00:00This is a video on the MSI GS63, the 6RF Stealth Pro.
00:05So, this is their thin and light gaming laptop that's equipped with the GTX 1060,
00:09but before I begin, I have to mention the fact that this video was made possible by NVIDIA.
00:14They partnered with me and sent me the laptop for review.
00:16So, first, a quick unboxing here.
00:18When you open it up, you get the laptop itself, the AC adapter, and some paperwork.
00:23Aesthetically, it's not too different from the GS60 from last year.
00:26It's thinner and lighter, but the top surface is still aluminum.
00:30The bottom panel is also aluminum, but it has this microsuede-type material.
00:34The idea is that it allows you to use the device on your lap without a metal panel getting super hot.
00:40You can access the internals by removing some screws,
00:42but the only thing you can easily swap out is the 2.5-inch hard drive.
00:46The RAM slots and the M.2 drive bay are upgradable,
00:49but they're on the other side of the motherboard.
00:51You'll need to disassemble it a bit more to get access.
00:54The chassis is a magnesium-lithium alloy.
00:57The exterior paneling, though, is aluminum.
00:59There's a bit of flex on these panels, and the same thing goes with the keyboard area,
01:03but for a laptop this thin at 17.7 millimeters, it's pretty solid.
01:07The hinge also feels pretty well-made with proper tension.
01:11The GS63 is packed with ports.
01:13On the left, we have Ethernet, an SD slot, three USB 3s, and separate audio jacks.
01:18On the right, we have a USB 2, Thunderbolt 3, and some display outputs.
01:22The power button is up near the front,
01:24and I was actually worried I would accidentally turn it on or off all the time,
01:27but it's never happened, not even once, so I don't think it's an issue.
01:30The keyboard has SteelSeries lighting.
01:32They aren't individually lit keys.
01:34You adjust the lighting in zones.
01:36It's very configurable.
01:37There's tons of colors to choose from.
01:39The keyboard itself feels really nice.
01:40It has a 10-key number pad, so it has that leftward shift,
01:43but it has good key travel, and it's very nice to type on despite being such a thin chassis.
01:48The touchpad is less awesome.
01:50It's a textured plastic surface.
01:51I don't find the tracking to be as smooth as I'd like it to be,
01:54and the button clicks feel pretty shallow.
01:56It is a gaming laptop though, so you'll probably have a mouse connected.
01:59There's a 4K panel option, but the display on this unit is a 1080p IPS panel.
02:04It's a matte finish with good viewing angles, contrast, and brightness.
02:08Color accuracy out of the box is good,
02:10and it can be tuned with the included software.
02:12There's also no noticeable light bleed on the panel.
02:15They did a really good job this year.
02:17The 1080p webcam up top looks like this.
02:20The speakers are not located above the keyboard, despite the grill being there.
02:23They're actually underneath the laptop.
02:25They sound pretty standard for a laptop this thin.
02:28They get loud, but they have pretty weak bass.
02:30The drive speeds are also pretty standard.
02:32It has a SATA stick in the M.2 slot and a SATA hard drive,
02:36but you can upgrade both of them.
02:37The M.2 slot can take a much faster PCIe stick.
02:41Okay, let's talk about gaming performance.
02:43It uses a Skylake 6700HQ chip and the new Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1060 chip.
02:49In moderately demanding games, like Overwatch,
02:52I'm comfortably hitting 95 frames per second on epic settings at 1080p.
02:56Something a little heavier, like Doom, we're looking at 75 frames per second on ultra settings at 1080p.
03:01I never saw it dip below 60 frames per second once.
03:04Something even more demanding, like Fallout 4,
03:06on ultra settings, I'm hovering around 60 frames per second.
03:09Something like GTA V on ultra settings, we're looking at mid to high 40s.
03:14You'll need to lower the graphics to medium-high to hit the 50, 60 frames per second.
03:18The bottom line is this, if you want to play games at 1080p,
03:21the GTX 1060 is going to give you amazing performance.
03:24It's going to run at high frame rates with beautiful visuals.
03:27Virtual reality also runs nicely on this laptop.
03:29Pascal runs VR at three times the speed of the previous generation,
03:33so the GTX 1060 handles VR comfortably.
03:36I played around with VR Funhaus and Subnautica.
03:39Both of them had a very smooth experience.
03:41It's crazy that I'm getting this kind of performance on a laptop this thin and this light.
03:46Video edits are also fast.
03:47This entire 4K video was edited and rendered on this laptop,
03:51and it's actually the fastest laptop I've used to edit a video.
03:54It's faster than 960M, 970M, faster than 980M.
03:57This thing pushes out crazy performance.
04:00The GS63 has three fans and five heat pipes.
04:03Fan noise on idle is quiet, and even under load, it's not crazy loud,
04:06but thermally, it's surprisingly well-cooled and comfortable to use
04:10because the micro-suede material and the location of the three fans keep the contact areas cool.
04:15If you want, you can use the MSI software to crank the fans to max,
04:18and the temperatures will be lower.
04:20It uses a 180-watt adapter to charge a 65-watt-hour battery.
04:24Takes around two hours to charge up from empty,
04:27and with regular use, I'm getting around three and a half, four hours of battery life.
04:30Playing games, it's closer to an hour.
04:32Okay, recap of the MSI GS63 Stealth Pro.
04:35Starts at around $1,600 US.
04:38It's an aluminum build with pretty good build quality.
04:40It has a bright 1080p screen with good color accuracy.
04:43It has a great keyboard, but a not-so-great trackpad.
04:46Inside, the Skylake i7 and the GTX 1060 deliver amazing performance
04:50with comfortable temperatures and fan noise.
04:53The 16 gigs of RAM and the two drives are upgradable,
04:56but only the two-and-a-half-inch drive is easy to access.
04:58And then there's a 65-watt-hour battery that gets you around three and a half hours of regular use.
05:03So, the MSI GS63 has a lot of good stuff going for it.
05:07It's a surprisingly powerful laptop for its size, mostly because of the GTX 1060.
05:11Pascal delivers such a big jump in performance from the previous generation.
05:15It's kind of crazy. You're getting desktop gaming performance in a laptop.
05:19It's never been done before, but it's finally here.
05:21If you want more information about Pascal or about the GTX lineup,
05:25check the link in the description below.
05:26Hope you guys liked this video. Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
05:29It's been nice. See you guys next time.
