00:00Hey, how's it going guys? This is Dave2D, and this is the Lenovo Yoga Book.
00:12It starts at $500 for the Android version, and if you want to pay an extra $50, you can get a Windows version.
00:18Same hardware, just the Windows version is running Windows.
00:21Now, I've used both of them pretty extensively.
00:23If you're going to get one of these, I would highly recommend the Android version.
00:26Now, the build quality is top-notch.
00:28It feels very similar to something that would normally run you $800 or even up to $1,000.
00:32It has that watch band hinge, good materials, not much chassis flex.
00:36It's very well-built.
00:37The ports are limited, but it's expected given the size of the device.
00:41You get micro-USB, micro-HDMI, and micro-SD.
00:45So, the internal storage is 64 gigs.
00:47You'll need to rely on SD cards if you need to store a lot of stuff locally.
00:51There's also a pair of speakers located on the side.
00:54So, I had a pre-production review unit before.
00:56That one had really mediocre speakers, but this retail version is much improved, surprisingly clear and loud.
01:02It makes the Yoga Book an excellent media consumption device.
01:06The 10.1-inch screen runs at 1920x1200.
01:09It has a good color gamut, and it gets bright.
01:12It's not perfectly calibrated out of the box, but it's a really solid screen.
01:15The Yoga Book also comes with a stylus, but it doesn't work on the screen.
01:19You can't draw on it directly.
01:20So, the stylus is a 2-in-1 pen-slash-stylus.
01:24You can change the nib to either be a plastic-tipped stylus, or it can be a fully functional pen.
01:29It comes with three pen refills, and you can easily get more.
01:31Now, it doesn't work on the screen, but it interacts with the Create Pad, which is this whole area down here.
01:37So, the Create Pad is the main feature of this product.
01:40It's the feature that drew everyone's attention when it was announced.
01:43It's a glass surface that can function as a full keyboard or as a Wacom tablet for creative work.
01:49And they've designed it to keep the profile of the product super thin.
01:53So, you can use it like a regular art tablet for illustrations and artwork.
01:58It's a good tablet, and it feels very similar to a mid-tier Wacom tablet, just a little bit smaller,
02:03but there is a little bit of input lag.
02:05And you can also write on it, or put paper, like the included Notepad, on top,
02:10and then use the pen to write on that paper.
02:12And it'll keep track of all of your strokes, so that it has a digital record of anything that you write down.
02:17You do need to use the pen that they've included, you can't just use any regular pen.
02:20But, even though it's a really cool feature, it's not something that I personally found myself ever using over the past two weeks.
02:26It's something that, I mean, it's cool to look at, it's fun to play with,
02:30but unless you're someone who writes regularly, you probably won't use this very often.
02:34The keyboard function is the important thing for me,
02:36and I think this is the feature that has to be awesome if it's going to be universally appealing.
02:40But, I don't love it.
02:42Okay, when you type on a regular keyboard, physical feedback is really important.
02:46Your fingertips can kind of feel the different keys to help you figure out your location,
02:50even without looking at it.
02:51But, on this keyboard, there's no sense of location.
02:54There is haptic vibration when you type,
02:56and you can see the glowing keys with your peripheral vision,
02:59but that's it, it's like typing on an iPad.
03:02The keyboard learns your typing habits over time,
03:04but I've been using this for over two weeks at this point,
03:06and I still can't touch type effectively on it.
03:09The trackpad also isn't amazing.
03:11The glass surface isn't smooth, there's a lot of friction when you use it,
03:14and it only has a tap function for clicking, so there's no buttons to physically press.
03:18My unit is running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.
03:22It's supposed to be updated to Nougat relatively soon.
03:24I kind of wish it was running Chrome, but that's another conversation.
03:27I prefer the Android version over the Windows version,
03:30just because Android gives a better touch experience than Windows 10 does right now,
03:35and also using this trackpad in Windows isn't ideal.
03:38The two-megapixel webcam looks like this, it's decent quality,
03:41and there's also a rear-facing camera when it's in tablet mode if you want to use it.
03:46Performance is more than sufficient.
03:48It's an Atom processor with four gigs of RAM.
03:51It's fanless, so it doesn't generate much heat,
03:53even if you're stressing it out pretty heavily on benchmarks.
03:56Atom processors aren't designed for any kind of heavy-duty stuff like raw photo editing,
04:00but it'll handle light and moderate tasks without a problem,
04:04so I can play a YouTube video while having four or five Chrome tabs open pretty comfortably.
04:08Battery life is great.
04:10I was consistently getting around nine hours of regular use,
04:12and that's a full day of battery life, so you can leave the charger at home.
04:15Okay, if you're a student who types a lot, or someone who needs a really good keyboard,
04:19you probably can't use the Yoga Book as your primary device,
04:22but if you're someone who just types occasionally,
04:24and you want to have a device that you can use for creative work,
04:27as well as some productivity work, as well as being awesome for media consumption,
04:31this is a really cool device.
04:33I mean, it's not for everyone, but I think that Lenovo did a really good job
04:37on their first execution of this whole kind of genre of product.
04:41I think that future versions of this can be awesome,
04:43especially work out the kinks with the keyboard,
04:45but as for right now, I would reserve this for people that want to purchase it
04:49for media consumption primarily, and then productivity and creative work as a secondary thing.
04:54Hope you guys enjoyed this video.
04:55Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
04:57It's been nice. I'll see you guys next time.
