00:00You and Sophia, are we, uh, kind of partners now?
00:05Temporarily.
00:11The world ain't set up for the honest man to succeed.
00:15America's a hustle.
00:18I've seen stuff.
00:20Stuff that I shouldn't have.
00:23You still think there's good and bad?
00:27There's just this.
00:31Give it your best.
00:34Survival.
00:35Action.
00:37Um, so we've watched the last two episodes of The Penguin.
00:41Uh, we'll start off with just looking at episode three.
00:44Overall, I thought it was a pretty good episode.
00:47Uh, it's interesting how it starts off and you get to see, like, a glimpse of, like, pre-flood Gotham.
00:52You get the wee insight into, you know, his life.
00:56Just before everything happens.
00:57I think it's good because it shows the devastation that the brother actually had.
01:01Because there's no real characters they based that off in the Batman film.
01:04It's just kind of like, oh, this big event happened, the villain succeeded in a way.
01:08But they actually, like, humanise the people of Gotham of what has happened to them.
01:12It's very real, it's very ground level.
01:14It's like, you know, in Batman, obviously he's helping the victims in the movie, but you don't know anyone.
01:20It's nice that they personalise it a bit so you actually know, like, how big of an event this was.
01:25It makes the brother a bit scary as well.
01:27But, um, I think this episode was mostly focused, as you'll probably agree with me, on Victor.
01:32Or, what was his name again?
01:34Vic.
01:35Vic, yeah.
01:36Overall, I think he's such a good character.
01:38I think he learns so well in the show.
01:40Like, he's such a clear outlier of all the characters.
01:43But he fits in his own weird way, because he's so different from the rest of them.
01:47It's the Tony Soprano, Christopher Molisanti.
01:51It's just, there's so many parallels, you know what I mean?
01:54But, to be fair, he seems like he's not a nuthead.
01:59Well, we would.
02:01But he's not, like, overly committed.
02:03He doesn't really seem to want it.
02:05Even how the episode ends, he's really hesitant to, you know, back Penguin.
02:10Yeah.
02:12Spoilers for the show, but we're just going to be spoiling it anyway.
02:15But he fully, like, dies under the criminality of the Penguin.
02:18Which, I was glad to see, because I wasn't enjoying the whole,
02:23will I do it, will I not?
02:25You know, I'm glad now that he's come out of the character now,
02:27and he's going to be part of the show.
02:30But one thing I would say, it was just constantly on the move.
02:33There was always something happening, whether it was the Penguin and Sophia
02:36bargaining their deal, or Victor, or, I can't remember, Vic,
02:41fighting with himself, deciding if he was going to be part of the Penguin's crew or not.
02:48It's just, I thought it was just a really well-paced episode,
02:51and it was enjoyable all the way through.
02:53I definitely, in the ending too, it's like a cliffhanger.
02:56Leaves you on the edge.
02:58I think it's just really interesting how Penguin,
03:00he will screw over literally everyone.
03:02Yeah.
03:03And he's gone out of his way.
03:04They screw over Sophia Falcon again.
03:07And it's not like, you know, they had some thought on it.
03:10It was literally the drop of a hat.
03:12Straight away.
03:13He's such a snake, and it works.
03:18I thought it was strange how they spent the whole episode
03:20kind of developing their relationship.
03:22Then they just throw it out the window towards the end.
03:24Because you kind of thought maybe he can change,
03:26because it's revealed that he used to be Sophia's driver.
03:30And, you know, they have this previous relationship.
03:33But then he just throws it all away again.
03:36Yeah.
03:37Maybe it's the can't show that he is just this massive slimeball
03:40and just cannot be trusted by anybody.
03:43Or maybe they're going to go in the direction where Vic
03:46is kind of like his kryptonite,
03:48where the only person he actually cares about is Vic.
03:50So Vic is the only one who can actually get them.
03:54What did it feel like?
03:58To get to watch a person unravel.
04:06Victims are so quickly forgotten.
04:10Aren't they?
04:12You okay, Sophia?
04:13People are going to start to get ideas.
04:16Sweet Sophia, what's happened to you?
