going to magnetically attach and charge your Apple Watch.
04:54Now, this Apple Watch does charge faster.
04:57So it's actually going to charge up to 80% battery in only 30 minutes.
05:01And this, I think, is great if you do use your watch for things like sleep tracking
05:04and you wake up with like a depleted battery
05:06and you want to quickly charge it while, say, you're showering and shaving in the morning,
05:09getting ready for the day.
05:11Those 30 minutes will be enough to give you 80% battery,
05:14which should be enough to get you through the day.
05:16And then sitting underneath, we have the paperwork,
05:18which looks very bland and boring.
05:20In fact, it's just going to be one sheet here of the warranty information.
05:23No stickers. Oh, I don't think we ever had stickers with the Apple Watch,
05:26but not even like a manual.
05:28So very simple unboxing experience.
05:30But now let's take a look at the second part of the box,
05:32and that here is going to be the band.
05:34So I want to talk you through my choice of band here and why I chose it.
05:37So I chose to go with the sports band in black.
05:39Now, I think if you are new to the Apple Watch,
05:42this, I think, is the perfect starter band,
05:44just because of its versatility, the comfort,
05:47and also the general ease of wear here.
05:49So this is the band right here.
05:51So let's go ahead and take it out and check it out.
05:54So this is, I think, the original Apple Watch band.
05:56They've had this for a long, long time.
05:58And of course, I have the black model here
06:00to perfectly pair the new jet black color of the Series 10.
06:05Now, the Series 9 came in midnight,
06:07and you can see that is a slightly less dark tone.
06:09So we've got some blue undertones here on the midnight color,
06:11where the black version on the Series 10 is proper black.
06:14So let's go ahead and put this on the watch here.
06:17And like always, simply slide it into place here.
06:19Now, one thing I do notice looking at the sides of the Series 10
06:22is that the watch band attachment mechanism
06:24sits lower than it does on the previous versions
06:26of the Apple Watch, and this should result in...
06:28You can see the band is going to be angled
06:30more downwards than it was before.
06:32So this small change here does make the watch...
06:34Actually, immediately, I can feel it
06:36sitting more flush on my wrist here.
06:38Let me give you a quick look.
06:40There we go. Looking good. So I like it.
06:42Right away, yeah, I can feel that the band
06:44almost sits more flush with the watch
06:46because it goes more flush with my wrist
06:48because it curves down more sharply
06:50than it otherwise would.
06:52And I think it looks really good.
06:54So here's the 42mm Series 10 on my left arm,
06:56and then on my right here, I have the 41mm version
06:58of the Series 9.
07:00And just a little bit more about this sports band.
07:02Another reason why I really like it
07:04is because it's a super comfortable band to wear,
07:06and it's also very easy to clean.
07:08So if, say, you are working out with your watch,
07:10you can just take it off, detach it from the watch,
07:12put it in some dish soap and warm water,
07:14leave it for a couple of minutes,
07:16and your watch will be like new.
07:18And I think this black color, of course,
07:20being made of rubber, does still look
07:22very understated and quite classy.
07:24I think it will suit in with many different occasions,
07:26even more formal occasions.
07:28And the last thing I really like
07:30is the fact that it's going to be really durable.
07:32I've used these for years, these sports bands,
07:34on older versions of the Apple Watch,
07:36and they've held up really well.
07:38So I do think they're going to hold up better
07:40than the braided and textile versions.
07:42And one more useful tip, I suggest getting
07:44the sports band over the Solo Loop version
07:46as the Solo Loop version, while it is made
07:48of rubber, does, of course, come in one size.
07:50So you really have to get the right size with that band.
07:52Where the sports band, you can see,
07:54we have many different adjustments
07:56and allows you to quickly resize the band on the fly.
07:58I also find that if, say, during a workout,
08:00you're getting hotter, you know, you're more sweaty,
08:02your wrist will expand a little bit in size
08:04and it's nice to be able to wear the watch a bit looser,
08:06where normally, or say, when it's cold outside,
08:08your wrist will shrink a bit,
08:10and being able to adjust the band on the fly
08:12is super useful.
