00:00Hey, how's it going? Dave2D here. This is the MSI GT75. They call it the Titan Pro, and this is the first laptop that I've used that is a true desktop replacement.
00:13So we've seen some really powerful laptops on this channel, we've seen some really impressive ones before,
00:17but this is the first one that's been something you could actually replace a desktop with,
00:21because it has everything that a desktop would have, or at least what I would want on a desktop, but in laptop form.
00:27To understand what we're talking about, let's take a look at the insides.
00:30This thing has four drive bays. There's three M.2 slots, two being NVMe, one SATA, and then there's one 2.5 inch SATA drive.
00:37So it has lots of storage options, you get four RAM slots, so you can upgrade it up to 64 gigs of RAM, and it has a removable GPU.
00:44The CPU is soldered on, though.
00:46Now, the screen on this thing is what I would consider to be its best feature.
00:50When I say best, I mean, it's the thing that I think defines this laptop.
00:54It's a 17 inch screen, but it's a 120Hz screen with a 3ms response time.
00:59And when you use this screen, it's a very enjoyable experience.
01:02When you switch to any other laptop, either 15 or 17 inch screen, even 120Hz panels, this is the best one that I've used, literally.
01:09It's super quick, with surprisingly good color accuracy, and I think most people will really enjoy this screen.
01:13There are a couple issues with it, it's not perfect.
01:15One, I wish it was brighter, it's about 275, 280 nits, it could be brighter.
01:21But, the big thing that I think a lot of people might be concerned about is the fact that it's a TN panel.
01:25Now, I know a lot of people that watch my channel think that TN panels are the worst, and they used to be.
01:31TN panels for desktop builds and just laptops with TN panels are traditionally terrible.
01:36But the new TN panels, especially the ones that MSI have been using on their laptops, are freaking amazing.
01:41I bet you any money, 9 out of 10 people that use this screen will prefer this screen over any other laptop screen that they've used, just because of how good it looks.
01:48Really good color accuracy, really, really fast, it's just a killer screen.
01:52They're using a mechanical keyboard here, and there's a handful of laptops out there that use mechanical keyboards, but this is definitely one of the better ones.
01:58So, a lot of companies that use mechanical keyboards on their laptops, they don't feel particularly good.
02:03They feel, I mean, they feel different, they're obviously a mechanical switch, but they're not like cherry switches or anything.
02:08This is not a cherry switch, it's not like your traditional, like, regular keyboard switch.
02:13But, it feels really tactile, and it's just very consistent across the whole keyboard.
02:17So, whether you're doing work or playing games, you're probably going to enjoy this thing.
02:20There are a couple weird things.
02:22The number pad, it only has three rows instead of the regular four row.
02:25And there's this weird, like, duplicate key of this slash key, which I don't understand why they did it.
02:30It could be because they had other variants of this keyboard for other countries and stuff.
02:34But, I think this is the first time I've seen a double of the same key on an MSI keyboard.
02:40I could be wrong.
02:41Okay, trackpad.
02:42This is, well, it's better than I thought it would be.
02:45Because it's not a Windows precision touchpad, but I do like it.
02:48And the left and right mouse buttons are nice.
02:50It's dedicated buttons for each one.
02:51So, overall, good inputs with RGB lighting that you can control really extensively in their software.
02:57The port selection is good.
02:59It's a 17-inch laptop designed for gaming.
03:01So, you got five USB A's, a Thunderbolt 3.
03:03I mean, it's packed to the gills with all the ports that you would need.
03:06Alright, let's talk about the speakers.
03:08This laptop has what I believe to be the best speakers in the entire industry right now.
03:12And this is probably why I would classify this thing as a true desktop replacement.
03:16Because oftentimes, even if you have, like, a great gaming laptop, if you want good sound, you gotta get external speakers.
03:22These ones are really, really good.
03:24I'd say that they're better than the Alienware speakers, which are really good.
03:28They're definitely better than, like, the MacBook Pro speakers, which are also really good.
03:31And they're loud.
03:32Like, really clean when they're loud, too, which is nice.
03:34Now, these speakers are located on the bottom, which I don't love.
03:36I prefer my speakers facing up or front-firing.
03:39But these do really sound good.
03:40Okay, performance on this thing is excellent.
03:43This thing's running a GTX 1080 with the 7th Gen Kaby Lake processor.
03:47This thing is a performance beast.
03:49It's not a new CPU or a new GPU, so I'm not gonna dwell on the benchmarks too much.
03:53But understand this is a really strong performer.
03:55I do want to touch on its thermal performance, though.
03:57At stock settings and even on standard fan control, it's a good performer.
04:01Comfortable temperatures with basically no thermal throttling.
04:04You can get lower temperatures by cranking the fans in Dragon Center.
04:07But unless you're using a really intense application or running a really long render,
04:11it's probably unnecessary to crank up the fans.
04:13Now, there is another variant of this laptop with the 7820HK processor.
04:18And that's the overclockable unlocked CPU from Intel.
04:21And on paper, that's really cool. Overclockable CPU. Yay!
04:24But the reality is, from my experience, unless you plan on opening up your laptop,
04:29repasting the thing, like, with thermal compound and closing it back up together,
04:33it's probably not worth it to get the 7820HK over the 7700HQ.
04:38Just because the performance is not that big because of the thermal limitations.
04:43With this laptop, you can crank it up a little bit more,
04:45but for most games, you probably won't notice a difference.
04:48Now, fan noise on this laptop is surprisingly good in silent or in standard mode.
04:51And remember how I said the speakers are good?
04:53They're good enough and loud enough that for, like, most non-competitive games,
04:57you can just play this thing without headphones. Like, the speakers are that good.
05:00But the moment you crank up the fans, that no longer applies.
05:04These fans can get crazy loud.
05:05But if you run it in standard mode, the speakers are more than good enough
05:08for music or watching movies or whatever.
05:10Okay, battery life. What do you expect?
05:12It's a super thick laptop, 75 watt-hour battery.
05:15It's gonna give you around 2 hours of battery life with a screen at 250 nits.
05:19It's not particularly impressive, but considering what you have here,
05:2217-inch gaming laptop, 120Hz G-Sync panel,
05:25you're gonna be stuck with a shorter battery life.
05:27Okay, last thing. Oh, build quality.
05:29Well, it's a big laptop, so it's built well, designed to be carried around, right?
05:33So it's not gonna be made with, like, super flimsy stuff.
05:35It's got aluminum and plastic.
05:37There's very little that I would say, like, to kind of, like, warn you about
05:40if you're actually interested in purchasing this thing.
05:42One thing, though, the vent on the side, it's exhausting on the right.
05:45So if you're right-handed and you use your mouse on the right side of the laptop,
05:48if you're someone who uses the mouse, like, way up at the screen hinge,
05:51it might be an issue, but for most people, myself included,
05:53you won't even notice it at all.
05:55Overall, great laptop. I mean, it's not for everyone.
05:57It's obviously a little bit bigger than your average laptop,
06:00and it's quite expensive, but the way you see it is this.
06:02This thing is so powerful that in four to five years,
06:05the games that come out then, like the AAA titles that come out then,
06:08like Call of Duty, Black Ops, Secret, Super Mission 57,
06:12I wouldn't be surprised if those games still run really well on this laptop
06:14just because of how powerful this thing is.
06:16Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video. Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
06:19See you guys next time.