04:20You're clearly not yourself.
04:26Confused.
04:28Sick.
04:33I need...
04:34I need help.
04:37Looking at that episode four,
04:40initially I thought this episode was going to be kind of purr.
04:43Like, once it started off, once I knew
04:45it was going to be kind of like a flashback episode,
04:47I was thinking, oh no,
04:48is this going to be the fuller of the season?
04:50But as it went on, I actually really enjoyed the episode.
04:55Every time there's like a mental institution
04:57and a film or a TV show, it's always the worst place ever.
05:00It's never like somewhere where people go and get treated.
05:03Except for in house.
05:04House was a nice place.
05:06Oh, I haven't seen that one.
05:07No, I haven't either.
05:08But I thought it was going to be about purr,
05:10but it actually really picked up.
05:12And I actually found it to be kind of like a scary episode.
05:14Like, it had almost a horror element to it.
05:17Yeah, you get to see her mind unravel,
05:20like just over the course of the episode.
05:23It was a crazy twist to me that she was actually just sane.
05:28I was convinced the whole time,
05:29like, oh no, she was just crazy.
05:31She is doing the crazy eyes.
05:32Yeah, the crazy eyes.
05:33That's because she learned she was just completely broken
05:36by the system and locked up for 10 years.
05:38So, probably do a dealer.
05:40Yeah, it's the big reveal in that episode was that,
05:42you know, she was in Arkham Asylum for 10 years.
05:44And the short glimpse we see of that 10 years
05:47is that it's a really horrible way of life.
05:50She's getting electrocuted most days of the week.
05:52And she has to kill people just to survive in the asylum.
05:56But I thought the episode brought a lot of the plot strings together.
05:59As you said, her being away for 10 years,
06:01but also the Falcone family.
06:03Like, it tells more in depth
06:05of how they'll easily turn on each other.
06:07They're not faithful to each other,
06:08like a family mob usually are depicted in these things.
06:13So, it shows that, you know,
06:15the Falcones aren't really loyal.
06:17They're not as trustworthy as you think they should be.
06:19And then that leads to Sophia coming back
06:22and, you know, killing her whole family
06:24so she can take over the Falcone family.
06:26That was a really strong ending to the episode.
06:28I just thought it was just amazing how she'd done it.
06:31Yeah.
06:32Especially leaving...
06:34The youngest.
06:35Your man alive, eh?
06:36I thought, it's going to be amazing.
06:38It's just going to lead on to something bigger now.
06:41Yeah.
06:42But it also brings in her and the Penguins' history.
06:46So now you know even more about how much history they have together.
06:52Like you were saying,
06:53at the start of the episode, it got fuller.
06:55But the insight this actually gives them,
06:57they like this character.
06:58Because normally, like an episode where all we focus on
07:01kind of like a side character of the show,
07:04you kind of think, you know, whatever.
07:06But the fact that it's going to tie in so much now
07:09with the rest of the show,
07:10it's going to have such like a ripple effect
07:12across the whole season now.
07:13I think it shows the strength of the show
07:15that it can go pretty much the whole episode
07:18with very, very little Penguin scenes.
07:20If I were Colin Farrell, it would still be a strong episode.
07:23It just shows the strength of the writing and the other actors.
07:26They mentioned the special effects again, though.
07:28It's the same way he looks down.
07:30You can see the double chin.
07:31It's just amazing.
07:33You don't doubt it for a second
07:35that this is just some fat grease ball.
07:37But underneath it all, it's just Colin Farrell
07:39putting on the performance of his life
07:41under like some kilos, kilos.
07:45Gotham, New Jersey.
07:46It's never going to get old.
07:52In general, I'm enjoying the show a lot.
07:55But just looking at it, I'm thinking,
07:59I don't understand why this is a DC-related show.
08:03I don't see what strength it's pulling from.
08:06When I go to the Arkham,
08:07I'm waiting for the Scarecrow time.
08:09And you're just waiting for a name drop.
08:13And you're really not getting much.
08:16Sophia's friend, Kote Simarks,
08:20in the asylum, is that Harley Quinn?