08:14So this is why, ultimately, especially if you're new
08:16to watches, I really recommend starting out here
08:18with the sports band, and you can always
08:20add to your collection from there.
08:22But okay, before we talk more about the features
08:24and particularly that jet black color,
08:26as I do have some thoughts right away,
08:28let's quickly unbox the 46mm version
08:30of the Series 10 as well.
08:32So I think the unboxing experience, as you can see,
08:34is going to be very similar,
08:36but still impressive nonetheless.
08:38I think Apple always does their unboxing experiences
08:40really quite well.
08:42And there we go, voila,
08:44here it is.
08:46Alright, so this definitely feels bigger.
08:48Wow, so this is the 46mm version,
08:50so also 1mm larger
08:52compared to the Series 9.
08:54However, this does translate into
08:56what seems like much more than 1mm,
08:58just because of that wider aspect ratio.
09:00And I will say that the thinner design
09:02is more apparent here on the
09:04larger version of the Series 10,
09:06primarily because, of course, the watch is larger.
09:08But this definitely feels thinner
09:10and looks thinner when I'm looking at this design.
09:12And let's take out the band as well here.
09:14There we go.
09:16And voila, so as you can see,
09:18I have the exact same setup for both Apple watches here.
09:20That's because I want to do an apples-to-apples comparison,
09:22no pun intended.
09:24Alright, so here I have both sizes
09:26unboxed and set up with their bands here.
09:28So here we have the 42mm version
09:30on the left-hand side,
09:32and then the 46mm version here
09:34over on the right.
09:36Now, I do have a more in-depth comparison video
09:38coming very soon, in which I will compare
09:40both watches in more detail and also see
09:42how watchwest compares on each watch,
09:44as that here is going to be an area
09:46where these two are very different.
09:48However, for this video, I do want to put
09:50both of them on my wrist and give you an idea
09:52of how the two compare and tell you
09:54why I'm leaning towards one size and not the other,
09:56which I think may be best for you.
09:58Alright, so here I've got both sizes on my wrist.
10:00So on my left hand here, I have the 42mm version,
10:02and then here on my right, I have the larger 46mm version.
10:04And this should give you an idea
10:06of how each size looks on my wrist.
10:08Now, for context, I have 155mm wrist
10:10in terms of the circumference,
10:12and as you can see, while both do work,
10:14I ultimately do lean
10:16to the smaller 42mm version
10:18of the Apple Watch.
10:20Now, if you've watched my channel for a while,
10:22you know that this has typically been the case
10:24even on my Series 9.
10:26I do have the smaller 41mm version
10:28as opposed to the larger 45mm version.
10:30And here, I think this remains true
10:32for the Series 10.
10:34I just believe that the smaller version,
10:36the 42mm version, is more proportionate
10:38and looks best on my wrist.
10:40And I do think that if your wrist
10:42is a similar size to mine,
10:44which I would say is small to medium size wrist
10:46or just below average for men's,
10:48I think the 42mm version just looks more proportionate,
10:50where the 46mm version,
10:52again, it is possible to wear,
10:54it's not like stretching beyond my wrist or anything,
10:56but it looks a little bit more like I'm wearing
10:58a gadget on my wrist,
11:00where the 42mm version looks more like a watch.
11:02But of course, there are pros and cons to both sizes.
11:04Like I said, with watchOS in particular,
11:06the larger size does have some advantages
11:08in terms of being able to see more content
11:10on screen at a time,
11:12but that is something I'll explore more
11:14in my upcoming video, so be sure to subscribe
11:16to not miss that video.
11:18But this here gives you a look at how the two compare.
11:20Of course, the watch bands themselves
11:22are identical in size.
11:24As you can see, I do have them on different sizes
11:26because the larger watch here on the Series 10.
11:28There we go. So here's how they look from above.
11:30And back here from the top view.