08:23You're almost thinking,
08:24because she kind of talks the similar way.
08:26Exaggerated.
08:27She's annoying.
08:28She has big blonde hair.
08:29But no, she just kills her.
08:32Are we ever going to see any of these
08:34other DC characters fleshed out?
08:36It's just the Penguin.
08:37But I don't get why it is the Penguin.
08:39It could easily be original characters
08:41and still be the same show and be as good.
08:44I think with the flood happening
08:46off the back of the Batman,
08:48that kind of makes a really good setting
08:50that you would maybe have to set up by yourself
08:53for a show to take place in.
08:55So I can see why they would do that.
08:58And the Batman as Penguin was really good.
09:01Really memorable performance.
09:02So maybe they're kind of going off that.
09:04But I don't know.
09:05They need to.
09:06It feels like an excuse for the writer and director
09:09to be like,
09:10we want to do a mob flick.
09:12Let's just use the Penguin license.
09:14Like our mob home.
09:16But I wanted to ask you
09:17if you had any season productions?
09:21Honestly, I know we keep coming back to DC times
09:26when Sofia brings the youngest into the greenhouse
09:31and they sleep in the greenhouse.
09:33Kind of thing in Poison Ivy.
09:35They're going to see some freaky stuff out there.
09:38I think the Penguin is going to completely fall apart
09:41because he's now been hunted by these assassins again.
09:48This drug thing, it worked.
09:50But how is he going to run that
09:51while he's being chased by assassins?
09:53I don't know.
09:57It's going to have a really strong end to it.
09:59But I think we're going to get a full episode really soon.
10:02There's only four episodes left.
10:05I think the show's going to lean now
10:08in the Penguin having to face off against Sofia
10:12and also the Maroons?
10:15Maron.
10:16Maron, the other gang.
10:18He's going to be caught in the muddle,
10:20still trying to play both sides.
10:21But I don't think it's going to work anymore.
10:23I think both of them are against him now.
10:24I think he's on an island.
10:25I'm on Vic against the world.
10:27I do think Vic's going to want to bite the ball.
10:31But I think Sofia might stay.
10:32I think she might love it out.
10:34They've built her up to be such an important character now.
10:37I can't see them just...
10:38It would be interesting if she becomes
10:39an established character within this universe.
10:41It would be different.
10:42I don't think they've...
10:43Not from my knowledge anyway.
10:44I don't know if Sofia Falcone is a big thing in DC or not.
10:49I don't know.
10:50I wouldn't even know about The Hangman.
10:51Is that even a thing?
10:52Or is that completely made up?
10:53I think it has to be made up for the show.
10:56I don't think that Batman's going to come on.
10:58No, definitely not.
10:59No.
11:00Unless they're pulling mine
11:02during the whole Spider-Man thing.
11:05Andrew Garfield and Tommy Webber saying,
11:07no, we're not on it.
11:08And then bang, they're in the movie.
11:10So maybe we see a glimpse of Pattinson.
11:13If anything, I think it would take away from the show
11:16if they had Batman in it.
11:17Just throw him in there.
11:19Cameo look.
11:20Maybe if they have Bruce.
11:23Do something.
11:24You said that with so much contempt.
11:26Bruce.
11:27Because he's such a moody.
11:29He's not even Bruce Wayne.
11:31It'd work better if it was Bruce Wayne
11:34from any other universe.
11:38But because this guy's just an emo
11:40that Bruce Wayne fights crime.
11:41I like emo Batman.
11:42I know, I like it too.
11:43But it wouldn't make sense for him to be living the high life
11:46and have to deal with mobsters being about as well.
11:50I don't know.
11:51I feel like they kind of must have beat that.
11:53I think it would have been interesting.
11:55But overall, I think the show's pretty good.
11:57I look forward to watching episodes every week.
11:59I do.
12:00Look forward to it.
12:03The way I see it,
12:06Sofia done us a favor.
12:14Sofia's gonna come for us.
12:17I want what's mine.
12:18It's you and me now, kid.
12:21So let's get back what belongs to us.
12:25One family down.
12:27One to go.
12:40Anytime we gotta sell some goddamn respect.