11:32Now, I also want to talk about the colour,
11:34as this is the first time we're seeing
11:36this jet black colour here on the Apple Watch,
11:38and it's going to be very different compared
11:40to previous versions, because this is still
11:42the aluminium version of the Apple Watch,
11:44not the stainless steel version, which I actually
11:46don't make anymore, so you now have the titanium version
11:48if you want a more premium look.
11:50But I've always thought that the aluminium version
11:52was by far the best value, so that's the one
11:54that I usually got. But compared to the previous
11:56Series 9, you'll see that we have a glossy texture
11:58as opposed to the matte texture here.
12:00So, again, both are aluminium, but the Series 9,
12:02this is the midnight colour here,
12:04has that brushed finish, and then we have this
12:06very glossy finish on the Series 10.
12:08And I quite like it, I've got to say.
12:10It definitely does stand out a little bit more.
12:12It really does look like stainless steel,
12:14even if it is aluminium. And I think that adds
12:16a nice little premium touch to the watch.
12:18I like the contrast between the
12:20matte finish on the band,
12:22and then we have this nice polished finish on the watch.
12:24I think it looks really quite clean.
12:26And you can see this glossy finish here
12:28carries all the way over through to the back.
12:30It's like one solid piece. As you can see,
12:32previously, we had sort of a glass insert.
12:34This is now also made out of aluminium.
12:36And I quite like it. Now, you do also have
12:38other colour options for the Series 10.
12:40So, there is going to be a brushed version
12:42of the rose, as well as the gold colours,
12:44which are quite nice. And we also have aluminium
12:46as well as silver, which are also going to be brushed.
12:48So, black is the only one that has this polished finish.
12:50And I really think that this is the best colour.
12:52And why do I say this? Well, I think the black
12:54colour is going to be most versatile.
12:56It's going to suit with most outfits and occasions.
12:58The dark colour does look more formal.
13:00So, I think you can even wear it with a suit.
13:02Even on the sports band,
13:04because it is black, or say you're wearing
13:06a semi-casual,
13:08smart-casual outfit, I think the dark colour
13:10is going to look at home in any kind of setting.
13:12And what's also neat is because the watch
13:14is going to be very dark, you can also pair it
13:16with any colour band. This is something that's
13:18much more difficult to do if you, say, get the gold colour,
13:20or particularly the rose gold colour,
13:22where your options for pairing different bands
13:24are going to be much more limited.
13:26So, I think if you are unsure about which colour to get,
13:28I think you really can't go wrong,
13:30particularly this year, with that jet black colour.
13:32It just looks so clean, so minimalistic,
13:34and also timeless. I think it's a colour
13:36you're never going to get bored of,
13:38and it's one that will definitely suit any occasion.
13:40Do I prefer it over the midnight?
13:42I've got to say, I really like the midnight colour,
13:44just because it has that hint of blue,
13:46so it does sort of stand out a little bit.
13:48But at the same time, I do prefer the glossy finish
13:50on the Series 10. So, all in all, I would say
13:52I would take the Series 10 over the Series 9,
13:54just because of that glossy finish.
13:56I think that really looks nice. You can see,
13:58it adds just that touch of shine here,
14:00when I angle it into the light,
14:02and I think that really does sort of complete the look.
14:04Plus, the slightly larger display on the Series 10,
14:06I think, will be a noteworthy upgrade.
14:08You can see, without making the physical watch
14:10that much larger, and that's in part because
14:12the display actually stretches out further to the edges,
14:14so you have thinner bezels, and that allows
14:16for a larger display in a relatively small watch case.
14:18And then, in terms of battery life,
14:20Apple quote the same 18 hours of battery life,
14:22which is going to be an all-day setup here,
14:24and it's going to be the same as on the previous Apple Watches.
14:26And in my experience, I've had my Series 9
14:28definitely last me all day, with battery still to spare.
14:30But if you are unsure about how to set up
14:32your Apple Watch or which settings to use,
14:34I do have a very complete and thorough guide on this,
14:36which I'll leave linked at the end of the video,
14:38to show you how to set up your Apple Watch
14:40to get the most out of its features,
14:42as well as its battery life.
14:44Right, let's talk about the new features
14:46that come with the Series 10 over the Apple Watch Series 9.
14:48So, as we already talked about,
14:50that's going to be that larger display,
14:52as well as the thinner design, but there is also more.
14:54So, we also now get a wide-angle OLED display,
14:56and this is supposed to give you
14:5840% higher brightness when looking at the display
15:00from an angle.
15:02Now, you can imagine that for a watch
15:04that is particularly useful,
15:06say you want to casually watch, or more subtly rather,
15:08check the watch from your wrist,
15:10you don't have to look at it head-on.
15:12And this, I think, will be a useful feature.
15:14Of course, I'm going to compare it.
15:16So, having a brighter screen, especially off-axis,
15:18is always a plus.
15:20Now, the Apple Watch Series 10 is going to be more power efficient,
15:22and this allows for the always-on mode
15:24on the display to refresh more quickly.
15:26So, to give you an example here,
15:28you'll see this here on the Series 9.
15:30You'll see that when the display is in the always-on mode,
15:32which is what it currently is.
15:34In fact, let me put it on my wrist real quick.
15:36There we go. So, as you can see here on my Series 9,
15:38you don't see the second tick here on the screen
15:40as I'm currently in the always-on mode.
15:42This only shows when I twist my wrist
15:44Now, on the Series 10, this second hand
15:46should be visible on the display,
15:48even when you are on the always-on display mode,
15:50which I think will add a nice touch
15:52and make the watch look a little bit more mechanical
15:54and more like a watch.
15:56So, this is something I think is quite impressive
15:58of Apple to have achieved,
16:00despite having the same 18 hours of battery life.
16:02And what is also cool is that you can now
16:04finally play your media on the built-in speakers
16:06of the Apple Watch, so things like your music
16:08or your podcast.
16:10I don't know how much I'm going to be using this.
16:12But it is nice to finally have the ability to do so.
16:14I never fully understood why that wasn't there before.
16:16Now, in terms of health features,
16:18the Series 10 does add a new ability
16:20and that is the ability to track
16:22and also detect sleep apnea.
16:24So, this is going to be for people
16:26who have difficulty breathing while sleeping.
16:28So, it is really cool to see Apple add to the list
16:30of health features on the Series 10
16:32and the Apple Watch, I think it's already saved
16:34many, many lives over the years.
16:36And this feature here is going to enable people
16:38to detect health conditions earlier
16:40which I think is an absolute win.
16:42So, the more of this, I think the better.
16:44We also have a new depth app and this is going to be
16:46geared towards diving and swimming.
16:48It won't be as comprehensive as on the Apple Watch Ultra 2
16:50which we're also going to be looking at in a bit
16:52in a separate video.
16:54But it does allow you to track your depth
16:56when you are diving, especially on the Series 10.
16:58This will be really nice to have.
17:00And then finally, we have the new S10 chip inside.
17:02That's what's going to be powering this Apple Watch.
17:04So, it should give you performance for many years
17:06and again, more efficiency to allow for more features
17:08with the same battery life.
17:10So, all in all, I'm really excited to start wearing
17:12and testing the Apple Watch Series 10.
17:14Again, I am going to be going for the 42mm version.
17:16I think both definitely have their place
17:18and again, I do have a more in-depth comparison
17:20coming soon, but I think the 42mm version here
17:22looks right at home on my wrist.
17:24And I do think that based on the new features
17:26we see here, it does look like it's a pretty
17:28major upgrade over the Series 9
17:30and this also means that the gap between the Series 10
17:32and the SE2 is now even bigger.
17:34But I've got a lot of Apple Watch content
17:36coming up, so be sure to subscribe
17:38to not miss that and let me know
17:40if you have any questions at all and as always,
17:42I will leave all the purchase links down in the description.
17:44Thanks for watching and take care.
